Chapter 1061 Going Home

In another room, Anthony opened his phone's photo album, which was encrypted and filled with photos of the same woman, Jane.

From the time Jane was in middle school, when he first saw her, the dazzling girl, on stage, he secretly took a picture from the crowd, though the phone's camera resolution wasn't high enough.

Later, Anthony stayed by Jane's side for many years, capturing countless moments of her life without her knowing.

There were photos of Jane holding a trophy on stage, riding a horse at full gallop, and frowning in deep thought when faced with a problem.

Jane always had a confident and radiant smile; she was the brightest star in Anthony's life.

Actually, when Jane mentioned this album today, Anthony felt a bit panicked.

Taking secret photos of someone for so many years sounded like the behavior of a peeping tom, even to Anthony himself, let alone her.

Anthony was afraid he would scare Jane.

The next day, on the way to the hospital, Anthony keenly noticed Jane's distraction.

Jane had one hand on her lower abdomen, her brows furrowed, looking deeply worried.

"Worried?" Anthony asked Jane, glancing sideways.

Jane nodded, thinking, 'Yes, worried that the baby inside might turn out to be a good-for-nothing. Whether boy or girl, if they only know how to eat, drink, and play, it would really be a disgrace to me as a mother!'

Anthony's thoughts were on a completely different track from Jane's. He thought she was worried about the check-up and reassured her. "It's just a check-up, the doctors will handle everything else. So you don't need to worry about anything bad happening."

Jane looked at Anthony in confusion for two seconds. "What are you talking about?"

"Aren't you worried about the prenatal check-up?" he asked.

Of course not.

So far, Jane hadn't felt any real sense of becoming a mother or the responsibility that came with it.

This child wasn't something Jane had wanted in the first place.

Compared to Aurora, who was an unexpected child, Jane's current baby was someone she could at least promise to care for as best as she could.

But in reality, Jane didn't know how to be a qualified mother.

"If it's not the check-up you're worried about, then what is it?" Anthony asked patiently, as if he were counseling a child.

Jane still felt a barrier between her and Anthony and didn't want to talk much with him. But the thought that the child might turn out to be a good-for-nothing was so shocking that she had to discuss it with Anthony.

"Anthony," Jane said seriously, "what if the child has a bad character? What if they only know how to spend money and cause trouble?"

Anthony looked at Jane seriously for a few seconds, then chuckled and asked meaningfully, "Jane, are you talking about yourself?"

He said, "Weren't you the one who used to spend money like crazy and cause trouble all the time?"

Back then, he was the one using the Watkins family's money to pay for Jane's expenses and clean up her messes.

"Anthony!" Jane looked at Anthony with a blank face. This guy really didn't know how to talk. "I mean someone who is completely uneducated and only knows how to eat, drink, and play!"

Anthony's usually cold eyes were filled with obvious amusement. If anyone from the Clark family saw their leader like this, they might suspect Anthony had been cursed.

Seeing that Jane seemed genuinely upset, Anthony seriously considered her hypothetical scenario.

After a while, he asked Jane, "Do you think a child who is completely uneducated and only knows how to eat, drink, and play could survive in our family?"

Jane didn't even notice Anthony's use of "our family," only thinking that it was too tragic. This child might not even live to 10 years old.

She touched her lower abdomen and said to the baby, who was still an embryo. "Baby, did you hear that? If you have a bad character, you're done for."

Anthony looked down, smiling.

This cute side of Jane was something only a very few people had seen.

Anthony was honored to be one of those few.

There weren't many prenatal check-up items in the early stages of pregnancy, and since Jane was at a high-end private hospital, there were few people and no need to wait in line. The whole process was completed quickly.

The check-up results showed that the baby was very healthy.

Jane suddenly felt that this child wasn't entirely without merit. At least for now, it was very worry-free.

Jane knew that Natalie had experienced a period of vomiting in early pregnancy and had even lost weight. Except for a few instances at the beginning, Jane had been able to eat and sleep well.

"Are we going back?" she asked as soon as she got in the car.

"We're going to the mall." Anthony reminded Jane. "To buy radiation-proof clothing."

Jane thought she could get away with it.

Anthony saw through Jane's thoughts and generously gave her a choice. "If you really want to go back, I can go pick them out for you."

"Never mind! I'll choose them myself!" Jane thought Anthony might come back with an apron that covered her hands, the kind that tied up her hands.

The maternity section of this high-end mall occupied three whole floors.

Anthony led Jane inside.

"You can take a look around and see if there's anything you want to get in advance," Anthony said to Jane. "There's an empty room on the first floor at home that can be used as a playroom for the baby in the future."

Jane stopped in her tracks.

She looked at Anthony and blinked.

She hadn't planned anything for the future with the child.

Anthony suddenly realized that this child wasn't something Jane wanted; it was just a bargaining chip he used to tie her down.

"Radiation-proof clothing is in section C ahead." Anthony changed the subject.

Jane pretended she hadn't heard that last sentence, nodded, glanced at the sign, and walked towards section C.

These radiation-proof clothes were much better looking than Jane had expected. She ended up choosing two thin vests and a jacket.

"Anything else you want to look at?" Anthony remembered that Jane used to love shopping.

Jane thought for a moment. "Is there a food court here?"

The mall guide thought Jane was asking her and was about to tell her the location of the food court when the handsome and cool Anthony beside him said, "No."

"No?" Jane was shocked.

Anthony was very certain. "No."

Jane sighed in disappointment. "Alright." She wanted a milkshake.

The guide wondered how this handsome guy could lie so smoothly.

Jane didn't have anything else she wanted to buy. She didn't plan to leave Emerald Gardens any time during this period, so there was nothing she needed to get. As for other daily necessities, she could buy them online or have the brands deliver them directly.

Jane yawned.

"Sleepy?" Anthony asked her.

She yawned again.

When Jane was sleepy, her eyes became blurry, and her cold, beautiful face showed a hint of cuteness.

Anthony couldn't help but ruffle Jane's hair on the spot, pushing the back of her head forward. "Let's go home."

When Jane heard the word "home", a strange feeling surged in her heart.

Married to an Ugly Husband? No!
