Chapter 995 The Bastard Man's Speech
Jovan knew the whole story the moment he woke up.
As for the chaos that year, probably only Jovan and Anthony knew the full details.
Jovan asked Jane, "You still want him?"
The way he spoke was like a bandit, which seemed to imply that if Jane wanted him he would bring him back for her.
"No." Jane didn't dare tell Jovan that Anthony had a fiancée.
Jovan nodded knowingly, "Alright then, if you want to play, just do it. If you get into trouble, I will clean up the mess for you."
'Why does this sound so intense?’'
It sounded like, "Play as you wish. If you run out of money, I will give you some. If you get into trouble, I will handle it!"
Three years had passed, and Jovan hadn't changed.
When Jane was with Anthony back then, Jovan had the same attitude. "You can play with him, sleep with him, and break up with him whenever you want. No matter the consequence, I will back you up." He often asked Jane, "Aren't you tired of Anthony yet? How about I find someone else for you?"
Jovan was always trying to make Jane a fickle woman, but he never succeeded.
Ironically, Jovan wasn't a playboy himself. Before the incident with the Watkins family, Jovan didn't even have a formal girlfriend.
Jovan and Jane didn't stay long. After chatting for a while, Jovan received a message.
"Anthony is looking for you and making quite a fuss. You should go," Jovan said. "When the time is right, I will come to get you."
"Are you deliberately placing me by Anthony's side now?" Jane asked suspiciously.
"If you don't want him as your bodyguard, I can get you another one." Anthony asked Jane very democratically, "How about Richard Foster, the one I mentioned to you..."
"No! Not Richard Foster." Jane quickly interrupted, "Jovan, can't you arrange two bodyguards for me? Or I could ask Natalie for a few from the Windsor family."
Anthony thought for a moment and said, "Oliver Windsor's bodyguards would work too."
Oliver's bodyguards were the best of the best.
Jovan looked at Jane, saying, "I thought you stay by Anthony's side because you still have some interest in him."
Jane knew Jovan was a good man, but this good man always made inappropriate remarks and exuded the aura of a scoundrel.
"No." Jane lowered her head. "I came with him this time because I heard there was news about you on the ship. Once we disembark, I'll leave him."
Jovan and Jane were in a small storage room with only had a few odds and ends, ensuring no one would come in.
Jovan and Jane opened the door and stepped out. Outside, it was quiet again, with only the faint sound of waves hitting the ship.
"Go straight to the end, turn left, and go up a flight of stairs to reach the deck," Jovan directed Jane, showing no intention of accompanying her. "Go on."
Jane reluctantly said, "Jovan, be careful."
Jovan smiled, "Don't worry, I still need to see you get married. Not only will I be fine, but I'll also earn you a hefty dowry."
Jovan understated Anthony's commotion.
When Jane reached the deck, she realized that all of the security personnel on the ship had been mobilized, and everyone was talking about her.
"That is Jane Watkins!"
Someone spotted Jane and recognized her, shouting out loud.
Jane immediately saw Anthony, who was standing in a corner with a cold expression on his face, turn his head sharply. His eyes locked onto her, and the next moment, Anthony rushed to her.
Before Jane could react, Anthony had already pulled her into his arms, his grip so tight that it made her waist hurt.
Just as Jane was about to ask what was going on, she heard someone nearby say, "Ms. Watkins, where did you go? Mr. Clark was so worried."
"Exactly, Mr. Clark went to great lengths to find you. The whole ship was looking for you," another person said, though with a hint of sarcasm. But it wasn't much of an exaggeration. Indeed, almost the entire ship was searching for Jane.
After Jane vanished from Anthony's view, he soon received a report from a hidden informant that someone was looking for Jane. This "someone" was clearly an enemy.
Since the other side already knew that Jane and Anthony had separated, it might be better for him to spread the news of Jane's disappearance, making it inconvenient for the enemy to make an open move against Jane.
The cruise organizers, in keeping with their principles of hospitality, naturally dispatched personnel to search for Jane.
"Anthony Clark, you're hurting me a bit." Jane finally came to her senses after Anthony's intense reaction.
Anthony didn't loosen his grip at all, even muttering, "Let it hurt you to death."
Jane pursed her lips in exasperation.
Guests around them, whether sincere or not, came forward to inquire about Jane's well-being, asking where she had gone and what had happened.
Jane glanced at Anthony, unsure if she could bring up the near attack.
Anthony didn't seem to care, his expression indicating that Jane could say whatever she wanted.
However, Jane was smart enough not to reveal everything. A mixture of truth and lies would make it easier for the astute guests to believe her and leave more room for speculation.
"I stepped out of the ballroom to get some fresh air and noticed someone following me halfway. I felt something was off about them, so I ran," Jane said earnestly. "They chased me. I only dared to come out after shaking them off in a small corridor on the second or third floor."
The women present showed expressions of horror upon hearing this. Several men also looked around warily.
At such a high-profile cruise event, although security checks were conducted on everyone boarding the ship, there were always ways to smuggle things on aboard.
Once people had money and power, they became more afraid of death, especially an unclear and mysterious death.
"Ms. Watkins, why were those people chasing you?"
"Yeah, Ms. Watkins, could it be that you got lost and made up a story to save face?"
Someone asked persistently.
"If I knew why they were chasing me, I probably wouldn't be standing here talking to you right now," Jane directly ignored the second foolish question.
But in truth, anyone with sharp eyes could see that when Jane first appeared on the deck, there was still panic in her eyes.
Most importantly, Jane was now barefoot and her high heels were gone.
Would Jane, who always paid attention to her demeanor and image, appear barefoot in such a significant public setting?
When Jane appeared in the ballroom, she was clearly wearing high heels. Many people had noticed because those shoes were a rare D Brand collectible, priceless and unavailable. No woman in her right mind would casually discard such a pair of shoes.
