Chapter 375 Charlotte Wakes Up from Heartache (Part 1)

The music academy's anniversary bash was poppin' off in the auditorium.

Up on stage, there was this fancy Morning Dew piano.

Word on the street was Louis II had played it, and now Frederick had snagged it and gifted it to some babe. Everyone was hyped for Charlotte's performance.

The crowd was packed with familiar faces.

Bradley, Lily, Robert, Tina, and Ethan.

After Frederick threw some cash at the Cooper Group, their business started booming. Ethan, being all about his career, had finally come to terms with everything.

He brought Gabriel along to catch Charlotte's piano gig.

Tina, sitting nearby, kept sneaking glances at him. No matter how shady she was, her heart was always set on Ethan.

Ethan didn't even notice her.

Tina smirked.

No matter how much he crushed on Charlotte, so what? Once Charlotte's performance was done, it was game over!

Tina would get everything.

She lifted her chin a bit and waited.

The lights dimmed, and a figure in white strolled to the piano and sat down.

The crowd went wild with applause.

Tina clapped too, even smiled. Soon, that pretty white dress would be splattered with blood, and no one would suspect her.

The piano started playing, but it wasn't Charlotte's piece.

It was "Moonlight Lover."

The lights came up, and everyone was shocked.

It wasn't Charlotte; it was Frederick.

He was rocking a white suit, playing the piano under the crystal chandelier, looking all classy. No one knew Frederick could play like that.

Everyone was spellbound and didn't mind the switch.

Tina's face went pale.

She looked up at the chandelier's wire, which was swaying and about to snap.

She wanted to scream but couldn't.

She was terrified.

If something happened to Frederick, the Hawkins family would go nuts, and Tina would be toast!

Tina jumped up.

The chandelier started shaking.

Frederick could've dodged it, but he kept playing like nothing was wrong.

Finally, the wire snapped.

With a crash, the chandelier fell, and everyone freaked out.

The white figure stayed put.

The piano music didn't stop.

Even with blood on his forehead and suit, he didn't flinch and kept playing Charlotte's favorite tune.

Every note seemed to say, "Charlotte, come home with me!"

Amid the chaos, the auditorium doors flew open, and a beam of light shone in.

It was Charlotte.

She lifted her skirt and ran towards Frederick, tears streaming down her face. "Frederick."

Everything went silent.

Everyone and everything disappeared.

It was just her and Frederick!

Charlotte tried to reach him, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get close. She watched him sit there, covered in blood, playing "Moonlight Lover."

Charlotte's heart ached! 'Frederick, why'd you show up out of nowhere, and why won't you let me get close?'

The man in the white suit started to fade, like he could vanish any second. He stopped playing and looked at her intensely.

The piano music kept going.

Charlotte finally got close to him.

Frederick's almost transparent hand gently touched her face and whispered, "Why'd you come over?"

She burst into tears. "Frederick!"

It felt like a dream, but why did it hurt even in a dream?

"Don't cry."

He comforted her, "It doesn't hurt! Charlotte, the most important thing is that we'll still be together; trust me!"

She trembled, took forever to lift her head.

She showed him the diamond ring on her finger. "Frederick, I trust you!"

Frederick smiled faintly, even though that smile was already fading. He wanted to touch her but couldn't anymore.

He disappeared on stage.

The rose petals around them started to rise.

"Frederick!"

Twenty-year-old Charlotte cried her heart out and slowly knelt down.

Frederick, you showed up out of nowhere and vanished just as fast. Frederick, what was I supposed to do?

Was this really just a dream?

Would he come back?

"Frederick! Frederick, don't do that!"

In the best private hospital in Syeattel, Charlotte, who had been in a coma for seven days, kept murmuring. Suddenly, she opened her eyes.

Any slight movement caused nerve-wracking pain.

Seeing her wake up, Laura burst into tears of joy. "Charlotte, you finally woke up!"

Charlotte scanned the hospital room but didn't spot Frederick. She struggled to ask, "Mom, where's Frederick?"

