Chapter 713 Miss Watson is Pregnant
"Innes, you’re being too serious," Natalie responded with a smile, though there was no trace of amusement in her eyes.
The smile on Natalie's face made Innes even more uncertain. He had never met Simon in person, but he had seen clips of Simon on television shows, and Natalie's smile reminded him of the one he had seen in those clips. The smile was perfunctory, or to put it more bluntly, it felt insincere. Her eyes betrayed indifference and coldness.
"Natalie! Are you going to tell Simon about this?" Innes asked, his voice betraying his fear of Oliver.
"You’ve not done anything to me, so I won’t say anything to him,” Natalie replied, preferring not to escalate the situation, "I hope we can have a pleasant collaboration."
Cocker looked at Natalie and covertly gave the latter a thumbs-up. Then, as they walked to meet a few eager contestants, she whispered, “Your husband is really useful.”
‘Useful?’
Upon reflection, she could not resist saying, "Cocker, I think you’re too reckless."
Cocker laughed but did not refute her observation. She enjoyed the thrill of it. She preferred that to a boring but safe life.
Natalie looked at Cocker calmly and asked, “Is it okay to be so reckless? Don’t forget what happened yesterday. Oliver heard every word you said.”
“It’s fine,” Cocker said fearlessly, “He has always been decisive in his actions. If he wanted to deal with me, I would’ve surely received a call from the company by now.”
In other words, she had passed the critical point safely.
Natalie was unsure whether she should commend Cocker for his astuteness and composure.
"Thank you, ma'am, for your intervention. I’ll certainly dedicate myself to earning money for you!" Cocker said happily.
"You talk too much!" Natalie could not help but let out a laugh.
…
On the other side, Innes heaved a sigh of relief.
Nora clenched her fists tightly as she gritted her teeth. There was nowhere for her to vent her anger.
"Nora, are you aware of the relationship between Natalie and Simon?" Melvin asked when he noticed Nora’s abnormal expression.
"Yes."
The moment Nora spoke, she realized the implications of her admission. She was worried that Innes would reproach her for not informing him sooner, potentially causing him to inadvertently offend Oliver. Hence, she quickly added, "But as you all are aware, Simon has deep ties with the Norton family. With his parents no longer alive, his uncle now leads the Norton family. Given their status as elders, the Norton family wouldn’t approve of Natalie, with her current standing, marrying him."
Innes, who had been anxious earlier, gradually relaxed, nodding in agreement.
‘That makes sense…’
"A man of Simon's stature and pride reconciling with his ex-wife? He has a multitude of suitable candidates from the social elite to become Mrs. Windsor. As for his feelings toward Natalie... If I were a man, I would also want to keep my ex-wife close," Nora stated.
"You’re quite insightful," Innes commended without hesitation.
Joseph cast a glance at Innes as if Innes was a fool. He was too lazy to comment.
Melvin preferred to stay out of the discussion and found it tiresome to pay attention to Nora's words. As a photographer, he had a knack for understanding people, and Nora did not strike him as a person of good character. He had found Nora's words about Jane particularly displeasing!
Melvin's impression of Jane was formed through her works. He regarded her as immensely talented and uniquely gifted as a photographer. However, he later discovered that Jane had once been the most celebrated socialite in Paykston.
In his opinion, a woman like Nora who judged others based on their social status when her own status was only mediocre was not worth befriending.
…
Meanwhile, Casey grew increasingly suspicious of Natalie's reason for visiting the hospital for a check-up. She was aware that the person who had invited Natalie to the hospital was a doctor named Rosy May, considered a friend by Natalie. However, Rosy knew Oliver first.
Although Casey had left Roger Wild, she was still suspicious of Oliver, with Natalie's best interests at heart.
She had an intuition that something was amiss. Upon returning to her room, she borrowed a computer and began to type on the keyboard incessantly.
Hacking techniques had been a mandatory part of her education. While she was not capable of breaching top-tier security systems, accessing a medical record was still within her capability.
In no time at all, Casey penetrated the hospital's internal network, locating Natalie's name and her corresponding examination number, eventually retrieving the diagnostic report.
‘Normal. Normal. Normal.’
All the results were normal until she came across the blood HCG level, which was a weak positive.
Casey froze, overwhelmed. Despite her usual composure, she found herself at a loss for words. The revelation was difficult to process.
‘Is… Is Miss Watson pregnant?’
...
Natalie returned to the villa and stumbled upon the maid from Rosewood Estate busily moving in and out, pushing a small trolley filled with cardboard boxes.
"What are you doing?" Natalie asked, confused.
"You’re back. We’re replacing your shoes. Sir has ordered a new collection of shoes and ordered to replace everything,” the maid explained.
The shoe cabinet was situated right by the entrance hall. Upon opening it, Natalie was astonished to discover it was filled with… flat shoes?
"Are you certain... they were not delivered by mistake?" Natalie asked as she randomly selected a few pairs of shoes to inspect, and indeed, they matched her size.
"How could there be a mistake? Sir has previously purchased these for you, and he personally selected them," the maid explained, "If you have any doubts, you should call him."
‘Why is she acting so strangely and even encouraging me to call Oliver?’
Other maids giggled covertly, anticipating Natalie’s call to Oliver. They were eager to witness the affectionate exchange between the couple.
Whenever Natalie was present, Oliver’s mood brightened considerably. Clearly, Natalie was their savior.
Natalie examined the flat shoes, noting that all were recent designs from prominent brands, some crafted from premium cowhide and lambskin, custom-made by boutique studios.
"Hello."
Oliver answered Natalie’s call immediately.
"Oliver, did you replace all my shoes?" Natalie realized that perhaps she should not have phrased her words as a question.
"Hmm," Oliver offered a succinct explanation after a brief pause, "Wearing high heels regularly isn’t good for you."
Natalie was speechless for a moment. Then, she said, “No, please be more rational. You can just replace all of them, right? Have you seen anyone attending events in flat shoes? Some occasions require high heels."
"But you already own a few pairs of high heels, right?"
