Chapter 1094 Baby, Let Me Hold You for A While

"These days, I have indeed been at the Clark Manor with my mother. Delilah was invited by my mother."
The implication was that Delilah had nothing to do with Anthony.

Jane was calm upon hearing this response; it was what she had expected. She closed her eyes as if in thought or perhaps trying to control some emotion. After a long while, she opened them again.

"Anthony." Jane's hand gripped the blanket. "I don't care much about how others judge me. My reputation has never been good anyway. But my child is innocent. You wanted him. I don't want him to be born with the label of a mistress's child. Whether you have a girlfriend or not makes a difference for the child. Do you understand?"

If Anthony were absolutely single, people would only say Jane failed to marry him by having his child, or that she was scheming. But if Anthony had a girlfriend, and Jane still had his child, people would say, "Look at that kid, Jane seduced Anthony to have him, and Anthony had a girlfriend at the time. How could that kid be any good?"

"Anthony, does Delilah know I'm pregnant?" Jane's eyes were as cold as the water at midnight.

Anthony felt a bit irritated. He had been dealing with Ann these days, and now he had to face Jane's tantrums. He sighed and said patiently, "How would I know?"

He hadn't even seen Delilah! Delilah had indeed been going to the Clark Manor often these days, but Anthony hadn't met her. She was sensible enough not to approach him.

"Sweetie, it's late. How about we go to sleep?" Anthony's hand cupped the back of Jane's neck and gave it a gentle rub. "I'll stay with you."

He knew she still had the habit of having a servant watch over her before bed. Anthony had specifically asked the doctor, who said it was normal due to hormonal changes during pregnancy making women more emotional.
"Can you promise that you won't have anything to do with Delilah before I give birth?" Jane stubbornly looked at him, wanting a promise.
She couldn't give this child the best status and birthright, but she wanted to minimize the trouble as much as possible.
Jane had to admit, Anthony was very smart. He had calculated that she would care more and more about this child, and not be as cold and heartless as she was at the beginning.
"I won't." Anthony said without hesitation.
Not now, not ever.
The engagement with Aurora had been because of Ann's plan and Jovan's issues piling up, leaving him no chance to deal with it.
This time, it wouldn't happen.
No one but Jane would become his fiancée.
"Remember what you said." Jane knew from his demeanor that she wouldn't get anything more out of him. She shrank back under the blanket, turned her back to Anthony, and went to sleep.
A minute later, Jane suddenly felt the bed sink behind her. A warm body pressed against her, carrying Anthony's unique scent with a faint hint of eucalyptus.
Eucalyptus was Jane's favorite. When she was young, she had given Anthony a bottle of men's cologne with a eucalyptus base note. Since then, Anthony always had that scent on him.

"What are you doing?" Jane was startled and instinctively moved forward, but before she could, Anthony's strong arm wrapped around her waist.
Anthony buried his face in her neck, took a deep breath, and then relaxed.
"Sweetie, let me hold you for a while." His voice was tinged with fatigue.
"Are you crazy?" Jane's body was stiff. Since becoming pregnant, she had never shared a bed with Anthony like this.
She elbowed Anthony behind her. "Get off! Go sleep in your own bed!"
Anthony responded with a perfunctory "Mm," and then there was no more movement. Even his breathing became slow and steady.
Jane carefully turned her head. Anthony's eyes were closed, his brows slightly furrowed, and his usually stern face showed a rare trace of exhaustion.
Jane was slightly stunned.
He had actually fallen asleep?
On second thought, Anthony had been running between the Clark Manor and Emerald Gardens these days, while also handling company matters. He was indeed tired. He had come to Emerald Gardens in the middle of the night.
She looked at his face and had a momentary urge to reach out and touch it.
As soon as she moved her hand, Anthony grabbed it.
Half-asleep, Anthony pulled Jane tightly into his arms, his brows furrowed. Jane noticed that when his hand touched her pregnant belly, his brows furrowed even more, and he touched it several times, as if wondering what this protrusion was.
Jane was furious. Was he disgusted by the baby?
Was he disgusted by the baby?

How could he, how could he do this?
This child was clearly what Anthony insisted on having. He had even said he would treat the child well!
In the middle of the night, Jane couldn't sleep. Staring at the ceiling, she suddenly felt a bit worried.
When she woke up the next morning, the spot beside her was already empty, with only a barely noticeable warmth left. The faint scent of eucalyptus in the air reminded Jane that last night's shared bed was not a dream.
Jane was disgusted by running into Aurora during her walk yesterday, so she didn't want to go out today.
In the afternoon, she sat on the couch watching TV, and coincidentally, the scene on the show was about a stepmother abusing her husband's son from a previous marriage.
The porcelain bowl in Jane's hand fell to the floor, spilling the nourishing soup onto the carpet.
"Ms. Watkins, are you alright?" The maid was shocked. "Are you hurt?"
"No," Jane murmured, still in a daze.
On the TV, the stepmother was mocking the son from the previous marriage, saying he was an outsider and a homewrecker. The child's father had been good to him at first, but with a stepmother came a stepfather.
Jane shivered all over. It was too terrifying!
Too terrifying!
What if Anthony became a stepfather in the future?
Delilah was a very smart person. Although she didn't seem like a petty or mean woman, people could change.
Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
