Chapter 234 Natalie, Don't Mind Her
A subtle smile gleamed in her eyes.
Lilian astutely observed her selective cousin engaging with the three dishes in front of him—stewed chicken soup, lasagna, and pan-seared salmon. They didn't exude the same level of sophistication nor as exquisite as the other dishes.
Could it be that these seemingly unimpressive dishes held a superior taste?
It must be, otherwise how did her cousin, who struggled with an eating disorder, find such enjoyment in them?
Lilian's fork was about to reach out when Oliver knocked it away.
"Natalie made this,” Oliver said with a calm expression.
In other words, it was off-limits for her.
"But... Whatever. It doesn't seem very delicious anyway. I don't care!" Lilian was feeling down and reluctantly ate other dishes, but every time she saw her cousin pick up his fork to eat the dishes made by Natalie, her eyes involuntarily wandered over.
Who knows, maybe those dishes are truly delicious?
Lilian finally experienced the saying "the grass is greener on the other side.”
Unable to hold back, she complained to Oliver in Spanish.
"You're a grown-up, and you're still tattling?" Natalie casually retorted.
What Lilian said to Simon in Spanish earlier was, "Simon, the way you treat me, I will go back and tattle on you!"
Lilian was shocked. "You know Spanish?"
Natalie glanced at Oliver, who happened to be looking at her. Although his expressionless face showed no reaction, she could still sense his indulgent attitude toward her
So, Natalie just smiled and didn't respond to Lilian's words. Instead, she deliberately picked up the pineapple pie that Lilian had been eagerly eyeing and began to eat it.
She could speak five languages, but she was fluent only in English and French. Spanish could only be considered for basic daily communication.
Oliver picked up a piece of tender fish and placed it in Natalie's bowl.
Lilian was so infuriated that she almost had a heart attack. She travelled so far to find her cousin, and yet he was so affectionate with Natalie!
After the meal, Lilian made another excuse of needing to digest her food and started eating fruits. She just stubbornly stayed in the main building.
When Natalie and Oliver went upstairs, Lilian pulled Liam aside and asked in a hushed tone, "Uncle, I don't want to go home. Can you help me plead with my cousin?"
Liam used to be Mrs. Norton's confidant, so he was considered a part of the family. Lilian knew Mr. Liam well.
"Miss Norton, I can't make decisions in this matter, and you know the young master's temperament." Mr. Liam pointed upstairs. "If you really want to stay, it's better to talk to the Lady."
"I don't want to talk to her," Lilian pouted in defiance, but she was secretly wavering.
Natalie went upstairs and called Emily, informing her about the possibility of needing a new assistant and asking her to be prepared. After hanging up the phone, she turned around and saw Oliver standing at the entrance.
"Why did you come upstairs? Don't you need to accompany Lilian?" Natalie asked in confusion.
Although Oliver had just protected her, she could tell that they had a good relationship.
Oliver's gaze flickered and he said, "I came up to get something."
"What is it?" Natalie looked around the bedroom. "Your work files are in the study, and you haven't brought anything to the bedroom before."
Oliver let out a small "oh" and turned around to leave.
He came to see if Natalie would go upstairs and secretly cry.
He paused for a moment, maintaining a posture with his back turned to her. "Don't mind her. Natalie, I am the one you married, you only need to care about me." Without waiting for her reply, his footsteps gradually faded away from Natalie's sight.
Natalie gradually smiled. So, he didn't come here to bring anything? He came empty-handed and left empty-handed, without entering the room!
What an awkward man!
Afterwards, Natalie happily went downstairs.
Lilian was talking to Liam, who was smiling graciously while shaking his head. Lilian sighed repeatedly. "Natalie! I have something to tell you!" This attitude was not cute at all. It was completely different from the adorable Lilian from before.
Natalie was no longer angry now, but in the face of Lilian's attitude, she intentionally maintained a cold facade. She stopped and looked at her but did not speak.
Lilian swallowed her saliva, appearing domineering on the surface while the little person in her heart was already screaming like a groundhog. Why does she think Natalie looks so good now? Such a powerful queen-like temperament!
"I want to continue being your assistant!" After a long pause, Lilian finally blurted out this sentence.
Natalie smiled and said, "I'm sorry, I already called Emily to let her know that you don't like me anymore. She should be looking for a new assistant."
"What?" Lilian's petite eyebrows furrowed tightly, feeling extremely wronged. "How can you do this! I haven't..."
She didn't dislike her, she just didn't like her anymore!
Are dislike and not liking the same? No, they're not!
But she didn't want to say that she didn't dislike Natalie!
This woman was not worthy of being her sister-in-law, and she even toyed with her feelings!
Lilian's trembling eyebrows made Natalie want to laugh, but she could only laugh in her heart.
"I disagree! I have a signed contract, I am protected by the law!" Lilian shouted.
"Liam, why haven't you escorted her out yet?" Oliver walked out of the study and stood by the railing on the second floor of the courtyard, looking down.
"I'll escort Miss Norton out right away!" Liam said.
"I don't want to leave!" Lilian resorted to being difficult. Seeing a servant about to "escort" her, she came up with a clever plan and grabbed Natalie's arm, whispering, "I want to stay! Help me, I'll be your assistant!"
Natalie raised an eyebrow provocatively and deliberately said, "An assistant who doesn't like me won't work diligently by my side."
Oliver heard the words and noticed a hint of laughter in Natalie's eyes.
His little cat had turned into a fox again.
"I will do my best!" Lilian immediately said, "I am definitely someone who keeps work and personal life separate, I promise! Natalie, please let me stay?"
Lilian begged for a while, and Natalie reluctantly agreed.
Lilian jumped up and down, proudly turning to face Oliver. "Simon, she agreed!"
