Chapter 305 My wife won't be happy
"Excuse me, can I..."
The young woman's face became flushed with embarrassment as she attempted to ask her question again.
"You can’t," Oliver said, interrupting her mid-sentence.
Those three words made her freeze.
Initially, Oliver's intention was to drive the young woman away with these few words. However, after catching a glimpse of Natalie, who appeared indifferent, he reconsidered and added, “My wife doesn’t like me having contact with other women. She’ll be unhappy.”
Natalie had been standing beside him without any discernible expression, but in reality, she was not very happy.
The young woman who had approached Oliver, along with her companions, were taken aback. Their eyes widened in surprise as they looked at Natalie.
Natalie herself also looked up in surprise. ‘Do I look unhappy? I didn’t say anything!’
"I apologize, Natalie. I didn’t know he’s your husband," the girl said to Natalie, a trace of fear evident in her gaze. She then asked Oliver, "Are you Oliver Windsor? I’m sorry. I didn’t recognize you."
"It’s alright. You can leave,” Natalie interjected, worried that the girl would start crying.
"Thank you, thank you so much! I truly didn’t mean any harm," the girl said before she hastily departed with her companions.
Oliver was puzzled. “Was she afraid of me?”
Natalie could not resist the urge to roll her eyes at someone’s lack of self-awareness.
‘Are you really oblivious to the rumors about your ruthlessness? Everyone knows about how you single-handedly deal with Henry, Victoria, and the entire Harrington family in a matter of days. Moreover, your voice and expression alone are enough to scare away anyone.’
"Don’t drag me into such situations in the future. I don’t want my classmates to say I’m jealous and petty," Natalie remarked.
With a hand casually placed in his pocket, Oliver regarded her calmly and said, “It seems like you’re really unhappy.”
"I’m not unhappy because of this," Natalie retorted with a sneer.
"Then, why are you unhappy?" he asked.
"I… Figure it out yourself!" Natalie trailed off, her frustration evident. If she told him she was unhappy because of his rumors with Susan, it would sound too ridiculous.
It was a fact that Oliver and Susan shared a childhood bond. It was entirely justifiable for him to offer her a lift. The reason behind his reluctance to disclose this initially was his prerogative entirely. What could she possibly do about it? He would likely think she was overreacting if he knew the truth.
Oliver pursed his lips, unhappy. He had little patience for guessing games.
Finally, Jamie arrived in a state-of-the-art Bentley.
Natalie and Oliver entered the car, taking seats at opposite ends. A neatly folded coat of Oliver's rested between them.
Oliver cast a covert glance at the coat, sensing Natalie's intention to provoke him with it. He tossed the coat aside with a wave of his hand.
Natalie did not say anything. Instead, she took out her phone and asked Lucas about his sudden visit to Rosewood Estate.
Lucas, who was in the midst of designing a weapon in his dorm room, was confused.
Lucas: [I’m at school, not Rosewood Estate.]
Once the car started moving, Oliver bowed his head, immersing himself in the emails on his iPad, disregarding Natalie. Yet, he was acutely aware of her presence, keeping her in his peripheral vision. Noticing her gaze, he took a brief moment before feigning sudden realization and looked up to ask, "What’s wrong?"
Natalie responded with a cold chuckle as she showed him the message on her phone.
Coincidentally, Lucas sent another message.
Lucas: [I heard about the rumors regarding Oliver and another woman. Perhaps I should visit Rosewood Estate to beat him up. Do you want me to bring dinner?]
"What do you have to say now, Mr. Windsor?" Natalie asked with a smirk.
Oliver maintained silence for a fleeting moment before he calmly replied, “I told Jamie to invite him over.”
Jamie, who was behind the wheel, initially appeared bewildered, but he quickly regained his composure. He understood the situation quickly and took the blame, saying, “That’s right! I was supposed to invite Lucas over, but it slipped my mind! I apologize for the oversight.”
Natalie cast a skeptical look at Jamie but decided not to delve deeper. Now that they were halfway to their destination, it was impossible to turn back.
Through the rearview mirror, Oliver looked at Jamie appreciatively.
Jamie only shook his head inwardly.
‘Love makes people foolish. Look at Oliver… Even the calmest and wisest person can’t escape the power of love…’
…
After not seeing Natalie for some time, Liam greeted her with warmth and inquired about her health.
Upon entering the house, Natalie scanned the surroundings with a puzzled expression and asked, "Where’s Lilian?"
"Lilian?" Liam echoed, his expression one of bewilderment.
Oliver discreetly cleared his throat to signal Liam.
With a swift change in demeanor, Liam smiled and said, “Oh, something came up, so she couldn’t come.”
Natalie looked at Liam speechlessly, thinking, ‘It seems like I was wrong about you…’
Then, she looked at Oliver reproachfully.
‘Does he think I’m stupid? Can’t he tell that I’ve already figured everything out at this point? He just wants me to come back and cook for him!’
Adhering to his routine, Oliver went to his room for a shower.
Natalie gritted her teeth before she went to the kitchen to cook.
…
When Oliver returned, a helper informed him of Natalie's whereabouts. His expression, which had been gloomy for days, finally eased a little. Alas, this only lasted a short while until he entered the dining room.
Each dish was far from Oliver's preference.
He knew Natalie was very familiar with his preference.
“Did you do this on purpose?” Oliver asked gloomily.
With a serene smile, Natalie openly admitted, "Yes, I noticed you were coughing slightly earlier, so I made something that will nourish you.”
For several days, Oliver had neglected proper meals, and now, he felt even more suffocated. He was about to get angry when he caught sight of Natalie across the table. Her expression was defiant; clearly, she wanted to provoke him. With this, his anger inexplicably vanished.
With a resigned sigh, Oliver seated himself and began to eat.
