Chapter 1097 Love the Children, Second Only to Loving You

Anthony had just finished an important meeting at the company and saw Clint waiting for him outside.
Clint lowered his voice and said to Anthony, "Mr. Clark, Ms. Watkins has gone to the Clark Manor."
Anthony's eyes instantly sharpened, filled with hostility.
Clint quickly added, "Ms. Watkins went with Mrs. Clark willingly and even brought her luggage."
Anthony remembered Jane mentioning last night that she wanted to go to the Clark Manor to rest during her pregnancy.
She really went.
"I understand." Anthony's expression softened a bit; at least Jane wasn't forced. "Also, have Billy go to the Clark Manor to take care of her meals."
Jane had always been particular about her food and didn't like to compromise.
"Yes," Clint replied.
"What else is on the schedule for today?" Anthony turned to a secretary.

"You have two more meetings, and there are several documents from the branch office that need your signature," the secretary in charge of the schedule said.

Anthony walked briskly towards his office, saying, "Postpone the meetings."

"But Mr. Clark, those two meet—" the secretary wanted to say more.

Then Anthony's cold and forceful gaze swept over.

The secretary had no choice but to shut up and not continue.

When Anthony returned to the Clark Manor, Jane was sitting in the garden, sunbathing, her face looking both annoyed and cold.

She had her eyes closed, a dark silk scarf covering them to block the sunlight, and her hands gently resting on her rounded belly.

It wasn't until she felt the sunlight on her face being blocked that she lifted the scarf, a hint of confusion on her face.

After a few seconds, her mind cleared, and she waved at Anthony, saying rather disdainfully, "Don't block my sunlight."

Anthony chuckled but didn't move. "Why are you lying outside?"

Anthony observed Jane's expression. "Not happy?"

Jane's expression was listless, her low spirits very obvious. Not only did she not answer Anthony's question, but she also turned around, lying with her back to him.

It was clear she was refusing to communicate, even showing a hint of misplaced anger.

Anthony signaled the servants to take good care of Jane and went inside.

Ann had gone out an hour ago to play cards at another lady's house. Sadie was in the living room and, seeing Anthony return, approached him and told him in detail what had happened between Jane and Ann.

"They argued just over the baby's gender?" Anthony asked.

"Yes, nothing else," Sadie said softly. "Even if it's a granddaughter, Mrs. Clark actually likes her quite a bit."

Anthony nodded.

He didn't think Ann had a strong preference for boys over girls; otherwise, she wouldn't have been so hung up on the girl who was never born.

She wanted a grandson mainly because other people in her social circle had grandsons, and she was envious. But she liked granddaughters too.

Jane and Ann got along much better than he had expected.

Anthony walked back outside and squatted down beside Jane, speaking to her at eye level. "I called Billy to come and take care of your meals."

Jane, who had been ignoring him while lying on the lounge chair, suddenly opened her eyes, her big eyes sparkling with obvious delight.

A quick smile flashed in Anthony's eyes.

"That happy?" Anthony lightly flicked Jane's forehead with his finger. "The outside world probably doesn't know that Ms. Watkins finds joy in such simple things!"

"Not caring about food is what's really foolish," Jane said righteously. "People like you who don't love food are the ones disrespecting it."

Jane couldn't understand how someone like Anthony could be satisfied with food that was just not terrible and filling.

“I'm not completely clueless,” Anthony suddenly said.

Jane looked at him skeptically.

Anthony gently stroked Jane's cheek with his finger, feeling the smooth, jade-like texture.

His gaze was particularly deep. “Like you, a feast for the eyes. After having you, no other woman can compare.”

Why did he suddenly speak so directly?

Jane blinked, her cheeks momentarily turning red.

She pretended not to hear what he had just said and sat up from the lounge chair.

Seeing this, Anthony quickly supported her.

“Is the baby behaving?” Anthony's gaze fell on Jane's belly. His fingers twitched but ultimately didn't touch it.

He didn't have strong feelings for this child yet. Seeing Jane's rounded belly felt extremely unfamiliar to him.

In Anthony's memory, Jane's stomach had always been flat and firm, her waist slender and soft.

It was something he had once been very fond of.

Now, seeing her rounded belly, he felt it was a burden on Jane's slender waist, afraid that touching it might hurt her.

“I don't feel much,” Jane said honestly.

Fetal movement usually starts around four or five months. Jane was now over four months pregnant but didn't feel anything.

She couldn't help but ask, “Do you think this baby might be dumb?”

All of Anthony's previous emotions vanished. Only Jane could ask such a question.

“Jane, you're not even five months pregnant yet, so it's normal not to feel the baby move,” Anthony said, having specifically studied pregnancy knowledge.

"Really?" Jane was somewhat skeptical. "When Natalie was pregnant, the fetal movements were very obvious; it seemed like her child would be a smart one even then. And indeed, that's the case—Nathan is very smart, with a good brain and good looks."

Anthony thought that, for Jane, good looks were the main point.

"Jane, don't overthink it. You won't have an unattractive or unintelligent child." Anthony, not good at comforting, could only use these simple words to reassure her.

"If the baby really isn't good-looking or smart, would you still love them?" Jane looked at Anthony seriously, not missing any of his facial expressions.

If it had been three months ago, she would have thought she was crazy to worry so much about a child she didn't even want.

"I would." Anthony's gaze was so intense as he looked at Jane that it felt almost overwhelming. "Jane, you're worrying for nothing. As long as it's your child, whether boy or girl, smart or not, no matter how they look, I will love them."

He would love their child, second only to loving Jane.
