Chapter 814 Guarding Natalie's Ward
"Sir, there are several contracts here that need your approval," Jamie said, attempting to persuade his boss once more despite feeling uneasy.
Oliver asked directly, "Are we Party A or Party B?"
"Party A," Jamie replied. RisingKing Group had not been Party B for years.
"Why the rush?" Oliver asked before he ordered, "Don't follow me, guard her ward."
Jamie sensed there was another sentence Oliver wanted to add, 'If my wife disappears, you'll be done for.'
With a sigh, Jamie relayed Oliver’s words to Collin, complaining continuously. He finally understood why so many employees cursed Party A. There was no doubt that Oliver was really unreasonable.
…
Casey's unconventional experience gave her a heightened sense of vigilance compared to ordinary people.
When the door to the ward opened, she saw Oliver and frowned. She glanced behind Oliver but did not see Natalie. Instead, she saw Oliver closing the door.
"Mr. Windsor, what's the matter?"
Without Natalie present, Casey showed only indifference, devoid of any gentleness.
"Although your waist injury is not fatal, it requires time to heal. To fully recover, a significant amount of money is needed in the later stage, and even then, you won’t be able to return to your best condition," Oliver said, standing at the end of the bed, clearly not intending to stay long.
Natalie only knew what Oliver chose to disclose about Casey's condition. Being stabbed in the lower back was no minor issue.
Casey, who had been training since childhood, did not seem affected by Oliver's blunt assessment.
"Mr. Windsor, speak directly. There’s no need to beat around the bush with me," Casey said, suspecting he was not there to discuss her health.
"After you recover, your physical condition won’t be adequate to continue as Natalie’s bodyguard," Oliver stated flatly, "Any of my employees could easily defeat you."
"Do you want me to leave Natalie?" Casey asked warily.
"You also have a second option," Oliver said, looking down at her. He was always ruthless and cruel when it came to anyone other than Natalie. He continued, "Work for me, and I'll provide you with the best medical care so that you can still accompany Natalie."
After a beat, he added, "You should understand that it'd be easy for me to make you disappear from this country."
Casey tightly grasped the blanket, gritting her teeth. If not for her physical limitations, she would have fought this despicable man. She also knew that it would have no impact if she cursed at him, so she chose to remain silent.
"I'll give you one day to consider," Oliver said, showing his usual impatience with anyone other than Natalie. He walked away without looking back.
"Wait!"
Just as Oliver reached the door of the ward, an impatient voice called out from behind.
"I can agree to your request, but my loyalty remains with Natalie," Casey said. Although she agreed to work for Oliver, her expression remained cold, as if he were an enemy.
"Very well," Oliver replied, indifferent to her opinion of him. He knew Casey valued her commitments and would follow through.
Oliver sought Casey's promise not merely because he wanted her to work for him but primarily for his peace of mind.
Casey had initially worked for Roger, and Oliver wondered where her true loyalties lay. With her promise, however, he felt reassured that she would not constantly obstruct his efforts to care for Natalie.
When Oliver opened the door, Casey suddenly asked, "Aren't you afraid I'll tell Natalie about this?"
"You won't," he said confidently.
Casey was deeply loyal to Natalie and willing to sacrifice her life for Natalie; she would not upset Natalie by reporting issues that could be resolved otherwise.
If Casey harbored any objections or resentments toward him, she was the type to handle them privately rather than complaining to Natalie.
That kind of behavior—complaining about others—was something only children like Lilian would engage in.
…
Oliver had persuaded the Norton couple not to visit the hospital, yet committee members from Supermodel and several close friends from the fashion industry still came to visit Natalie. The former group came to apologize, while the latter visited out of concern.
To their surprise, every visitor was stopped outside the ward by a row of expressionless bodyguards, who informed them, "The madam is recovering and should not be disturbed by outsiders."
To the bodyguards, everyone was considered an outsider.
Natalie, confined to bed rest for several days, did not wish to see Oliver. Mostly, it was Lilian who kept her company.
The door to the ward was not completely closed, allowing Natalie to hear the commotion outside. She inquired about it.
"It’s the committee members from Supermodel coming to apologize," Lilian explained, harboring resentment toward the people who had nearly caused harm to Natalie and her baby.
"Natalie, Oliver said they might disturb you, and who knows, maybe some of them are here to plead for Nora and the others!"
Nora’s reputation had crumbled overnight. She had been exposed for academic fraud and bullying at school. Despite presenting herself as a gentle and elegant lady from a prominent family, in reality, she was merely the niece of a mistress and had little actual connection to the Miller Group. She had been romantically involved with multiple men but always maintained a facade of chastity and purity. Although she had been in relationships, she consistently claimed to have never had a boyfriend.
Numerous pieces of evidence had surfaced, revealing all of Nora's misdeeds, including framing, plotting, and physical assaults.
Nora's downfall had repercussions for her aunt and their entire family.
Due to Natalie's injury, Isaiah decisively severed all business ties between the Miller Group and Nora's family, weakening John's position in their power struggle. This development caused a stir in the Western European aristocratic circles.
When someone lost support and teetered on the brink of collapse, others often seized the opportunity to push them further down. Natalie had seen such scenarios unfold several times before. Regardless of the authenticity of the incident, she was aware that those who had wronged her had faced the consequences.
Rose's career had been irreparably damaged due to her actions of bribing and cheating during the finals. However, her downfall extended beyond professional ruin. Innes and Rose had a huge fight on the highway, and during their scuffle, Innes accidentally pushed Rose into the middle of the road. Just then, a car sped by, tragically crushing Rose's legs.
A model lost her legs—a fate Natalie was all too familiar with.
Natalie also suspected that Oliver had played a role in these unfortunate events.
"Lilian, Emily is not here, so you're my assistant now. Go and speak with them," Natalie instructed, feeling it was time to develop the young girl's capabilities.
"What should I say?" Lilian asked, looking puzzled.
