Chapter 655 Amara, Are You Tired of Me?
Amara knew Kingsley was well aware of Billy's mess and was just waiting for her to ask for his help. She sighed and said softly, "Billy's in some trouble."
Then she laid out the whole situation. Kingsley's gaze flicked momentarily to the stairs where Nicole had just disappeared, ensuring she had already gone up. He turned back, poured himself a glass of red wine, and said to Amara, "Didn't Landon go back to Syeattel? Why not ask him for help? I heard he's got connections in both the mafia and the government!"
Kingsley took a small sip of the wine and chuckled. "But Billy's got some nerve, messing with his boss's lover! Doesn't he like Naomi?"
As he spoke louder, Amara worried Nicole might hear.
Kingsley reassured her, "The soundproofing upstairs is pretty good."
Amara wanted to say more, but he pointed to the food in front of her and said, "Eat first."
Amara had no appetite, but she knew Kingsley's temper. Even though she wasn't hungry, she forced herself to eat a bit. When she put down her fork, Kingsley said, "That's not enough."
Under the table, Amara gently tugged his hand. "I can't eat anymore."
Kingsley looked up at her, his striking features illuminated by the soft glow of the dining room light. Despite everything, seeing his face still made Amara's heart flutter.
Kingsley held her slender fingers in his hand, gently playing with the wine glass on the table. After a while, he said, "Wait until the kids are asleep, then come to my room to talk."
Amara knew he had agreed. She should have been happy, but her heart felt heavy. Their relationship was good, but this issue made it feel transactional.
When Kingsley went upstairs, he carried Jesse. "Time for bed!"
Snowflake bounced along behind him up the stairs.
Amara sat alone, staring at the half glass of red wine left on the table, the same wine Kingsley had drunk and liked. She picked up the glass, slowly drank the rest, and poured herself another half glass.
After finishing the wine, she felt light and comfortable. She went upstairs to comfort Nicole and put her to bed. Nicole lay in bed, her eyes still teary. "Aunt Amara, will Dad be okay?"
Amara dimmed the bedside lamp, sat by the bed, and gently touched Nicole's face. Amara shook her head lightly.
Nicole bit her lip and asked, "Will Dad and Mom get a divorce? Will Mom take me away like last time?"
Amara's nose tingled with emotion. She didn't know because Billy had made a serious mistake. If she were Naomi, she wouldn't forgive Billy either. She patted Nicole's little head and said, "Nicole can stay here."
Nicole nodded, still somewhat confused, but Amara made her feel safe.
Amara waited until she was sound asleep before leaving. When she returned to her bedroom, Kingsley was there with Jesse, who loved sleeping in Kingsley's arms.
Hearing footsteps, Kingsley looked up. "Is Nicole asleep?"
Amara said, "Yes."
She walked over, sat next to Kingsley, and watched Jesse.
Kingsley asked seriously, "Why do you think Billy had an affair?"
Amara didn't dare to brush him off and said softly, "Maybe it's for something new, but what he did was wrong."
As she spoke, Kingsley kept scrutinizing her. When she finished, he asked, "Amara, what about you? How do you feel about me now? Are you tired of me?"
Amara looked at him and after a moment, said softly, "Kingsley."
He raised his hand to gently touch her face, his voice even lower. "Have you?"
The vulnerability in his eyes was something Amara hadn't anticipated. She thought he just wanted her to be more proactive during sex, but she didn't expect him to ask these questions. She felt both overwhelmed and unable to avoid the issue.
Kingsley wouldn't let her brush it off. He placed Jesse in the bed and then carried Amara to his own bedroom. Afraid of falling, she quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and softly called his name.
Kingsley walked into the bedroom and gently kicked the door shut.
Amara was placed on the sofa. He leaned over her soft body, still touching her face, and said softly, "Amara, answer my question. Are you tired of me now? Have you ever fantasized about having sex with other men besides me? Do you get aroused when I kiss you?" He began to kiss her, his deep male voice muffled.
He was gentle yet forceful, leaving Amara unable to say a word. Her body was limp on the sofa, but her eyes were filled with emotion.
Kingsley's forehead was covered in fine sweat, his handsome face flushed with desire. Amara looked up at him, feeling a surge of conflicting emotions. How could she ever tire of him, let alone fantasize about someone else?
But these words were not easy for Amara to say. Sensing her reluctance, he forced her to answer with a mix of urgency and demand, pushing past her defenses until tears welled up in her eyes. She clung to his neck, her voice broken. "Never."
Kingsley bit her chin lightly and pressed her. "Really? Have you ever thought of leaving me?"
"No. Kingsley, you're a jerk!"
Kingsley's gaze was deep and unfathomable. He lowered his head, staring at her, making her body tremble.
He slowly lowered his head, his straight nose touching hers. "You better not have!"
The next morning, Amara woke up to find Kingsley no longer in bed. She stretched slightly, wincing as her body protested with a dull ache. Amara hugged the pillow, gritting her teeth. How much did Kingsley crave sex? Her waist hurt so much!
The door opened gently, and Nicole said, "Aunt Amara!"
Nicole's little head peeked in. She had two braids, looking fresh and cute, and ran to Amara's bedside, saying happily, "Mr. Hawkins said Dad will be back in a few days! Mr. Hawkins also said they won't get a divorce, and Nicole can stay with Grandma!"
Amara was happy for her. But the price was high!
Nicole leaned on the bed, suddenly touched Amara's face, and asked hesitantly, "Aunt Amara, are you not feeling well? Your face is so red; should we call a doctor?"
Amara flushed even deeper, and she mumbled, "I'm fine!"
Nicole didn't quite believe it. At this moment, Kingsley walked in from the door, his tone light. "Amara might be pregnant, so her body temperature is a bit high!"
Nicole's eyes widened, staring at Amara's belly. Amara glanced at Kingsley.
Kingsley patted Nicole's shoulder. "Let's go! I'll take you to school."
He then gently touched Amara's shoulder. "Get some rest!"
Amara couldn't help but say, "I'm not pregnant!"
Kingsley chuckled. "Maybe you got pregnant last night!"
