Chapter 1023 I'll take care of you
Jane listened for a bit and realized there was no unnecessary chatter and all the executives reported in the most concise manner. Anthony would only ask questions if something was unclear or problematic.
The meeting lasted an hour.
A nurse came in for rounds and was shocked to see Anthony sitting up in bed with a laptop. "Miss, how long has your boyfriend been awake? And you're already letting him use a computer?"
Jane glanced at the time. It had only been two hours since the last check. The rounds seemed a bit frequent.
"He's not my husband and I can't get any inheritance from him. If he doesn't care about his health, why should I?" Jane said, popping a candy into her mouth, looking very relaxed.
The nurse was speechless. Seeing that Anthony's hands weren't on the keyboard and that he seemed to be just looking at something, she didn't force him to rest and left after a few reminders.
The executives in the conference room were all thinking, 'Listen to how casually they talk about life and death over there. No one but Ms. Watkins from the Watkins family would dare speak like that in front of Mr. Clark.'
"Mr. Clark, are you hospitalized?" one of the executives asked.
Anthony was wearing a hospital gown, with medical equipment on both sides of the bed.
Anthony responded, "Confidential. If I find out who is blabbing, you can give up your seat."
The executives all nodded in agreement.
"Go ahead, how much more is there? Hurry up," Anthony urged.
Jane understood these business matters but wasn't interested. Then shestarted to watch a drama.
It was a comedy, with a plot that didn't follow logic but was enjoyable and perfect for passing the time.
Anthony finished the meeting two hours later.
Even though he had asked the executives to be brief, there was still a lot to cover, especially since Anthony would be recovering and away from the office for a while.
Afterthe video call ended, Anthony's face showed fatigue. He looked up,seeing Jane laughing at her phone.
"Such a small screen, aren't you worried about your eyes?"
It took Jane a couple of seconds to realize Anthony was talking to her. She said, "You're done with your meeting?"
Anthony was momentarily speechless.
Jane really hadn't listened at all, showing no interest.
Jane indeed had no interest. She could handle business matters but didn't want to. Running a small studio made her happy enough and she had no need for great wealth.
Since she had experienced a life of affluence, Jane wasn't as attached to it anymore.
"What are you watching?" Anthony asked, unable to resist as he saw Jane continue to laugh at her phone.
When Jane told him the name of the drama, Anthony's face showed a look that said, "What kind of brainless thing is this?"
"It's a drama directed by my friend. Can you not make that face?" Jane said, expressionless.
"Which friend?"
"You don't know him, a childhood friend."
"Male or female?"
Jane looked up, deliberately smiling. "Male, a year older than me. When we were kids, he even said he wanted to marry me."
Jane wasn't lying, because her childhood friend did say he wanted to marry her. His exact words were, "Jane, Jovan buys you so many treats. If I marry you, will Jovan buy me treats too?"
Jane didn't know if Jovan ever bought him treats, but she knew that after saying he wanted to marry her, Jovan beat him up and he started to call her Ms. Watkins.
Anthony sneered disdainfully, muttering, "Can he afford it?"
"I heard that," Jane said, her eyes wide. "What do you mean? Are you mocking me?"
Anthony was blunt. "Do you know how high-maintenance you are?"
"My brother gave me the means to support myself. I don't need a man to take care of me!" If it weren't for the expensive cameras, Jane wouldn't have asked Clint for that meager $7,600.
$7,600 couldn't even buy a good lens.
"Jane, you kick the covers in your sleep, have a bad temper in the morning, can't sleep on a mattress that's not the right softness, break out in rashes if you don't use silk sheets, are picky about Michelin-starred chefs, and complain if the room decor doesn't match. Tell me, are you easy to take care of?"
Jane thought,' Am I really that picky? Maybe I am.'
"Being high-maintenance has nothing to do with you," Jane said. She thought,' Jovan is willing to spoil me!'
To her surprise, Anthony said, "I'll take care of you."
Anthony thought, 'How is it not my business to take care of you?'
Jane blinked, looking a bit confused, as if she had misheard.
"What?" Anthony leaned back lazily, staring at Jane. "Have I never taken care of you, or do you think I can't afford it?"
When Anthony and Jane first started dating, he covered all the expenses. Jane initially thought Anthony was a poor bodyguard and tried to maintain her lifestyle without bruising his pride by spending too much. Later, Jovan told Jane that Anthony was wealthier than she thought and that she could spend freely.
The restaurants in Fae City didn't appeal to Jane. She had already tried all the places she wanted to go to in the past few days and had no cravings now.
During dinner, she seemed uninterested and listless.
When the doctor came in with the nurse for rounds, they saw Jane and Anthony eating their meals separately, not interacting at all.
It was strange because they didn't seem like a couple at all. The atmosphere of mutual disregard between them was colder than that of a couple who only ate together out of convenience., yet Jane and Anthony sitting together looked particularly harmonious.
Maybe it was because they looked good together.
"Rest well. If you recover well, you can be discharged in three days. After discharge, avoid long trips and overexertion," the doctor advised. Then he suddenly remembered something, saying, "No sex either. But looking at you two, it's not very likely either."
Anthony's face instantly darkened.
Jane was stunned for a moment, then started laughing.
"Yes, doctor, you have a keen eye!"
Anthony called a bodyguard to drag the doctor out, lest he couldn't resist hitting him.
Jane's smile lingered as she leisurely stared at Anthony. She felt sorry for the doctor. "The doctor wasn't wrong. Can you even have sex right now?"
Initially, Jane agreed with the doctor because she and Anthony weren't actually a couple.
But now, the meaning had changed.
It turned out that Anthony couldn't do it.
"Why don't you try and see if I can?" Anthony's poker face was quite intimidating.
"It's not like we haven't tried. I'm not interested right now."
"Try something new."
Jane saw Anthony's serious face and got curious. "What's new?"
"Try and see if I can make you unable to get out of bed."
