Chapter 166 Natalie's pale face

The director knew the thoughts of the people present. They were worried about their competitors gaining the advantage through the outfits. He said, “This is a common occurrence in competitions. In fact, everyone’s outfits are provided by designers. Natalie’s case is a little special because the designer specifically asked for the outfits to be given to her. The designer is called Wine. Not much is known about the other party because the other party prefers to keep his or her identity hidden.”

The others had never heard of Wine before and assumed that the other party was just a relatively talented newcomer.

Hailey reexamined Natalie's three outfits, and she suddenly felt they were rather ordinary, not particularly beautiful. The initial amazement was likely due to the vivid colors.

On the runway, very few dared to use a bright red shade like this. Most outfits were average, with only a select few being good. How could an unknown designer possibly create something amazing?

Hailey sneered when she thought about that. Many competitors shared the same thoughts as her. With this, her interest in Natalie’s outfits also waned, and she shifted her attention back to her own outfits.

On the other hand, Natalie liked her three outfits and expressed her gratitude to the production team. She also hoped that the production team would convey her gratitude to the designer.

The following day, five stylists arrived early to help the ten contestants get ready.

On the other side, an 80-foot-long runway had been carefully erected.

Staff members and various people from the fashion industry also arrived one after another. Among the audience, there were also scouts hoping to discover the next big thing and members of the media.

Everything was set, awaiting the commencement of the show.

In the dressing room.

“That’s stunning!” someone exclaimed when they saw Natalie.

Instead of the fishtail gown that caught everyone’s attention yesterday, Natalie was wearing the red mini dress. The dress accentuated her hourglass figure, cinching her waist. She also wore a long, red, semi-transparent veil, which fell gracefully down her back.

Her makeup was a departure from the norm, featuring dark colors. She looked like the queen of the night.

A few makeup artists, oblivious to the brewing turmoil in the competition, lavished Natalie with praise.

“Natalie, you look amazing! With your looks, you can easily enter the entertainment industry.”

“No wonder Roger is a fan of yours! I’m also becoming a fan!”

Hailey’s expression darkened immediately when she heard these words. After a moment, she excused herself and went to the farthest corner of the dressing room before she made a call.

"Hello."

A young and cheerful voice rang from the other end of the line. However, if one listened carefully, one would be able to detect a hint of impatience and disdain.

Hailey decided to use her younger brother to her advantage, knowing that he was Natalie’s weakness. She did not beat around the bush and said nonchalantly, “Lucas, did you know that Natalie got married?”

Lucas's breath hitched, and his voice trembled with shock as he asked, "What...did you say?"

Hailey smiled with satisfaction. This was the reaction she had hoped for. Knowledge was the key to success. She feigned surprise and asked, “Lucas, you didn’t know? I assumed Natalie had told you about it. Do you remember Oliver Windsor, the man I was supposed to marry? Well, Natalie ended up marrying him instead.”

Lucas was taken aback, and he thought, 'Oliver Windsor? The man known for his bad temper, disfigured face, and short life expectancy?'

"Hailey, did you force her into it?" Lucas asked angrily.

“Well, I wouldn’t say she was forced. Dad merely joked that if she didn’t marry Oliver, he wouldn’t pay for your medical expenses. We didn’t have a choice. I was already with Adrian at that time, and someone had to marry Oliver,” Hailey said.

In other words, Hailey seduced Natalie’s boyfriend, and Natalie had to marry on her behalf.

For a brief moment, Lucas's mind turned blank, and he teetered on the brink of madness. He had always held the belief that the Watson family willingly paid for his medical expenses, and it was only now that he discovered his sister had sacrificed so much in exchange for his treatment.

Following that, a flash of memory rushed back to him. He recalled the ring her sister had worn on her neck. It was clearly a wedding ring! The expensive clothes she wore at that time were likely from Oliver as well.

From the other end of the line, Hailey heard someone shouting, "Mr. Watson! Mr. Watson, where are you going?"

Immediately after that, the call ended and only the dial tone could be heard.

Hailey's smile widened, and she could not help bursting out laughing, which sounded chilling to the ears.

It did not matter if Natalie looked stunning, had eye-catching outfits, or had a commanding stage presence. As long as something happened to Lucas, Natalie would definitely panic and leave.

"Take your places. Each of you will go on stage thrice. Following each round, there will be a guest performance. You'll only have ten minutes to change and style yourself. There are many talent scouts today. The finals are different, so you have to seize the opportunity, understand?”

Many prominent figures and veterans of the fashion industry were present today, which was a rare occurrence.

Onstage, the host declared the commencement of the show.

Natalie, who was slotted to go on stage second to last, inhaled deeply to calm her nerves. She refused to let her anxiety take hold. Although she was talented, she had never walked such a grand runway before.

As the fifth model prepared to make her entrance, a crew member suddenly rushed over and said, “Natalie, your phone has been incessantly ringing. It appears to be quite urgent. The caller’s name is just saved as ‘Doctor’.”

Natalie had saved Lucas's attending doctor as just ‘Doctor’ on her phone.

A sense of foreboding swept over Natalie, causing her face to blanch. She hurriedly answered the phone.

“Hello, what…”

Before Natalie could finish her sentence, the other party interjected, “Madam, Mr. Watson suddenly left the hospital without changing his clothes. He’s still in his hospital gown. Did he come to you?”

Natalie's heart plummeted. "What... what did you say?"

At this time, another staff member scolded impatiently, “Number 9, what are you doing? You’re about to go on stage, but you’re still on the phone! Get serious, please!”

Meanwhile, Hailey was the highlight of this round, conveniently positioned just after Natalie.
