Chapter 977: Are You Crazy?
"What are you talking about, Aurora?" a servant asked with an expression that clearly said, 'Are you crazy?'
Aurora ignored the servant and called out to a passing nurse, "Nurse! I want an abortion immediately! I need to do it right now!"
The Clark family's servants exchanged glances and reached a consensus. One of them immediately called Anthony and Ann, while the others tried to calm Aurora down.
…
Anthony arrived at the hospital before Ann.
Aurora was sitting on the couch, emotionally agitated. She was trying to get up and make her way to the operating room. The servants were either trying to persuade her or support her, not daring to let her leave the room but also not daring to go against her wishes. At the same time, they wondered if this struggle would cause Aurora to have a miscarriage.
"Mr. Clark, you're finally here!"
"What's going on?" Anthony stood at the door and did not enter the room to comfort Aurora.
"We're not sure. Mrs. Clark and Hubert were here earlier. Shortly after they left, Ms. Dewar started acting like this."
The servants did not know what connection Aurora's frantic state had with Hubert and Kimberly's visit, but it was likely related.
Anthony pondered for a moment before he said, "Alright."
"And Ms. Dewar..."
"Keep an eye on her. This child must be born safely."
"Yes, sir."
Anthony walked into the room, his knuckles rapping on the table twice with a crisp sound.
Aurora, in the midst of her hysterics, suddenly saw the face she had been longing for. Tears streaked her face. For a moment, she did not know how to react, looking both pitiful and ridiculous.
"Anthony."
Remembering the origin of the child in her belly, Aurora instinctively tensed up at the sight of him.
Anthony leaned lazily against the table before he asked icily, "What's all this fuss about?"
Aurora opened her mouth, unsure of how to start but knowing she had to speak. However, in front of Anthony, she lost all the confidence and arrogance she had when dealing with the servants and ordinary medical staff. Finally, she said in a negotiating tone, "Anthony, I don't want to have this baby. Is that okay?"
Anthony looked at Aurora as if she were crazy.
Aurora lowered her gaze. She was in immense pain at this moment
Anthony regarded Aurora with curiosity and asked, "Weren't you the one who insisted on having this baby in the first place?"
'She wanted to have the baby then. So why not now?'
When Aurora first discovered she was pregnant, Anthony had suggested it might be best to terminate the pregnancy. However, Aurora had vehemently refused, saying that the child was innocent. Only she knew her true motives.
She had hoped to use the child to secure her position as Anthony's wife. An engagement and the title of fiancée had not provided her with the sense of security she craved. But who could have imagined that this child was not Anthony's?
Given another chance, Aurora would undoubtedly choose to end the pregnancy without a second thought.
"I'm scared now. I'm afraid of giving birth! I've heard it's extremely painful," Aurora quickly found a plausible excuse and said, "Anthony, I'm still young. We can still have other children in the future. I can give birth to three or four if you want!"
Anthony smiled knowingly and said, "I only want the one you're carrying now."
Aurora bit her lip, remaining silent as her fingers tightly clutched the fabric over her belly. Her expression was one of extreme distress.
At this time, the sound of familiar high-heeled footsteps echoed from outside the door.
"My mother is here. If you can convince her, I'll arrange for the abortion," Anthony said as Ann's anxious voice came from outside.
"Aurora, what are you doing?"
Ann rushed in, holding Aurora's hand and comforting her.
Seeing Ann arrive, Anthony did not greet her and turned to leave.
Ann only realized he had left when she wanted to speak to him.
"Where's Anthony?" Ann inquired of the servant.
The servant replied, "Mr. Clark left over ten minutes ago."
Ann sighed in frustration.
'How did I end up with such a son? His fiancée is planning to abort the child, and he just left! How heartless!'
"Aurora, don't do anything foolish. If you have any concerns, talk to me. Like you said, the child is innocent. You can't take it out on the child, right?" Ann asked.
"It's not Anthony's fault." Aurora wept. She could not reveal to anyone that the baby in her belly was not Anthony's.
Everyone knew that Aurora was Anthony's fiancée and that she was pregnant with the Clark family's future heir. If it came out that the baby was actually Hubert's, what would that make her? She would be completely ruined.
Ann continued to persuade Aurora, saying, "Although Anthony has done something to upset you, things will change once the baby is born. Men are different after becoming fathers. Let me be blunt—this child is a woman's leverage. Once you have the baby, you'll have a better hold over him. You've seen how our social circle works. Anthony will treat you well in the future."
Many women who married into high society had to watch their husbands have affairs with various women. These wives often overlooked their husbands' infidelities as long as they bore children, securing their positions as the legal wife.
Aurora thought in despair, 'My situation is different!'
The baby in her belly was not Anthony's. The child would not bind Anthony to her; it was a potential weapon that could destroy her!
Despite Aurora's pleas, Ann was resolute in preventing the abortion.
…
Since Anthony held shares in this private hospital, he had instructed the medical staff to keep a vigilant eye on Aurora and prevent any 'foolish' actions on her part.
With no other options, Aurora called her friend Linda for help and advice.
However, as soon as Aurora broached the topic of abortion, Linda scolded her, "Aurora, have you lost your mind? There are only two months left! You need to carry this baby to term! Don't even think about an abortion!"
Aurora wept in agony, not understanding what she had done wrong to deserve this.
'Why did fate play such a cruel joke on me?'
'Hubert! This is all Hubert's fault!'
…
Meanwhile, Jane seemed indifferent to Aurora's wish for an abortion on the surface, but internally, she was not as indifferent as she seemed.
'Aurora had cherished the baby in her belly so much before. So why the sudden change?'
'A seven-month-old fetus is already formed with fully developed organs, highly differentiated neurons, and even simple reactions. It might already have its own thoughts. How can Aurora be so heartless?'
