Chapter 66 Make Some Sacrifice
Jessica beamed at the evident affection between Charlotte and Frederick, and jumped right in with joy.
Charlotte retreated to her room, pondering the attire she would bring for Frederick for the day. Due to her shyness towards her recent purchases, she opted for an ensemble frequently worn by Frederick, packing it into a bag before hailing a cab to Wise Counsel Law Firm.
Mindful not to intrude on Frederick, she reached out to Cherie, explaining her presence there.
Cherie, stationed in Frederick's office, discretely informed Frederick of Charlotte's arrival. "Charlotte's dropped by. She's left breakfast and a change of clothes at the front desk," she relayed.
Frederick looked up from his document, his blue eyes locking onto Cherie. "Then go get them," he said.
Cherie blushed under his gaze. Seriously, if she weren't already married with kids, she wouldn't be able to resist him. But, she wondered, shouldn't Frederick meet Charlotte?
Frederick, still reading, seemed to guess her thoughts. "We see each other every day; no need to be so clingy," he said indifferently.
Despite her disagreement with what he said, Cherie quickly went downstairs to get the breakfast. She invited Charlotte to come up and sit for a while.
Charlotte smiled lightly. "No, I have to go to the hospital later."
Ascending with the provisions, Cherie passed them to Frederick, who, after a laborious night, savored the breakfast and refreshed himself with a swift shower and a change of attire.
Cherie touched her dark circles, silently wishing she had Frederick's good stamina.
Frederick finished his breakfast and sent a message to Charlotte: [Did you buy me a shirt yesterday? Why didn't you bring that?]
Charlotte hadn't expected him to message her, and it made her feel embarrassed. She replied without thinking: [I didn't buy you shirts.]
A subtle smile graced Frederick's lips. He quite liked her shyness.
Preparing to book a ride, Lily's call intercepted her plans.
Straightforward as ever, Lily launched into the issue at hand. "Charlotte, you won't believe what Tina's done! She's crossed a line!"
Taken aback, Charlotte probed, "What has she done?"
Lily sneered. "I heard Ethan dumped her. Instead of going after Ethan, she's targeting you! Our school is an education college. Tina's not just pulling in the college professors but also some big-shot parents this time. She's out to wreck you, I swear."
Charlotte couldn't wrap her head around how deep Tina's dislike for her ran.
Silent, Charlotte's lack of response made Lily fidget. "What about your plan? Did Frederick agree to help you?"
Charlotte didn't hold back, murmuring softly, "He promised to escort me the other night, but he's been swamped lately. Doubt he can make it."
Lily was beyond frustrated. She chuckled, shaking her head, "Come on, you're being naive! No matter how packed his schedule is, he can carve out a few hours. Charlotte, listen up, if you want a guy to help, you gotta make some sacrifice."
Make some sacrifice?
Charlotte reddened, unable to admit her lack of experience despite her budding connection with Frederick.
Lily brushed off Charlotte's embarrassment, delivering a blunt remark. "Charlotte, mark my words, you've gotta take him down!"
