Chapter 991 Thrown into the Sea

"You're back!" Jane, always discerning the gravity of situations, had no time to be angry with Anthony or discuss any issues of infidelity.

Jane stood up and pointed to the waiter at her feet. "It's related to the joker again."

Anthony closed the door to the suite. Jane briefly recounted what had happened and complained, "Anthony Clark, could this joker be your code name, or do you have some intimate connection with him?"

"It has nothing to do with me."

Jane's suspicions were aroused by Anthony's dismissive attitude toward the Joker.

"You know this joker, don't you? Someone I know?" 'It must be someone familiar. Otherwise, these people wouldn't repeatedly target me,' Jane thought.

"I don't know and I don't recognize him." Anthony would never tell Jane that he had discovered the joker was most likely Jovan's current alias.

Jane felt he wasn't telling the truth. But given her current relationship with Anthony, she couldn't force him to tell her, nor could she use coquettish tactics to make him compromise.

"He must have accomplices," Jane said.

Anthony responded, "For the next few days, don't wander around. Be careful."

Fearing that Jane might not listen, Anthony added, "If something happens to you on this cruise, you can expect Jovan Watkins to cry."

Jane's eyes lit up. She grabbed Anthony's hand and asked, "Do you have news about my brother? Did you find out something? How is my brother now?"

"Ms. Watkins, gender roles are clear. You should let go of the hand of a man who has a fiancée, lest you call me disgusting again."

'Anthony is something else and he could say both good and bad things!' Jane thought.

Thus, Jane sincerely asked, "Anthony, are you being sarcastic? Do you always speak in such a mocking tone?"

"What did you say?"

"I said you're sarcastic..."

"Seems like you don't want to know about Jovan Watkins anymore." Anthony released Jane.

Jane immediately changed her tone. "I said you're as impressive as ever."

Anthony pinched Jane's cheek and tugged it, just like one would with a child. "What nonsense are you spouting?"

'Why when Anthony speaks privately, he doesn't seem like the head of a prominent family but rather like a rogue?' she thought.

Jane blinked, rubbed her cheek, and took a step back, earnestly saying, "Anthony Clark, can you stop making such gestures towards me?"

Both Anthony and Jane knew that these were intimate gestures and ambiguous words.

Under normal circumstances, Anthony wouldn't easily agree to Jane's request because, in his eyes, Jane would be his sooner or later, and he had already made that clear.

But now the situation was special. Too many people were secretly watching Jane. Anthony was afraid that if he angered Jane and she threw a tantrum and ran out of his sight, something might happen. Then he would be agitated.

"Alright," Anthony reluctantly nodded.

Jane smiled with satisfaction and immediately asked eagerly, "So, do you have any news about my brother?"

Anthony didn't speak, looking at the waiter tied up on the floor.

The waiter shivered. "I won't hear anything and I won't say anything! If you think I'm in the way, you can throw me out."

"Throw you into the sea?" Anthony said.

"No, no, no!"

"A person who only provided one piece of useful information deserves to be thrown into the sea."

They had already sailed out to sea. If they threw the waiter overboard, he had no chance of survival unless a lifeboat rescued him in time.

"I know more!" the waiter immediately said.

Jane who was greatly disappointed, said coldly, "You have betrayed my kindness!"

The waiter felt too aggrieved to speak. Jane might appear to be an easy-to-manipulate vase, but she was adept at feigning vulnerability, administering injections, and using both threats and inducements.

The waiter knew that Anthony was a tough character. If he wanted to survive, he couldn't play any tricks under Anthony's watchful eye.

Anthony made a phone call, and soon someone knocked on the door. Anthony, like lifting a chick, threw the person on the floor out and had someone pry open his mouth.

"How many people have you arranged here?" Jane guessed that Anthony would have his people on the cruise for his convenience. This was standard practice for such events.

From Anthony's direct action of throwing the person out, it seemed he had arranged quite a few people and there would be a secure area for his subordinates to interrogate the disguised waiter.

"On this ship, eighty percent of the people are either ours or from other forces," Anthony said.

"On such a cruise, if a person doesn't have enough of his own people, it is easy to be harmed. Since surrounded by the sea, if a person has no assistants, he could be quietly killed without anyone knowing," Anthony said.

This was especially true for such high-stakes international events where interests were intertwined.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Jane glanced at Anthony curiously.

Anthony's gaze was deep, filled with appreciation and a hint of pride.

With his elbow resting on the back of the chair, Anthony said to Jane, "Your reconnaissance skills are not bad, not a waste of my teaching."

Jane instinctively wanted to say "Of course" but suddenly realized the latter part of Anthony's statement.

Jane's reconnaissance skills and response strategies were mostly taught by Anthony. Jovan had raised her like a princess, teaching her only various methods of self-defense. Combat skills were taught by Anthony, as well as the insidious yet effective method of injecting harmless drugs to incapacitate someone.

When Anthony was still Jane's bodyguard, he had said, "Little Ms. Watkins, someone like you needs more than just self-defense. You need to know how to counterattack. Sometimes, mental counterattacks aren't enough."

At that time, Jane had asked Anthony, "Why aren't mental counterattacks enough?"

Anthony had replied, "For instance, right now, if a grown man like me had ill intentions towards you and you couldn't take me down, you'd be at my mercy, understand?"

Upon hearing this, Jane had not been scared but had instead smiled and said, "Alright, come on, I will not resist."

Back then, Jane had been deeply infatuated with Anthony.

But at that time, Anthony had been in the midst of a plot to have the Watkins family pay for his father's and the Clark family's demise.

The suite fell into a silence.

Anthony and Jane tacitly avoided bringing up the topic again.

At eight in the evening, it was time for the ball.

Before leaving, Anthony received a call from his bodyguard. "Mr. Clark, this person says the Joker might be on the ship. The Richardson family has a big deal to discuss with the Middle East today. They want to use Ms. Watkins to threaten the Joker into giving up the benefits for the Richardson family."

"What's wrong?" Jane asked Anthony.

Although Anthony's expression hadn't changed much, Jane still caught the slight change on his face.

'It must be important news,' Jane thought.
