Chapter 936 Poor Memory
Lucas took one look and immediately tried to close the door.
He didn't want to look for even a second longer, let alone say a word.
"Lucas!" Susan swiftly held the door open. While she had been living in fear in recent days, James had provided her with enough material support. She was eating well and dressing well, no longer appearing as gaunt and malnourished as before. However, her mental state was even worse than before.
The bags under her eyes were heavy and dark, and her gaze was unfocused.
"Lucas, I am your sister, your real sister. I am one of the few family members you have left in this world! Don't you recognize me?" Susan attempted to reach for Lucas's hand, but he coldly avoided her.
"Sister?" Lucas stood at the entrance, looking at Susan with contempt. "Susan, my sister is Natalie, not you. I won’t call someone sister when she watched me suffering in the hospital but did nothing."
"Lucas, I want to save you. I wished I could. I just wanted to get back what belonged to me. I would have saved you in the end! Believe me, we share the same blood! And you did get saved in the end. You have my bone marrow now."
"I won’t believe you. Get out!"
While Lucas was brought up by Natalie, he didn't inherit her good temper. Unlike Natalie, who always tried to be polite even when scolding others, Lucas wasn't naturally as courteous.
"Out!"
Before he could finish speaking, Lucas pushed Susan back and attempted to close the door.
Unexpectedly, Susan's eyes suddenly turned fierce, and she grabbed Lucas's hand, saying, "Lucas! I have no other option. If you don't help me, I have no choice but to die. You must help me, or I won't let you go!"
Lucas found it absurd and casted a meaningful glance behind Susan.
Susan felt a sudden grip on her shoulders and a firm pressure, causing her to scream in pain and release Lucas's hand.
Behind her stood two men dressed in inconspicuous casual clothing. Their appearance and attire were so ordinary that they would blend into any crowd, but their skills were top-notch.
The organization had assigned Lucas 24-hour, three-shift, and continuous bodyguard protection. Lucas had consistently declined this service as his identity was well-concealed, and he didn't require high-level protection. However, now, utilizing this to handle Susan was quite effective and could also safeguard Lilian.
"Who are you? Let go of me! Natalie and Oliver asked you to come, right?" Susan tried to resist, but the pain in her shoulder blades was so intense that it they were about to dislocate.
"Mr. Watson?" The bodyguards ignored Susan's words.
"She was breaking the room with intent to kill. Take her to the police station," Lucas declared.
"I didn't!" Susan's eyes widened in shock.
The bodyguards nodded and promptly escorted Susan away. "Mr. Watson, we will take her to the police station. The rest of the team is here. Please tell us if you ever need anything”
Lucas nodded.
Susan shivered in disbelief and asked, "Are you Lucas's people?" She turned to Lucas for confirmation, "Are they your people? Not Oliver's?"
Susan had known Oliver for a while and was familiar with his management style. His staff typically followed his instructions directly. If these bodyguards belonged to Oliver, they would only obey his commands and not treat Lucas as their boss. Lucas seemed to have significant influence.
Lucas's calm expression gave Susan a definite answer.
When Susan was taken to the police station, she was still in a daze.
"Susan, why are you here again?" The officers at the Paykston police station already knew Susan. She had been in and out of the police station and even applied for medical parole from prison, and now she was brought in again.
"She broke into people’s house and wanted to kill someone," the bodyguard said succinctly.
Natalie was informed by the police that Susan had made an attempt to harm Lucas and was arrested once again. Following the protocol, the police also informed the suspect's family while notifying the victim's family.
However, only James from the Hastings family showed up. Samuel and Caleb were absent. Helen, who had previously staunchly defended Susan, was nowhere in sight. "This is essentially what happened," the police explained the situation to Natalie and James.
Lucas's fingerprints were indeed discovered on the doorknob of Lilian's apartment. When questioned about whether she had threatened Lucas, Susan did not deny it.
“Technically, she hasn’t committed the crime although she wanted to," James explained. Additionally, Susan's threat was verbal and not physical, so if both parties could come to an understanding, the issue could be resolved with leniency. "Natalie, regarding this issue..." James started to speak, his expression indicating his desire to defend Susan.
The police, familiar with Susan's case and the Hastings family's dynamics, were puzzled. 'Mr. Hastings had always been dismissive of Susan, so why was he suddenly defending this adopted daughter? And where was Helen?'
Natalie glanced indifferently at James and then averted her eyes, showing no intention of listening to him.
But James persisted, "Natalie, Susan is your biological sister. She did make a mistake, but as her older sister, shouldn't you be more forgiving and understanding?"
"Mr. Hastings, if you have forgotten, I can book an appointment with a neurologist for you.
Natalie had made it clear that she did not consider the Hastings family as her own. James didn't even register as her father, let alone an inexplicable sister.
"Natalie!"
"Doesn't constitute a criminal offense?" Oliver's voice interrupted James's anger.
The police shook their heads at Oliver.
"What about this?" Oliver handed a file to the police.
Natalie had always thought it was one of Oliver's work documents, but it turned out to be related to Susan.
The police were shocked after reading the contents. "Susan's medical parole was a scam! She doesn't actually have a heart attack.
Oliver had long harbored suspicions about Susan's sudden heart condition. It seemed too peculiar to him that he found someone had covertly given Susan a small packet of unknown drugs, prompting him to delve deeper into the matter.
