Chapter 953: Apology
Jane had heard countless people feigning innocence.
"Ms. Watkins, you've misunderstood me! Are you still holding a grudge over what happened yesterday? I didn't do it on purpose," Aurora said urgently.
The servant quickly said to Jane, "Ms. Watkins, you need to apologize! You've already sent Ms. Dewar to the hospital once. Do you want it to happen again?"
The servants each said their piece, making it seem like it was Jane's fault.
Once it quieted down, Jane asked coldly, "Are you all done? Can I speak now?"
Aurora unconsciously bit her lip. She had to admit that Jane's presence was so overwhelming that Aurora felt completely crushed.
Jane said, "Aurora, first of all, if I remember correctly, Mrs. Green did receive good treatment during her pregnancy, but she was just a baby machine for the Green family. I'm shocked you'd compare yourself to her."
Aurora turned pale.
Jane looked around the room. It was spacious and elegantly decorated, with an original painting by a famous artist on the wall, indicating how valued the occupant of this room was.
"Secondly," Jane continued, "I don't think your pregnancy is that big of a deal. When Natalie was pregnant, she received even more attention. Besides the best food, clothing, and supplies, Oliver even set up a corner tower next to the main building with a full set of emergency delivery and rescue equipment. There was a helicopter on standby on the lawn at the Rosewood Estate, ready to take off whenever Natalie needed to go to the hospital."
Jane said, "Aurora, don't belittle me just because I lost the title of the top socialite. I still have my vision without the Watkins family. There are some things that can't be brought by family alone."
"Do you think I'm ridiculous and I'm showing off on purpose?" Aurora gripped the bedsheet, cursing in rage, "You've seen better, so you think the attention I get is a joke. Ms. Watkins, you once had the best reputation and resources. Now you have friends in high places. Don't use your superiority to mock me."
"I'd have to be bored to mock you," Jane said, unwilling to waste more words on someone who provoked and then shirked responsibility. "From now on, just call me Jane. When you call me Ms. Watkins, it feels like you're mocking me."
"Ms. Dewar! Please calm down!" The servant quickly set the soup aside and comforted Aurora. "Ms. Watkins, you need to apologize!"
"How dare you demand an apology from me?" Jane said, "If there's a problem, then call a doctor. If her health is so bad, she needs to go back to the hospital. Otherwise, don't let me appear in front of Aurora."
The servant was stunned by Jane's sudden imposing manner, feeling a belated sense of fear and not daring to say another word.
"I'm fine," Aurora said, clutching her stomach and forcing herself to steady her breathing.
Aurora couldn't go back to the hospital, nor could she let Jane out of her sight.
Aurora absolutely couldn't give Jane and Anthony a chance to rekindle their old flame!
Aurora had to defend her love and protect the future of her family for her son!
"Jane, how is Aurora?" Ann asked worriedly as she saw Jane coming downstairs, hoping to see a look of despair on Jane. Ann wanted Jane to see how happy and valued Aurora was by the Clark family now, so Jane wouldn't have any inappropriate thoughts about Anthony.
Jane's thoughts were completely different from Ann's. Jane spoke honestly, "She seems pretty upset with me."
Ann changed her smug expression instantly.
"You can go check on her," Jane said objectively and fairly. "But I didn't say anything excessive. On the contrary, your servants kept demanding that I should apologize. Is the Clark family's way of managing servants to let them bully guests?"
"What kind of guest are you?" Ann snapped, lifting her skirt as she headed upstairs.
Jane retorted, "If I'm not a guest, then am I the host?"
"Jane, don't even think about it!" Ann was more concerned about Aurora's condition and had no time to scold her, rushing upstairs in a hurry.
Aurora and the future grandchild were more important than teaching Jane a lesson.
Jane packed her things into her new room. By evening, Ann still hadn't come back to trouble her.
Jane wondered if Aurora was really not feeling well.
Around dinner time, Sadie came to deliver the meal, bringing a standard tray with two meat dishes and two salads.
"Sadie, is it okay to ask about Aurora’s condition?" Jane had a good impression of Sadie. Although Sadie was Ann's maid, Jane always felt that Sadie didn't seem like Ann's person.
A woman's intuition was always important, especially for Jane. Her intuition was usually spot-on, as long as it didn't involve Anthony.
On the other hand, if Sadie were loyal to Ann, it would be incredulous for Ann to both trouble Jane and have her confidante secretly be nice to her.
"Why is Ms. Watkins asking about Ms. Dewar?" Sadie didn't answer.
Jane shrugged and said, "What if she ends up in the hospital again because of me?"
Although Jane felt that what she said in the afternoon wasn't too excessive, she was stating facts.
If Aurora hadn't kept talking, Jane might have held back and kept her mouth shut.
"Pregnant women can be delicate, but can’t be fragile to that extent. If a few words can cause problems, it means there are already issues with the mother or the fetus," Sadie said. "You should know how Mrs. Windsor was during her pregnancy. Ms. Watkins, you can use her as a reference."
During pregnancy, Natalie didn't get sick and she could even walk the runway in high heels.
"Sadie, you dare to speak your mind," Jane said meaningfully.
Sadie even hinted that Aurora and the baby might be unhealthy.
Sadie seemed to miss Jane's implication and smiled. "Ms. Watkins, you're joking. I'm just stating facts."
With Sadie's words, Jane recalled and indeed felt that Aurora's pregnancy might not be very healthy. The most direct evidence was that Aurora looked not only thin but also not very spirited.
However, Jane was relieved that at least nothing happened to Aurora and the baby.
Disliking Aurora was one thing, but the baby was innocent.
Jane didn't want to interfere with someone innocent in her affairs.
Without Ann and Aurora's harassment, Jane went to bed early.
In the middle of the night, she was suddenly awakened by the sound of the sliding glass window.
When she opened her eyes, Anthony was already at the bedside.
Anthony with a tall figure looked down at Jane, seemingly not expecting her to wake up suddenly. He was momentarily surprised but quickly regained his composure.
