Chapter 347 Let's Have a Child

The light was pretty dim.

It threw long shadows everywhere.

Their eyes met, but no one said a word.

Frederick's head was still buzzing with Charlotte's words.

"He's still the father of two kids."

He always knew Charlotte was willing to patch things up for Lola and Kingsley, to give them a whole family. Otherwise, with what he did, she wouldn't have forgiven him.

But hearing her say words that meant she didn't love him? That stung.

Finally, Frederick croaked out, "It's kinda chilly out. How about a coat?"

He stepped forward, gently helping her into the coat and buttoning it up, one by one.

Charlotte watched him. She wanted to say something, but it felt pointless.

Tina just stood there, her jealousy boiling over. Why did Frederick still love Charlotte so much, knowing she didn't love him?

As Frederick was leaving with Charlotte, Tina couldn't hold back, "Mr. Hawkins, she's not worth it!"

Frederick turned back slowly.

His face looked even colder and more regal under the light, his voice icy. "Ms. Anderson, you should be thankful for Charlotte's kindness; otherwise, do you think you'd still be at this party?"

If Charlotte wanted, Tina wouldn't get a thing, let alone $500 million.

Tina didn't buy it.

She'd lost to Charlotte once because of Andrew. Now that she and Charlotte were filming a movie at the same time, she was sure she could beat her.

She watched them leave, a sly smile on her lips.

She thought she found a way in.

Just then, Lily came over, leaning against the wall with a cold laugh. "What? Cooking up another bad idea?"

Tina spun around.

She and Lily were enemies. Back then, she hooked up with Robert, but Robert cared more about Lily and didn't want a divorce, so she tried having a kid. Ended up losing both the guy and the money.

That kid was given away too.

Tina lifted her chin slightly, snorted. "Just wait and see!"

Lily didn't care.

She knew with Charlotte's business smarts, Tina didn't stand a chance!

It just depended on whether Charlotte wanted to deal with it.

Downstairs, Frederick opened the car door for Charlotte.

She got in, but he just stood there, staring at her with those intense eyes.

Charlotte buckled up and sighed, "Frederick, if you wanna argue, let's do it at home!"

Frederick's gaze was deep.

After a beat, he shut the door.

Once he got in, he drove a bit too fast, making Charlotte a little queasy.

But she sucked it up.

Half an hour later, they pulled up to the apartment.

Neither of them wanted to wake the kids, especially since Lola was super sensitive.

The night air was a bit chilly.

They walked in one after the other, both remembering the last time they were all lovey-dovey here. Now, his heart was just full of unresolved anger.

Frederick pinned her against the door.

His voice was tight. "Charlotte, am I really not worth your love at all? Not worth one more shot?"

Charlotte felt worn out.

She said softly, "Change your shoes; let's talk inside."

He didn't budge, his blue eyes locked on her.

Charlotte slowly straightened up.

She looked at him and gave a faint smile. "Frederick, is this news to you? Or do you think I haven't tried? Yeah, I'm stuck in this marriage for the kids, otherwise what? Watch Kingsley grow up without a dad or make Lola miserable?"

"Frederick, I've tried to give you what you want! You asked me to see a therapist, I went! Even when you wanted another kid, I agreed! Isn't that enough? Frederick, who's being greedy here, you or me? Who's unsatisfied, you or me?"

Charlotte let it all out, stuff she'd been holding in forever.

"After everything, my expectations are way lower now! But you're different; you still want that perfect love. But Frederick, after all these years, I'm already scarred and battered, you can't expect me to be as innocent as a young girl!"

Frederick's blue eyes darkened.

He slowly let go of her, his voice rough. "Charlotte, is this how you really feel? You can never love me like you used to, can you?"

Charlotte forced a smile.

She didn't want to fight anymore.

He said he was willing to stay with her forever.

But how long did that promise last?

Charlotte was calm, and she spoke evenly, "Frederick, if you really want love, go find a young girl who's willing to love you!"

She'd figured it out.

In this plain marriage, only she was content.

So, she was ready to let go.

Frederick's eyes turned sharp; he rarely lost his cool.

