Chapter 102: Sorry, I Can't Be with You Tonight

Charlotte blushed. "I don't like you at all!" she muttered, clearing the table.

Frederick loosened his tie and rolled up his sleeves. "Don't worry about it; I'll eat this."

He was unusually agreeable tonight, so Charlotte fried some chicken wings and other snacks, even opened a bottle of red wine.

Frederick, who rarely ate such things, found them surprisingly tasty. He savored the rich flavor of the wine.

When it came to romance, Charlotte was quite forward. She hugged him from behind and leaned in for a long kiss. Frederick pulled her onto his lap, spilling half a glass of wine on the floor. Neither of them cared!

Charlotte had never been this bold, getting intimate in the dining room. When Frederick, with reddened eyes, sought her confirmation, she hesitated a bit.

Frederick coaxed her gently, "No one's home; it's fine to be in the living room once in a while."

Charlotte's face flushed, and her heart raced. She felt like she was falling.

Frederick softly called her name, "Charlotte, is this okay?"

Charlotte leaned on his shoulder, her slender arms wrapping around his waist when she nodded.

The next morning, she felt sore. On the bedside table was a white rose, still dewy from Frederick's morning run. She liked it very much.

Having traversed just two romantic entanglements, Charlotte found her time with Ethan rather tame, marked at most by a fleeting peck. Yet with Frederick, she discovered a profound wellspring of ardor.

Charlotte gently traced the white pillow, thinking, what woman wouldn't be captivated by a lover like Frederick? She knew it wasn't right, but she didn't want to change.

She lay down a bit longer, then got up to wash and tidy the flat. The dining room was spotless, but the living room sofa was tangled with their clothes. She guessed Frederick had done it on purpose. She tidied everything up.

Around noon, she sent Frederick a message, reminding him not to forget Elijah's concert that evening. Frederick called back after about half an hour, apologizing that he had a case to discuss with a client and might not be able to accompany her.

Charlotte was a bit disappointed. Frederick gently coaxed her, "Aren't you close with Lily? Invite her to go with you."

Lily? Charlotte sighed. Lily had gone to Lumina for a few days and wasn't around.

But another name popped into her head. Sophie's exceptional talent in piano playing, coupled with the fact that she was Elijah's sole student, made extending an invitation to her for his concert a worthwhile choice, ensuring that the VIP ticket wouldn't go to waste.

So, Charlotte called Sophie. Despite her youth, Sophie was a huge fan of Elijah and was overjoyed by the invitation. "Thank you, Ms. Russell."

Charlotte gently reminded Sophie to wear a dress. Sophie said, "I see, it's proper etiquette!"

Charlotte laughed softly, feeling much better. She chose a floral long dress, paired with a thin brown belt that matched her hair color, creating a very romantic look.

She took a cab to pick up Sophie. Coincidentally, Michael was at home and greeted Charlotte warmly, "Charlotte, you're here. Sophie has been waiting for you and is very excited."

Charlotte smiled. "We'll be back after the concert."

Michael made her a cup of coffee and smiled. "With you around, I have no worries! I'll have the driver take you both there."

Charlotte didn't refuse his kind offer. Sophie came bouncing down the stairs. "Ms. Russell!"

Following her was Oliver. Oliver slowly descended the stairs, his deep eyes fixed on Charlotte, and said lightly, "Dad, I'll take them there."

Michael smiled. "Okay."
