Chapter 442
Susan remained hopeful, asking, "How can you be so certain that you and Natalie will endure until the end? Our meeting in the past was destined! We’re meant to be together!"
"Destined? I knew Isaac and Wyatt when I was young. Does that mean we’re destined as well?” Oliver countered.
If love was determined by who arrived first, it still would not be Susan’s turn.
Susan found herself at a loss for words.
"Susan, I hope you won’t have any inappropriate thoughts, especially about Natalie,” Oliver said as he stood to leave, "She’s my wife, and in my view, no one holds greater importance than she does."
Susan perceived the implicit message in Oliver's words: no one was more important than Natalie, including her. It was also a warning to her.
‘But why? Why must our years of emotional connection be overshadowed by Natalie, who entered our lives so suddenly?’
"Natalie is not your true love!"
Oliver chose not to prolong the discussion; conversing with someone who failed to comprehend his words was a waste of breath.
Noticing Oliver was about to leave, Susan hastily checked the time. She needed to delay him to coincide with her mother's scheme.
"Wait, don’t leave!" Susan attempted to hold Oliver's hand, but he evaded her. She stood awkwardly, clasping her hands together as she said, "Oliver, you haven’t eaten yet. Can I make something for you? I… I know you won’t meet alone anymore because of Natalie. Just… just this once, I beg you!”
"Do you know how to cook?”
Oliver had never witnessed Susan cook, except during a brief hospital recovery period. She struggled even to identify vegetables correctly.
Susan nodded. "I’ve heard you enjoy Stracciatella soup. Can I make it for you?"
Upon hearing the words ‘Stracciatella Soup’, Oliver found himself inexplicably agreeing.
The kitchen had been stocked up with ingredients since the early morning. Susan was aware Oliver had previously been so picky with food that it affected his health, but she had never bothered to learn cooking… until Natalie appeared. It was rumored that Natalie's cooking had cured Oliver. Had she known, she would have learned how to cook earlier.
Upon her return to the country, Susan began to secretly learn cooking. However, she abandoned this endeavor after being scalded twice. In the end, she only learned how to make Stracciatella soup, which Oliver had mentioned was delicious when he was recuperating.
The recipe for Stracciatella soup was simple, and Susan managed to make it in less than half an hour.
When Oliver was presented with the soup, he anticipated a dish similar to one prepared by Natalie, as his experiences had shaped his expectations of Stracciatella soup. However, although the presentation was good, the soup he was presented with was not what he had expected.
Despite lacking an appetite, Oliver ventured a spoonful. The broth, evidently the result of hours of gentle simmering, was rich in layered flavors, yet he was not satisfied. The taste was not one that he remembered.
“Is it not to your taste?” Susan asked nervously.
