Chapter 448
Barrett scoffed and said mercilessly, "Are you trying to be the next Jacob?”
Jacob’s gaming skills had become the butt of everyone's jokes.
The others wanted to add Natalie on Instagram as well. They had taken their phones out when they suddenly felt a chill in the air.
Oliver had strolled over, hands in pockets, eyeing the group around Natalie as if they were on death row.
Everyone was speechless.
“Are you done talking to Isaac and Wyatt?” Barrett asked, trying to ease the tension.
Oliver nodded. After settling the bill, he left with Natalie.
In all honesty, the people earlier were rather decent. Natalie found them amusing. All in all, she had fun.
Oliver noticed the subtle shift in her mood. Her smile stayed on her face, but it vanished as soon as they were alone. He felt suffocated.
…
The news of Natalie's injury had not spread widely, only a select few knew about it. However, she figured it could not stay under wraps for long.
What did not expect was Lucas finding out about it so quickly.
She saw Lucas waiting at the gate of Rosewood Estate.
Lucas and Oliver never really got along, but they had taken their antagonistic remarks to a new level lately. Lucas felt that Oliver had failed to take proper care of Natalie, while Oliver worried about the prospect of Lucas taking Natalie away.
Natalie, wishing to spare Lucas the worry over her matters, kept silent about her thoughts of divorce. Instead, she reminded him, "You have that check-up next Monday. I can’t be there this time, but you better not forget, you hear me? And let me know what they say."
After speaking, Natalie's concern grew about Lucas going to the hospital alone. She suggested, "Should I ask Lilian to accompany you?"
Somehow, Lucas managed to shake off Morriss Holder, who had been pestering Lilian, so she could return to her own apartment. With Natalie recovering from her injuries, Lilian was left without much to do. As such, it was logical to have her accompany Lucas.
"No!" Lucas blurted out, avoiding her gaze.
"Why not?" Natalie asked, puzzled. She said, "I thought you two got along fine."
‘Why not?’
Images of his past self—hairless, pale, and frail—flooded Lucas's mind. He did not want Lilian to see him in that state no matter what.
Nobody wants their loved ones to see them in an embarrassing state, and Lucas was no exception. Natalie was his beloved sister, and he certainly didn't want her to see him looking ill.
Fidgeting with a model on the couch, Lucas said with a lack of concern, "When have we ever gotten along? In any case, even if we get along, it doesn’t mean I want her accompanying me to the hospital. People might think she’s my girlfriend or something. Half the school already thinks that fool is my girlfriend…”
Natalie fell silent, at a loss for words. Their interaction did indeed seem somewhat like that of a couple. She asked suspiciously, "Lucas, be honest, what do you think of Lilian?"
