Chapter 909 You Shouldn't Hurt Her Heart
In normal circumstances, Lucas would definitely retort to Oliver, "You have such a sharp tongue. My sister won't be interested in you." But now, he was too tired to retort.
"Oliver, you will take good care of my sister, won't you?" Lucas looked almost desperate.
"Not for you," Oliver corrected, saying, "She is mine."
Lucas chuckled self-deprecatingly.
"And, didn't you say Susan is your sister?" Oliver's words carried a hint of mockery.
"No!" Lucas' eyes were full of disgust. "She and I only share a kinship. My sister will always be only Natalie!"
"Then why did you say those things that hurt her?" Oliver said coldly, "She was crying outside just now."
Lucas was chocked.
"Lucas, no matter what your reasons are, you shouldn't hurt her heart."
Lucas rarely lowered his head, like a child who had done something wrong. "I'm sorry."
He didn't mean to, he just didn't want Natalie to bow to Susan because of him.
Oliver saw through Lucas' thoughts, pulled a chair, and sat down. "Have you made a decision about Lilian's matter?"
"Otherwise, what can I do?" Lucas looked at the ceiling, feeling nothing but the malice of fate. "It was my fault to get her involved with me in the first place. I shouldn't have..."
He had known what his condition was like, but he still dragged Lilian down in their relationship.
"Lucas, have you forgotten what you promised me back then?" Oliver squinted, his words carrying a sharp edge. "You used to take Lilian away with you, and now you want to break up just like that?"
"I have no choice. Oliver, leukemia is blood cancer! It's cancer! Should I make my sister bow to Susan for the sake of my life?" Lucas closed his eyes."Susan doesn't even care about my life."
Oliver scrutinized him. "Since you don't consider Susan as family, then she's just a bone marrow donor. Lucas, the person you care about should be Natalie, not Susan."
Lucas wanted to say something, not quite understanding Oliver's words, yet vaguely grasping his meaning.
"I will figure out the bone marrow issue, hang on there." Oliver paused for a moment, recalling some past events. "Lucas, when Natalie was forced to marry me, we didn't have a physical relationship initially. She willingly accepted me, pleased me after you came to the Rosewood Estate in the storm."
Lucas' body stiffened sharply. He looked at Oliver in shock.
He thought, 'She did it for me...'
"Lucas, Natalie has sacrificed a lot for you. Don't let her suffer so much, only to end up with nothing in the end. Natalie can give up on you, but you can't give up on yourself."
Oliver came out of the room and saw Natalie sitting obediently on a chair.
She heard the sound, raised her eyes to look at him eargerly.
"It's settled," Oliver said initially, "He will cooperate with the treatment obediently."
Natalie breathed a sigh of relief, and her tense body finally relaxed.
"Natalie, there's no rush with Susan. We can talk to her, don't act impulsively." Oliver was afraid that Natalie would unconditionally yield to Susan in a moment of desperation.
"Natalie, promise me."
"Okay."
Oliver smiled, pinched Natalie's cheek. "Good girl."
That night, Oliver immediately sent someone to track Susan's whereabouts and contacted Samuel.
Samuel had long known that Susan was Lucas' biological sister, and he returned to the Hastings family's estate to find Susan as soon as possible.
"Samuel, you're back!" Susan pretended to be surprised, then noticed Samuel's grim expression.
"Susan, your own brother is sick. Instead of helping him, you're using it as leverage?" Samuel grabbed Susan's wrist and dragged her out. "You're coming with me to Paykston!"
"I'm not going. Grandpa, Mom, help me!" Susan resisted.
"Samuel, what are you doing. Let go of your sister!"
"Samuel, let's talk it out."
Helen and Caleb heard the commotion and immediately came to intervene.
Samuel sneered, saying, "Lucas' leukemia has relapsed, you've seen the paternity test before. Lucas and her are siblings! Now she's not helping her own brother, but using it to threaten Natalie!"
"Did I do anything wrong? Lucas never treated me as a sister, so why should I treat him as a brother! If I don't take this opportunity to negotiate with Natalie, am I supposed to carry this stigma for a lifetime and bring shame to the family?"
Susan tearfully looked at Samuel, "Samuel, you only see Natalie in your eyes, not me, not our Hastings family!"
Susan knew very well how to manipulate Caleb and Helen.
Caleb had kept her around for the purpose of a marriage alliance. If she could use this opportunity to start anew, it would be a great benefit to the Hastings family, ensuring that no one would mention a family member who had been into prison.
As for Helen, she had deep-rooted biases against Natalie, especially when she saw Samuel and her husband leaning towards Natalie.
Helen and Caleb immediately sided with Susan.
"Samuel, Susan is right. we're not heartless. But Natalie and Oliver must show some sincerity, do they think it's so easy to save Lucas' life? There's no such easy thing in this world!" Caleb said.
"Grandpa, it's a life, not a business deal!"
"That life is not related to Hastings family!"
Suddenly, Samuel felt that even standing here, the air was stagnant, making him not even want to look at this place and the people here.
The profit-seeking grandfather, the mother who couldn't distinguish right from wrong, and a malignant tumor, Susan, that had been nurtured for over a decade!
Lucas' original attending doctor arrived at the hospital, receiving detailed information from the current attending doctor, and redefined the treatment plan.
"You better convince the bone marrow donor within a month. The patient's body will need about a month and a half to recover to its best condition."
The attending doctor informed Natalie and Oliver of the relevant information and arrangements.
There was more time than expected, so they could also negotiate with Susan.
Samuel rushed from Tycoon City to Paykston overnight, feeling unusually irritable.
"A bunch of lunatics!" Samuel said indignantly, "I originally planned to forcibly bring Susan, but Grandpa actually contacted a security company to protect Susan in advance. He's gone senile!"
