Chapter 628 Plastic Surgery

‘Could your daughter-in-law hold a candle to the girl I selected? Could your beloved daughter even compare to the young woman I have chosen?’ Marjorie thought to herself.

The group exchanged glances, only daring to discuss the matter after Marjorie and the others had departed.

"What’s happening with the Windsors? I don’t quite understand. Are they on the path of reconciling?"

"I’ve known Marjorie for decades, and I’ve never seen anyone speak to her in the manner that Natalie does without receiving a sharp retort. And look at how delighted she was when we complimented Natalie!"

"Indeed, Marjorie seemed unhappy on the surface while conversing with Natalie, but it was she who arrived at the airport an hour early. She was the most concerned upon hearing about Natalie's difficulties. To an outsider, it might seem as though Natalie were her own granddaughter."

After the elders expressed their opinions, they turned their attention to the younger generation, curious about their perspective on Natalie and Oliver's situation.

"Mom, I feel so ashamed for ever believing I could surpass Natalie. I was completely delusional… I’m not worthy of even being mentioned in the same sentence as her!"

One young woman said to her mother, "Mom, do you think if I had dedicated myself more from a young age, I could speak eight languages, have been a straight-A student with talents in piano, violin, guitar, and singing, all while being an excellent cook?"

Her mother responded, "Are you aware of your own brain's capacity?"

One young heir exclaimed, "Grandfather, can you believe that on the plane, Natalie won two months of Barrett's living expenses in just two rounds of cards? Goodness! Grandfather, you must teach me how to play cards! I wish to win big as well!"

The grandfather asked, "Does Barrett's father give him so little for an allowance?"

"Grandma, please persuade Sally to move on from Oliver. Honestly, she can’t compare to Natalie."

The elders were perplexed.
How did a single trip manage to completely change everyone's opinion of Natalie?

Marjorie herself took a car and only realized Oliver had followed her back when they arrived at Rosewood Estate.

"Where’s your wife?" Marjorie asked, puzzled.

"She went back."

"Back where? Rosewood Estate is here. Where else could she go?" Marjorie was confused; if she was not coming home, where else could she be?

Oliver did not wish to discuss it. Where else could she go but to her own apartment?

Natalie insisted on going back. The moment she spoke, she accused him of being a swindler. Oliver felt a pang of guilt—after all, she only wanted to return to her own apartment. He thought it was a reasonable request and reluctantly agreed.

Marjorie was so frustrated that she felt like chastising her useless grandson.

"You’re so useless. Why didn’t you bring her back when she was practically at our doorstep!"

If it were not for decades of decorum, Marjorie would have rolled her eyes and sworn on the spot.

"Why can’t you be more like your brother?"

Oliver nodded in agreement. "That is why I plan to go there soon."

Marjorie was at a loss for words.

Oliver casually proposed, "Would you like me to come with me?"

Marjorie was baffled. “Aren’t you supposed to accompany me? Don’t you understand my meaning? Are you pretending to invite me, just to withhold the chance?”

As soon as Natalie returned to her apartment, she immediately contacted Casey.

Casey had been prepared since morning, and after returning to Paykston, she stayed near Natalie's apartment. She arrived at her place promptly.

Natalie was relieved to find Casey safe.

When they shared their experiences, Natalie realized Susan had indeed been deceiving her—there was no TNT! Susan was confident that Natalie would not jeopardize Casey's safety.

Susan had bribed the logistics manager to dispatch Casey to the specified location, as there was indeed a need for extra hands at that time.

Later, after pushing Natalie into the sinkhole, still feeling uneasy, Susan regarded Casey as a significant threat. Therefore, she bribed a local hunter to shoot her with a tranquilizer, betting on the chance that if she was found, the hunter could claim he mistook Casey for an animal. However, the likelihood was that Casey would remain undiscovered, potentially succumbing to the cold night or falling victim to the nocturnal animals or venomous insects of the forest.

Unfortunately for Susan, she had not anticipated Oliver's extensive search efforts leading to Casey's discovery.

"I’m truly sorry for my oversight that resulted in you falling into Susan's trap," Casey stated with remorse, blaming himself for Natalie’s mishap, "If it had not been for me, you would not have been entangled in Susan's scheme."

"But then again, if it had not been for me, you wouldn’t have been at that event in the first place," Natalie reassured her, "Casey, there’s no use talking about ‘what ifs’.”

"By the way, I’ve already gotten the hunter to cooperate with us. He has agreed to help us expose Susan. Just let me know when you need him. Here is some information I uncovered about her."

Casey handed an envelope to Natalie.

Natalie's eyes widened in surprise as she examined the contents.

"She has undergone plastic surgery? It is impossible to tell."

Susan's appearance seemed incredibly natural; there were no obvious indications of cosmetic procedures.

Having Casey by Natalie's side at the event served two purposes: ensuring Natalie's safety and monitoring Susan for any suspicious activities.

Casey had initially hoped to gather evidence of Susan's misconduct but instead overheard a conversation between Susan and a foreign individual discussing facial alterations resulting from a slap. This lead enabled Casey to discover a wealth of secrets.

"Yes, she’d been consulting with a top-tier cosmetic surgeon abroad for years. I think she likely began undergoing procedures in high school, if not sooner."

Natalie was astonished, but the evidence lay incontrovertibly before her: photos of Susan entering private clinics, photos of her face bandaged, communication logs with the renowned surgeon, and confidential documents detailing her surgeries.

The evidence was compelling.

Susan bore a remarkable resemblance to Mrs. Helen of the Hastings family—undeniably mother and daughter. However, if Susan's appearance was the result of surgery, what did she originally look like?

"Why would she undergo plastic surgery?" Natalie inquired.

"I’m not certain yet," Casey conceded, shaking her head.

The uncertainty surrounding Susan's motives suggested that the reasons behind her surgeries were concealed more deeply, hinting at a possibly more alarming truth.

A dark shadow seemed to cast over Natalie, reminiscent of a long-entangled web of conspiracy. She had merely grazed its periphery, yet the core of the plot remained elusive.