A vase got shoved, smashing to the ground, shards flying everywhere.

Charlotte blinked lightly.

That vase was one she had picked out herself, just the day after they had been close. She still remembered how happy she felt decorating their home.

He shattered it so easily.

Charlotte pushed him away and turned to leave.

But Frederick grabbed her from behind, dragging her into the living room with one hand, then carrying her into the bedroom. He took off their coats and kissed her neck.

Charlotte thought he was going to lose it.

But after a long time, he just lay on her warm neck, whispering, "Charlotte, don't ever say that again!"

He wasn't going to look for a young girl.

He only wanted her.

Charlotte turned her face away, her cheek rubbing against the white pillow, her eyes red.

He started kissing her.

In the heat of the moment, she endured him.

Frederick whispered in her ear, "Charlotte, let's have another kid."

If she got pregnant, they wouldn't have time to think about these things, and maybe everything would get back on track!

Charlotte wasn't as hopeful as he was.

She used to think another kid might fix things.

But now, a kid couldn't solve their problems.

Charlotte started taking medication regularly, the kind she took before sex, which had minimal harm to the body and allowed for future pregnancies. She didn't tell Frederick, fearing he'd overthink.

Sometimes she thought the real problem between them was actually Frederick.

Days quietly passed.

They avoided mentioning that day's argument, still looking like the perfect couple. Whether outside or at home, Frederick was always considerate.

He clung to her for marital relations.

Her body was his at least five days a week.

He wanted her to get pregnant, paying more attention to her menstrual and ovulation cycles than she did. He'd be intimate with her when she had a high chance of getting pregnant.

Two months later, Charlotte's belly was still flat.

It was November. Charlotte's birthday was a whole day of celebration.

At night, she walked back to the bedroom after a bath.

The sofa at the foot of the bed was piled with gifts from friends and family.

Charlotte picked up a pink envelope. It was a letter from Lola and Kingsley, along with a super cute drawing. Charlotte quietly looked at it, her heart melting for the kids.

The bedroom door creaked open, and Frederick walked in slowly.

At that moment, Charlotte was opening a box with a seriously expensive gift inside.

It was a necklace.

Charlotte guessed it had to be worth at least $5 million.

She got lost in thought.

By the door, Frederick leaned there, quietly watching her.

When Charlotte noticed him, he lit a cigarette and asked casually, "Who sent such an expensive thing?"

Charlotte caught the hint in his words.

She closed the box and smiled faintly. "No name on the box!"

Frederick's gaze darkened.

He walked over, fiddling with the delicate box, his voice kinda casual. "Charlotte, you know who sent it."

Who else but Ethan?

Charlotte lost the mood to open gifts.

She got up and walked to the dressing table, slowly combing her golden hair. After a moment, she spoke, "Frederick, today is my birthday. Can we not argue? I didn't want to accept it!"

Frederick came up behind her.

He hugged her from behind, teasing her here and there.

Charlotte's breath got a bit shaky.

He leaned close to her ear and softly asked, "Can you not take the pill and make love with me on your birthday?"

Charlotte gently closed her eyes.

He knew!

Frederick's hand reached around her body, pulling a small pill bottle from the drawer.

It was birth control pills.

He lightly bit her ear, his voice incredibly gentle. "Charlotte, I want a child! With this child, we will make it through no matter what, okay?"

Charlotte couldn't hold back any longer and slapped the small bottle away.

The cap popped off, and the pills scattered all over the floor.

Frederick quietly watched her.

After a long time, he gave a bitter smile. "Charlotte, you used to always want my love! But now that I love you, I don't know how to treat you and how to make you happy. You can't make me fall in love with you and then not want me! The one you love is always the Frederick who walked with you for five years. But it's not me!"

After saying this, he quietly walked out.

As he reached the door, Charlotte suddenly spoke, "Frederick! I don't know how much feeling I have left for you, but what I'm willing to give you now, I won't give to anyone else!"

From beginning to end, he couldn't see her devotion to him.

Loyalty was her love for him.

Charlotte felt utterly exhausted.
