Chapter 627 A Perfect Match
"No kidding! It’s fine if you pick on me; I can always ask Lilian to get Natalie to help me," Noah chimed in.
"How about a couple of rounds, Natalie?" the others asked, eager to stir things up.
Unbeknownst to them, the group's manner of addressing her evolved from 'Mrs. Windsor' to 'Miss Watson' and eventually settled on simply 'Natalie'.
It did not matter that Natalie, at the young age of 21, was younger than the rest. What was important was that Natalie was a force to be reckoned with, earning her the respect she deserved.
Natalie paused for a moment, realizing they were indeed calling her. Observing the others buzzing with excitement, and seeing Noah rise to offer his seat, she made her way over.
"I am in for two rounds," Natalie declared. "Let's hope Barrett doesn't lose his allowance for next month."
'Here she is, the woman of our nightmares!' Barrett thought. At the same time, he protested, "Why do I feel like you’re singling me out?"
She responded with a smile, "Not at all, I just know you better, and you have such an agreeable nature."
After a beat, she added playfully, “The kind that is easy to take advantage of, the kind you can push around without fear of retaliation…"
As the game progressed, Natalie's talent for cards, her skill, and her strategy left everyone in disbelief.
The rest abandoned their distractions to watch the card game, cheering every time Natalie made an impressive move.
"How long did it take you to master these skills, Natalie?" someone asked.
"She just picked it up on the fly when Oliver brought her along for some fun," Barrett grumbled, fuming as his allowance disappeared within two rounds.
The crowd erupted.
"Whoa!"
"Take me as your student, Natalie!"
"Natalie and Oliver are a power couple!"
At this time, Oliver stepped out of his room to find a group gathered around his wife in admiration. A familiar sense of pride swelled in his chest.
This was his wife, always shining, becoming the center of attention with just a stage and some space, effortlessly commanding respect and admiration from the most arrogant of hearts.
…
Susan headed back to Tycoon City and did not join the others. Left without a companion, Sharon had to sit quietly in the corner, silently marveling at the luxury of the Windsor family's private jet, while taking pride in the fact that she too had flown with the Windsors—a fact she held over many self-important heiresses in Paykston.
However, the thought of her boyfriend breaking up with her over a feud with Natalie the previous night and now socializing with the heirs without her, sparked intense jealousy and resentment toward Natalie. She missed a golden opportunity to mingle with the elite because of Natalie.
Natalie, a girl from much humbler beginnings and of questionable lineage, seemed to have all the luck in the world. Why was she able to rub shoulders with influential people? This profound sense of injustice planted a seed of resentment within Sharon that only grew deeper.
…
The Windsor's private hangar in the capital was bustling with a crowd that would captivate any finance journalist—it was a gathering of half of Paykston's elite.
Elders from various families came to pick up their children. Wealthy housewives—free from work duties—also in attendance to welcome them home.
Stepping off the plane, the young heirs were taken aback by the swarm of greeters, particularly disliking the sight of the family patriarchs and matriarchs.
Plans to hit the bars that night, made mid-flight, were ruined; they were all heading straight home for a quiet family dinner instead.
While other elders warmly greeted their children, Marjorie stood elegantly among them, clutching a limited-edition Chanel. Her demeanor was a perfect mix of poise and authority as she watched her grandson and Natalie descend.
"Grandma," Oliver called out.
Lilian followed suit, echoing Oliver and calling out, "Grandma."
Marjorie acknowledged them, feigning indifference towards Natalie while covertly observing her. She thought to herself, ‘Why isn’t this girl saying anything?’
"Mrs. Windsor, it’s been a while," Natalie said with a slight smile, presenting a small gift box, "This is a little something for you."
Marjorie glanced at the box—a perfectly square package, likely containing some specialty treats—and, with practiced haughtiness, turned her face away, clearly in a huff.
Natalie looked at Oliver, who seemed to distance himself from the situation, leaving her to handle it alone. She had purchased the gift during their return trip, despite Oliver's initial objections, considering she had just been discharged from the hospital.
"Is there something wrong with the gift, Mrs. Windsor?" Natalie inquired, mimicking Marjorie's attitude. She had interacted with Marjorie before and knew she was not usually difficult.
Marjorie snorted, "Natalie, how could you deceive me like that?"
"How did I deceive you?" Natalie was taken aback by the accusation.
"Why didn’t you tell me you’re my granddaughter-in-law? I was about to introduce you to my grandson. Are you telling me you enjoyed watching me make a fool of myself?"
"If I had revealed the truth right away, would it not have been extremely awkward?" Natalie grinned. "Besides, I was merely playing along with you."
Following that day's events, Natalie quickly understood that even if Marjorie appeared distant, she could not possibly be unaware of the kind of woman her grandson had chosen to marry.
Realizing Natalie had seen through her feigned ignorance, Marjorie felt both embarrassed and annoyed.
"I have no idea what you are talking about!" Marjorie denied, taking the gift and walking ahead.
Jamie, who was accompanying Marjorie, offered his assistance. "Ma'am, may I carry that for you?"
"No!" Marjorie protected the gift, holding it away from Jamie, and instructed him, "Tell them to come back for a meal."
Jamie was left speechless, wondering if she truly thought he would steal a box of local delicacies from her.
"The old madam suggests we head back for a meal, Mrs. Windsor," Jamie announced with a smile.
Natalie could not help but laugh exasperatedly. "Even you’re aware of it? Did you help Oliver keep it from me? Does Charles know too?”
Jamie simply nodded, still smiling.
"The boss is our livelihood; if we don’t support him, aren’t we just sabotaging ourselves?"
Natalie glared at Oliver.
"Old Madam Windsor is truly fortunate to have someone remember to buy her gifts. It doesn’t matter what it is; it’s the thought that counts," one lady complimented.
"My own daughter-in-law doesn’t have a clue at all!"
Others quickly agreed.
