Chapter 1108 Are You Looking Forward to the Child?

Jane returned to the Clark Manor, but Ann had not yet come back.

"Give me my usual calcium and vitamin tablets." Jane directly instructed the servant.

Seeing Jane's pale face, the servant didn't dare to say much and immediately brought the tablets over, reminding her, "Ms. Watkins, you already took them this morning. It's best to take the remaining two in the evening."

"I know," Jane said coldly.

She took two calcium tablets and two vitamin tablets and packed them in a pre-prepared transparent sealed bag.

"Ms. Watkins, are you going out again?" the servant asked.

"Yes, I left something at the hospital," Jane said. "Please ask the driver to get ready."

"Okay." The servant immediately went to make arrangements.

Jane headed straight to the lab, asking them to expedite the analysis of the medication.

The doctor came out holding the test results, his gaze falling on the pregnant Jane, his expression even more grim.

Jane had a vague idea of what was going on but waited for the doctor's confirmation.

"Take a look." the doctor handed Jane a copy of the test report.

Jane saw a series of unfamiliar scientific names on the report: tetracycline, kanamycin, streptomycin, and aspirin.

Jane, who had never studied pharmacology, looked bewildered.

The doctor invited Jane to sit in the chair opposite his desk and began to explain, "Both of these medications contain tetracycline, which inhibits fetal bone synthesis and can lead to fetal deformities. They also contain certain amounts of kanamycin and aspirin. The former can affect the fetal auditory nerve, leading to congenital deafness, and the latter can affect the development of the fetal central nervous system. These medications are highly contraindicated for pregnant women."

Even though Jane was mentally prepared, her face turned pale in an instant.

It really was. These are Ann's grandchildren. How could Ann dare?

The gates of Clark Manor were wide open, and servants and bodyguards bustled in and out as if something urgent was happening.

One of them saw Jane return and exclaimed with joy, "Ms. Watkins, you're finally back!" He turned and shouted into the house, "Mr. Clark, Ms. Watkins is back!"

Before the servant's words had even faded, a tall figure quickly walked out of the house, striding swiftly, and pulled Jane into a tight embrace.

The warmth and familiar scent enveloped Jane, and she blinked in surprise.

"Where did you go? Why didn't you answer your phone?" After a long while, Anthony finally released Jane, his hand still resting on her waist, holding her tightly as if she would disappear if he let go.

"Just went for a walk. My phone died," Jane said, clenching her hand subtly at her side.

"Why do you look so pale?" Anthony bent slightly to examine Jane.

Anthony had a vague suspicion that Jane was upset because Ann hadn't accompanied her to the prenatal checkup.

"I'm just tired." Jane had already prepared her excuse. "Why are you back so early? Weren't you supposed to return tomorrow night?"

"I was worried about you," Anthony said, touching Jane's hair and resting his forehead against hers, whispering, "I'm sorry."

Jane's heart skipped a beat. 'Could Anthony already know about the prenatal checkup results and the calcium and vitamin tablets?'

She quickly dismissed the thought. It couldn't be because of that; if it were, his reaction wouldn't be so calm.

Jane knew very well that Anthony cared more about the baby in her belly than anyone else.

"Why are you apologizing to me?" Jane asked him.

"Next time, I'll make sure to cancel my work and accompany you to the prenatal checkup. I won't leave you to anyone else, okay?" Anthony now deeply regretted trusting Ann.

'Next time? There won't be a next time, Anthony.' Jane suppressed her inner sorrow and nodded to Anthony. "I'm tired."

"Okay." Anthony understood her meaning, bent down, and carried Jane in his arms, heading towards her room.

The surrounding servants kept their heads down, as if they hadn't seen anything, not daring to discuss Anthony's affairs.

Anthony's embrace was as broad and warm as it had been back then, but everything was different now.

Only at this moment did Jane truly understand her feelings. If this child could be born healthy, there might be a future for her and Anthony. Perhaps even God thought she and Anthony shouldn't be together; otherwise, why would she have inexplicably agreed to stay at the Clark Manor?

If she had stayed at Emerald Gardens, none of this would have happened.

The servant opened the door to Jane's bedroom.

Anthony carefully placed Jane on the bed. "Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"

"Not hungry. I don't want to eat." Jane had no appetite at all and couldn't eat a thing.

She even felt nauseous at the thought of the food here.

"Alright, you can eat after you wake up." Anthony tucked Jane in and kissed her on the forehead. "I'll watch you sleep."

Jane suddenly reached out and grabbed Anthony's sleeve, her clear eyes filled with warm tears.

She asked, "Anthony, are you really looking forward to this child?"

Anthony nodded without hesitation. "Yes."

"Then, if—I'm just saying if this child isn't healthy?" Jane asked.

Anthony's previously gentle expression instantly changed. "Did the checkup show something wrong?"

"No, I just saw other people's children with problems at the hospital today. My previous checkups were all fine; how could there suddenly be an issue?"

Jane quickly found an excuse, but the hand hidden under the blanket tightly gripped the sheet, suppressing her heartache.

Anthony carefully observed her expression, seeing that she didn't seem to be lying, and slightly relaxed.

"Baby, don't overthink it. There won't be any problems. Even if there are, I will still love them and take good care of them."

Jane nodded, burying half her head in the blanket, turning her back to Anthony, and placing her hands on her swollen belly.

Warm tears trickled from the corners of her eyes, gradually soaking the pillow.

After the checkup today, she looked in the mirror.

From the outside, everything still seemed healthy.

How could that happen?

If the child really had physical and intellectual issues, how could love and care make up for those deficiencies?

They should have come into this world healthy and whole, not to suffer physical pain and the world's scorn.

Jane had always believed her child would be the best in the world.

But she hadn't protected him well.

Jane slept until the evening. When she opened her eyes, the tall and upright figure of Anthony was still in her room.

Anthony hadn't left.

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
