Chapter 276 Natalie Ignores Oliver's Cold Face
Natalie's ears turned red as she stumbled over her words, "Emily, I… I…"
"I can tell from your voice that you just woke up. No need for explanations," Emily teased, "I have experience as well, so there is nothing to be embarrassed about."
"Let’s just get down to business, okay?"
Emily refrained from teasing Natalie, and they concluded their phone call to start a video call, discussing their upcoming work schedule.
Initially, Emily had intended to have a comprehensive discussion with Natalie at the company today. However, given Natalie's need for rest, opting for a video call proved to be equally effective.
After the show, Emily's schedule was tightly packed for the next two days. She briefly went over the tasks and events with Natalie, aiming to select the ones that were most fitting and appropriate.
…
Oliver decided to take the day off from work. He woke up close to noon and spent some time cuddling with Natalie, who was still asleep, before moving to his study to attend to his work.
Liam, following Oliver's instructions, discreetly went to the study to notify him as soon as Natalie woke up.
Upon coming downstairs, Oliver noticed Natalie on the couch, engrossed in her phone. As he approached, it became apparent that she was in the midst of a conversation.
“Oliver, you’re home? Let me cook something for you,” Natalie said, surprised. She had assumed he was at work, so she did not plan to cook.
"No need," Oliver replied. He hugged her before he asked, “What are you doing?”
The staff at Rosewood Estate understood their boundaries. Whenever Oliver was present, they would discreetly withdraw to unseen areas of the estate to carry out their duties, unless Oliver required their assistance. This discretion prevented Natalie from feeling embarrassed.
"I’m chatting with Jane," Natalie responded casually, seemingly indifferent to Oliver's reluctance to hear that person's name. Continuing without pause, she shared, "No wonder Jane didn’t react when the incident occurred earlier. It turns out she was in Alaska taking photos of the aurora. There was no signal there. And she has already entered this set of photos in a competition. The results will be announced in a few days, and Jane’s confident she will win first place!"
Capturing auroras was not an easy feat. Jane had endured the harsh cold of Alaska for nearly a month, waiting to capture a satisfying set of photos.
Jane only discovered the significant changes after her return, regretting her absence from Natalie's side.
Oliver gazed at Natalie with an expressionless face. "Is Jane your daughter? You seem exceedingly happy for her!"
He had never witnessed her displaying such happiness for anyone else before.
Ignoring Oliver's cool expression, Natalie kept chatting with Jane.
Natalie: [It’s alright. It’s all in the past now. By the way, if you are so averse to cold, how did you gather the courage to go to Alaska?]
Jane: [The school covered the expenses, and it was a great opportunity to avoid Anthony.]
Natalie knew of Jane's aversion to cold, a fact Anthony was also aware of. Hence, when the school organized this activity, Anthony never imagined Jane would participate. By the time Jane made her decision, it was too late for Anthony to do anything. Jane was so determined to avoid him that she braved the extreme cold, and Anthony's pride prevented him from pursuing her any further.
…
Oliver dissuaded Natalie from cooking. He felt sorry for her after she had been through so much. Moreover, his appetite had improved.
This time, the chef prepared seafood soup, a last-minute decision upon learning of Oliver's craving. It was the only dish Oliver could stomach from the chef.
…
The following day, Natalie visited the HHY fashion company building to meet with Emily.
After deliberating, they ultimately decided to take on the cover of BAZAAR. There was another cover option available, but its typically revealing style led Natalie to decline. Her decision was not rooted in conservatism but in a belief that such exposure was unnecessary. For example, she would not refuse the chance to participate in Victoria's Secret show, which was a dream for almost every model, including herself.
Additionally, a fashion variety show named ‘Fun Challenge’ was on her agenda. Participating in a variety show signified a foray into the entertainment industry, a move Natalie originally hesitated to make. However, Cory, one of the show's producers, had previously helped Natalie, so she decided to participate out of gratitude.
A more compelling reason for Natalie's interest in ‘Fun Challenge’ was its association with Sense Fashion Academy. The academy had pledged that students who excelled on the show would be eligible for early graduation.
Natalie was in dire need of this opportunity for early graduation!
Nonetheless, excelling in a variety show would not necessarily enhance Natalie's fame. To boost her visibility and cement her status as a celebrity, the most effective strategy was to make appearances on the runway. Therefore, during this period, Emily was organizing interviews for Natalie for the Autumn/Winter Fashion Week, aiming to secure her spots on the runways of the four major fashion weeks.
As they were wrapping up their discussion, a disturbance erupted outside the office.
"Natalie, there’s a woman causing a scene in the company, looking for you!" Emily's assistant said urgently, bursting into the office.
She had yet to finish speaking when a voice rang from outside.
"Natalie, come out!"
"Natalie, I beg you to have mercy on my daughter. She’s innocent. You can’t frame her in this manner! Our family has never done anything to harm you!"
Mrs. Watson, stripped of her usual nobility and the haughtiness of a stepmother, was now in a state of disarray. Her appearance was unkempt and weary as she frantically sought Natalie within the company.
The implication from the middle-aged woman's words was that Natalie was to blame, suggesting that she might be exploiting her status as Oliver's wife to oppress others, now allegedly targeting someone's life!
The employees of HHY were abuzz with speculation.
"Madam, can you explain what happened?"
"Quick, someone get Emily!"
"Her personal matters are affecting the company. How will this affect our public image?"
"Natalie is always embroiled in controversies!"
"Is she using her position as Mrs. Windsor to bully others?"
As Natalie and Emily stepped out, the company's employees halted their discussions, their attention fixed on them, anticipating the unfolding drama.
"There's Natalie!" someone announced.
Mrs. Watson rushed toward Natalie, seizing her hand with desperation.
"Natalie, I beg you, show mercy to my daughter. She has done nothing wrong! If you release her, we’ll forget the past and not seek revenge. You can maintain your status as Mrs. Windsor, and we’ll lead our separate lives."
Emily could not help but laugh mockingly. "Your words are wrong. To those unaware, it would appear as if Natalie bullied your daughter"
Even as an outsider, Emily could not stand by idly.
‘What does she mean by ‘forgetting the past’ and ‘not seeking revenge’? Moreover, is this the attitude of asking for help?’
Now that the Watson family could no longer use Lucas to threaten her, she no longer feared them.
