Chapter 300 Lady is Ruthless

"Where is he?" Anthony asked Oliver directly. He knew Oliver well, so he did not think Oliver would lie to him about such matters.

“He’s gone,” Oliver replied expressionlessly.

Anthony’s expression darkened. ‘Why did you call me here if he’s gone?’

Anthony's gaze followed Oliver's to a balcony on the third floor.

The balcony stood out conspicuously. They were the sole residents in the building who had not come out. The empty balcony seemed to reveal something.

In the past, Natalie refrained from getting involved in Jane’s personal life, but now, she could not help but ask, “Jane, what’s going on with you and Anthony? Does he still love you? What do you plan to do?”

However, she did not dare to ask if Jane still loved Anthony.

"Love? Don’t insult love,” Jane replied with a bitter smile, “Do you know that the matriarch of the Clark family has been looking for a suitable daughter-in-law? It’s rumored that she’s got her eyes on a few candidates among the socialites. One of them is a soon-to-be Oxford graduate. How could I stand a chance against that?”

“Jane, don’t say that about yourself,” Natalie said, feeling her heart ache for her friend.

Despite Jane's tendency to skip classes and engage in mischief, she had excelled academically. Had it not been for her family's misfortune, the world's leading universities would have vied for her attendance.

Jane reassured her with a smile, saying, “Don’t worry. I’m not feeling sorry for myself. I’m simply saying that there’s no future for Anthony and me.”

Since there was no future, there was no reason for the man outside to continue pestering her.

Jane slid open the door. Her appearance with Natalie caused a stir among the onlookers. She filled a basin with water at the sink.

"Jane, don’t be impulsive!" Clint called out when he realized Jane's intention.

"Will you leave then?" Jane asked as she stared at Anthony.

Seeing no way to dissuade Jane, Clint approached Anthony, suggesting, "Let's leave this for today. It’s already late; you can talk to her another day."

Anthony's gaze remained fixed on the woman on the third floor holding the basin, his expression unreadable. However, inwardly, he thought to himself mockingly, ‘Talk? She doesn’t even want to look at me. How can we talk?’

‘Since he won’t leave, then so be it…’

Jane held the basin with both hands, raising it.

Gasps and exclamations accompanied the sound of pouring water.

“Ahhh!”

“Oh my gosh!”

“Get out of the way!”

A torrent of cold water doused Anthony, soaking him to the bone. Droplets trickled from his hair and clothes.

The bystanders, spared by the water, could not help but shudder when they saw this.

"Anthony!" Even Clint was taken aback.

Jane, setting the basin aside, asked icily, “Are you going to leave now?”

If he did not leave, she would splash him with water again.

Their love was gone, and they had no future together. There was no point in being in each other’s lives like this.

Meanwhile, Oliver raised an eyebrow slightly, feeling some sympathy for Anthony. He thought to himself, ‘Luckily, my wife has a good temper.’

As Oliver's fleeting sense of amusement dissipated, he was struck by a sobering realization. Was he in any position to watch the show now? Absolutely not.

From their vantage point below, onlookers could only see Jane splashing water on someone in the chilly embrace of winter in an imposing manner.

Only Natalie, standing close by, could see Jane trembling.

Jane's hands shook as she gripped the basin, her lips quivering.

How could Jane, who once regarded Anthony as the treasure in her heart, remain indifferent when splashing water at him in the cold of winter? She was worried and afraid that her earlier actions would hurt Anthony. The absurdity of the situation was not lost on her.

"Jane, you..." Clint attempted to intervene but was promptly cut off.

"Clint, take him away. Otherwise, there's plenty more water where that came from!" Jane interjected sharply.

Clint had only just approached Anthony when he heard a terse, "Leave me alone!"

An eerie silence enveloped the area.

‘What’s the relationship between Jane and this handsome man, who looks like a knight from the 15th century?’

Jane smiled angrily as she fiercely poured water down the balcony again.

"Leave, Anthony! To get away from you, I had to flee to the freezing climes of Alaska for more than two weeks, give up my home, and go on blind dates. What more do you want from me?” Jane asked loudly. Her voice was a mix of anger and helplessness. Overwhelmed, she sank to the ground, gripping the railing for support.

"Jane!"

Natalie rushed over, wrapping her arms around Jane. She patted Jane’s back gently and said soothingly, “It’s alright. This isn’t your fault. You were forced to do this. It’s okay. Even if he gets sick from you splashing water at him, it’s not your fault. It’s a consequence of his choice. He’s too overbearing and arrogant. It’s not your fault that the young master of the Clark family is humiliated in front of everyone. He refused to listen to you and kept pestering you.”

The quiet of the winter night enveloped them.

Anthony could hear his own breathing, his heartbeat, and most importantly, the desperate cries of Jane. In all the time he had known her, he had hardly seen her cry.

When she was bullied, she never cried; she fought back. When faced with hardship like when the Watkins family fell, she did not cry; she thought of ways to minimize the damage. When Jovan was half-dead and sent abroad, she did not cry; she stood still like a puppet at the airport. Even after the incident at the amusement park, she maintained her calm and stayed strong.

Jane was very strong, and this display of vulnerability was unprecedented. It tore a hole in Anthony’s heart. He was in so much pain that he found it difficult to breathe for a moment. He felt as though he had done something unforgivable.

After Natalie helped Jane inside, she returned to the balcony. Despite the darkness, she felt the weight of many gazes on her.

Oliver momentarily forgot the cigarette in his hand when he saw Natalie again. He was waiting for Anthony to deal with Jane, so he could speak to Natalie.

With exams looming, Natalie suggested the crowd disperse to focus on their studies. Then, her gaze lingered on the crowd below as she continued to say, “As for outsiders who intentionally caused a disturbance late at night and refused to leave, I’ll call the campus police for assistance.”

Moments before, Oliver had been hopeful for a chance to speak with Natalie.

Jamie gulped, thinking to himself, ‘Natalie can be ruthless as well…’

Natalie was puzzled by Oliver's motives. He did not say anything in the afternoon during filming. She did not expect him to show up after she scolded him on the phone.

Meanwhile, Jane emerged from the bathroom after freshening up, regaining her usual radiant appearance. Apart from her slightly red eyes, there was little indication that she had been crying just ten minutes ago.