Laura's face showed a flicker of unease.

Charlotte pressed her for an answer.

Laura gently tucked her in and spilled the beans, "Frederick went to see the astrologer!"

Charlotte was floored.

She glanced outside; the world was a blanket of white, covered in thick snow.

Charlotte's eyes filled with worry. Laura wiped her tears and said, "I'll call him right now to share the good news. Don't stress, just focus on getting better!"

She quickly dialed the phone.

It rang forever before Frederick picked up. "Mom!"

Laura started tearing up.

Holding back her emotions, she said, "Charlotte's awake."

There was a pause on the other end, then he spoke in a raspy but gentle voice, "Let me talk to Charlotte."

Laura hurriedly put the phone to Charlotte's ear.

Silence.

Neither spoke first, the pain from the dream still felt like needles.

After a long pause, Charlotte croaked, "Frederick, I had a dream!"

On the other end, Frederick's Adam's apple bobbed. He held back his emotions for a long time before saying, "I had a dream too! Charlotte, I dreamed we fell in love. It was beautiful."

Charlotte started crying.

He spoke so softly, even though he was in pain, he called it beautiful.

"Don't cry! Charlotte, don't cry," he soothed her.

Charlotte had always been reserved, rarely showing her feelings for Frederick in front of others. But now, she desperately wanted to see him, to touch him, to know he was okay.

"Frederick, I want to see you."

Frederick wanted to see her too.

But he couldn't leave now. The mountain road was blocked by snow, and his legs were frostbitten. He had knelt for most of the night and couldn't take a step now.

In a simple room, he had felt the heart-wrenching pain in his dream, but upon waking, he comforted his wife. "When the snow stops, I'll come by helicopter, okay?"

Charlotte's face was streaked with tears.

It was a dream, but she remembered it so clearly. She could guess the price he had paid.

He might not make it out.

Charlotte gently touched the phone with her delicate fingers and softly said, "I'll wait for you."

This sentence felt like it had been waiting for four years.

On the other end, Frederick slightly lifted his chin and softly responded.

He said, "Charlotte, I'll come back when the snow stops."

After hanging up, he gently touched his chest.

As Charlotte woke up, the Hawkins family was over the moon. Patrick, who had been running around for days, finally felt relieved.

He called his son to praise him.

Then, he brought the kids to see Charlotte.

As soon as the door opened, three kids ran in, and Patrick was holding Kingsley in his arms. Kingsley was over a year old and could already say, "Mommy."

Charlotte, slowly recovering, leaned against the headboard and reached out her hand.

But Patrick didn't let Kingsley go over. "Your mommy isn't feeling well, and she has a baby in her tummy. I'll hold you."

Kingsley seemed to get it.

He liked his grandpa, and his chubby little hands cupped Patrick's face and gave him a kiss.

Patrick looked at Charlotte and couldn't help but tear up.

He kept saying, "Thank God! You are awake! If you didn't wake up, Frederick would have lost it."

Charlotte smiled faintly.

Lola and Johnny went over and leaned against her.

Charlotte gently patted their little heads, especially Lola, who was looking at her mom.

Charlotte's heart melted and she called her into the bed.

Lola immediately kicked off her shoes and snuggled into the bed, carefully holding her mom's belly.

Charlotte also gently touched her belly.

She remembered in the dream, Frederick said this child would be named Sienna.

So, Sienna it was!

Johnny, beside them, touched Lola's hair, thinking she was super clingy.

He thought, 'When Lola grows up, she'll definitely be super clingy.'

Charlotte also patted his head.

Laura brought some porridge and sat by the bed, gently taking care of her. "Chloe has something to do right now; she'll come in the afternoon."

Charlotte nodded.

The room was filled with warmth, and just then, the door opened.

Charlotte looked up and was stunned.

It was Frederick.

He had lost a lot of weight, looking a bit worn out but still handsome. At this moment, his blue eyes were deeply gazing at her, with a warmth that made her blush and her heart race.
