Chapter 1012 The Child Is Not Mine
Otis couldn't take it anymore. "Is your own daughter a master's graduate from a prestigious school and an industry elite? You are so picky. If someone met those conditions, would they come help you feed your child? Are you crazy?"
"How can you talk like that? I'm doing this for your grandson!" Linda looked at Anthony, who had been silent the whole time.
"Anthony, don't you think I have a point?"
Anthony stared at Linda coldly without being patient.
Linda instantly felt embarrassed and didn't dare to be as assertive as before.
She said softly, "I know this is a bit troublesome, but I'm doing it for the good of your son, Anthony!"
The paternity test results could come out in as fast as eight hours.
Before Anthony received the paternity test results, Aurora woke up first.
A few people entered the ward. Ann and Linda fussed over Aurora, asking if she felt uncomfortable, if she was hungry, and what she wanted to eat.
Aurora had only been conscious for a few minutes earlier and was still groggy. Now, she was coming to her senses.
Aurora looked at her flat abdomen and glanced around the room, not seeing the baby.
A hint of a smile flashed in Aurora's eyes. When she was about to breathe a sigh of relief , she heard Linda say with a smile, "Are you looking for the baby? Don't worry. The baby is fine! It's a boy, healthy and strong. He'll be out of the incubator in a few days. The baby really looks like Anthony. He'll definitely grow up to be a smart and capable handsome guy!"
Anthony mocked when he heard Linda say that the baby looked like him.
Otis pulled Linda aside. "The baby is so small, how can you tell what he looks like? Stop talking nonsense!"
"If you can't speak properly, then don't speak! If Anthony's child doesn't look like Anthony, who else would he look like? Tell me, who else?"
Otis and Linda had a brief argument.
As Aurora lay on the hospital bed, her face turned pale.
'The baby actually survived. Despite I fell, the baby didn't die or get miscarried?' Aurora thought.
Aurora was in disbelief. When she looked up in panic, she met Anthony's meaningful and mocking gaze.
Aurora felt a chill all over her body instantly.
"Aurora, are you feeling unwell? Why do you look so pale?" Ann noticed Aurora's unusual behavior and asked with concern.
"I just feel a bit cold." Aurora lowered her head, not daring to look at Anthony, her mind in a mess.
'It's over! How could this happen? Why did this happen?
'Anthony knows. He knows the baby isn't his!' Aurora thought.
Ann quickly adjusted the air conditioning to a higher temperature and covered Aurora with a blanket, muttering, "You just gave birth and can't catch a cold, as it could lead to illness. Aurora, if you need anything, just tell me. Don't hold back! You're a hero now!"
As she spoke, Ann and Linda laughed again.
"By the way, have you and your husband thought of a name for the baby?" Linda asked enthusiastically.
Ann said, "If you haven't thought of a formal name, you can at least come up with a nickname. You can't keep calling him baby or son all the time."
Aurora looked anxiously at Anthony.
Anthony glanced at his watch, thinking that the paternity test result was almost ready. He said, "Wait a bit longer, half an hour."
"Wait for what? Do you need half an hour to come up with a nickname?" Ann was very dissatisfied. She already had issues with Anthony going to look for Jane, but she couldn't express it in front of the Dewar family.
Anthony didn't say anything, leaning against the wall with his eyes closed, deep in thought.
Aurora's face grew increasingly pale. Ever since she found out the baby hadn't been miscarried, her unease had been growing stronger.
"Mr. Clark, it's here!"
The hospital room door was open. Clint knocked on the door and entered with a document without waiting for response.
Anthony took the report and glanced at it, a relieved smile flashing in his eyes.
The smile was subtle, but the highly alert Aurora noticed it. Then her heart sank to the bottom.
"Take a look." Anthony didn't say much, directly handing the document to Ann.
Ann was stunned after she noticed that it was a paternity test from the cover. When she opened it in confusion, her eyes widened in shock.
"How could this be..."
Ann looked at her son Anthony, then at her daughter-in-law Aurora. She was too shocked to speak.
Linda noticed something was wrong because Aurora, who had just given birth, showed no joy of being a new mother, only fear.
Linda snatched the document from Ann.
[The subject Anthony and Subject 59 have no biological relationship.]
"Who is 59?" Linda asked, then realized that the number seemed familiar.
Aurora closed her eyes in despair.
Otis's face turned dark. He looked at the paternity test report and then at Anthony, seeking confirmation. "If I remember correctly, 59 is the bed number of your and Aurora's son?"
Newborns in incubators were often identified by numbers, similar to how patients were identified by bed numbers.
Anthony didn't beat around the bush. "It's Aurora's son, not mine."
"Anthony, are you sure?" Ann finally managed to speak.
But she knew Anthony well. Ann had a gut feeling that it was true.
Anthony wasn't one to speak carelessly.
"No! How could this be?" Linda was agitated. "There must be a mistake. Did the nurse mix up the babies?"
'How could it not be Anthony's son?
'If it wasn't, then Aurora had given birth in vain and couldn't marry into the Clark family?' Lida thought.
"Aurora, do you want to explain, or should I?" Anthony leaned against the wall, clearly not intending to have a long conversation.
"What should I explain?" Aurora still didn't give up, pretending not to know nothing.
Anthony chuckled and signaled Clint to leave the room.
"Aurora's child has nothing to do with me. As for the child's real father, you can ask Hubert Clark. If you still don't believe it, you can have Hubert do a test." This time, Anthony uncharacteristically took the initiative to speak and even had Clint leave the room and close the door, giving the Dewar family one last bit of dignity.
Ann seemed to have suffered a heavy blow, collapsing into a chair. She siad, "Anthony, you're not lying to me?"
This kind of thing was too easy to expose. Even if there was something fishy about the paternity test, he had already mentioned Hubert. All it need take was a DNA test between Hubert and the baby .
Even without a test, it was almost certain the baby was Hubert's.
"Hubert Clark? How could it be Hubert Clark?" Linda shook her head in disbelief and said, "Anthony, you must be mistaken. Aurora has never even met Hubert!"
