Chapter 794 That Time on the Island, Natalie Got Pregnant 2

When the pregnancy test showed two red lines, she stared at them for a long time.

She opened another box and tested again.

Still two red lines.

She was pregnant! With Grant's child.

Natalie felt all her strength drain away as she collapsed onto the toilet seat.

Even though she had mentally prepared herself before the test, the emotional impact was overwhelming.

The bathroom door opened quietly.

Clayton stood at the doorway.

Natalie heard the sound and looked up into his eyes. They stared at each other for about ten seconds before Clayton walked over, gently held her head, and pulled her into his embrace.

Natalie felt a lump in her throat. "Clayton."

After a moment, Clayton spoke softly, "If we're getting married, we might not be able to wait until the fall. Natalie, how about we have the wedding in June?"

He spoke gently, just like he always had.

It was like the past, when Natalie would get into a little trouble, and Clayton would be there to clean it up.

Natalie looked up at him.

Clayton held her close, then bent down and hugged her quietly.

After a long time, he finally spoke, "We'll go to the hospital for a check-up tomorrow morning, then tell our families that this child is mine."

Natalie was worried.

Clayton held her gently, his voice softer than the night, "My parents won't live with us. We barely see them twice a year; they won't notice. As for your side... even if your brother suspects something, he won't say anything. Natalie, the person who raises the child is the child's parent."

Natalie was still afraid he would feel wronged.

Clayton stroked her head and sighed softly, "I don't want to give up on the happiness we've found."

That night, they barely slept.

They lay in bed, each holding their own blanket, talking.

In the darkness, Clayton held her hand the whole time, so Natalie didn't have any nightmares.

Early in the morning, Clayton took her to the hospital for a check-up.

The blood test was positive; she was eight weeks pregnant.

Natalie held the test results, looking at them over and over. Clayton gently put his arm around her shoulders, "You can look at it more when we get home."

Natalie felt that Clayton seemed to accept the reality better than she did.

Clayton put his arm around her waist, "Let's go to the pharmacy to get some folic acid!"

Natalie didn't know much about these things, but Clayton had already researched a lot the night before. As a man, he couldn't say he felt nothing, but the situation was what it was, and he didn't want to lose Natalie.

He would love this child just as he loved Natalie.

At the pharmacy entrance, they unexpectedly ran into Grant.

Grant was there with Alvina for a doctor's appointment, also picking up medication. The atmosphere was very tense when they saw each other.

Especially for Alvina.

She hadn't expected to see Natalie again. After she had asked Natalie to leave Grant, she thought she would never see her again. But here they were, meeting again.

Natalie seemed to be doing well, with a tall and strong man by her side.

Alvina felt uneasy.

Because Grant wasn't doing well. Even though Clara was by his side, Alvina wasn't foolish; she knew Grant was always unhappy. Yet, this Natalie had found a boyfriend, maybe even a husband.

Alvina spoke first, her tone unfriendly, "Ms. Devereux, long time no see! Is this your husband?"

Natalie turned pale.

She looked at the mother and son across from her, still holding the pregnancy test results.

Grant was about to persuade his mother to leave when he caught sight of the paper in Natalie's hand. He didn't have children, but he recognized the words.

Seeing how Clayton was protecting her, Grant's blood almost froze.

The paper slipped from Natalie's fingers.

She reached to pick it up, but a slender hand got there first. It was Grant.

"Eight weeks pregnant!"

Grant said it softly, repeating it several times before looking up at Natalie, "Eight weeks pregnant! It seems you moved in with Mr. Percy right after that night! Did you jump from my bed straight to Mr. Percy's? I hear you're getting married. Congratulations."

Alvina couldn't take it anymore.

She screamed, "Grant, do you know what you're saying? How could a woman like her be your wife? Tell me you have nothing to do with her!"

Grant acted like he didn't hear her, staring intently at Natalie.

He should have let go a long time ago.

But seeing her so happy made him jealous and resentful. Why could she move on so quickly, while he was left with all this bitterness?

Natalie turned even paler.

Her lips trembled, but she couldn't say a word.

Was it her fault?

Her body had long been unsuitable for childbirth. After that night, he had forced her to take a morning-after pill.

Just when she and Clayton were at their happiest, planning their wedding, she found out she was pregnant with his child.

The child's father was making things difficult for her with every word.

Natalie lowered her eyes and smiled faintly, "Thank you for your blessings, Mr. McCall. Clayton and I accept them."

She gently took Clayton's arm.

It was like she was speaking to herself, but also to Grant, "I'm pregnant, and I'll take good care of this child. You don't need to worry, Mr. McCall. From now on, just focus on your own life and don't concern yourself with others."

"And Mrs. McCall, rest assured... after all these years, I have no interest in Grant. I was young and foolish before, but that won't happen again."

Natalie finished speaking and smiled lightly.

She looked up at Clayton and said softly, "Let's go get the folic acid."

Clayton looked at her quietly. Natalie smiled faintly, and he gently stroked her head... very tenderly and lovingly!

They went to the pharmacy, got the folic acid, and left.

Grant and his mother were left behind.

Alvina kept muttering, "I don't get it! That guy looks decent, why would he want Natalie? She's already been with you."

"Mom!"

Grant's tone was harsh, startling Alvina. After a moment, she started again, "When are you and Clara getting married? Natalie's already pregnant, and you're still single. It's not fair! But with all the bad things the Devereux family has done, who knows if the child will be okay."

Grant had a headache and put her in the car, closing the door and telling the driver to go.

Alvina rolled down the window, "Grant, aren't you coming?"

In the April sunshine, Grant stood there, looking gloomy, "I need a moment alone."

Alvina wanted to say more but didn't dare when she saw his expression.

She thought Grant's unhappiness was Natalie's fault.

If it hadn't been for Natalie pursuing Grant back then, he wouldn't be so miserable now.

The car drove away.

Grant lost his balance and sat on the edge of a flower bed, silent for a long time. When he finally regained feeling, he took out a cigarette and smoked slowly.

He couldn't think straight; he had only one thought.

'Natalie is pregnant!'

He closed his eyes. She was ruthless, cutting ties with him and then having a child with Clayton... He had always thought she still had feelings for him.

'Grant, you're ridiculous!'

Natalie didn't go abroad because of her pregnancy.

On April 28th, she and Clayton held their engagement ceremony at the largest church in Seattle. It was simple but grand, with many important people in attendance.

Grant didn't come.

He saw the engagement photos of Natalie and Clayton in the newspaper. It was the first time he saw Natalie in a wedding dress, looking small and adorable next to Clayton.

Grant raised his glass and chuckled, "To a match made in heaven."

Golden liquid, one glass after another.

He hated Natalie but couldn't help wondering if things would have been different if they didn't come from such families. Would they have married right after college?

Even if they weren't wealthy, he could have taken good care of Natalie.

But there were no "ifs"... Grant drank too much. The manager, seeing his distress, called a girl to accompany him...

She looked a bit like Natalie. Drunk, Grant pinned her to the couch, staring at her with bloodshot eyes.

The manager thought it might work out.

But the next second, Grant pushed her away, panting and talking nonsense.

"She's getting married! How could she be here!"

In broad daylight, Grant smashed three private rooms in the club.

The manager, disregarding his status, called the police.

Grant was familiar with the police. He immediately called Gavin, "Mr. Devereux, your brother-in-law is at the police station again. Should we handle it the usual way? Will you come to bail him out?"

Gavin was at a banquet!

He walked out with his phone, found a quiet spot, and cursed, "Damn it! I'm drinking! My brother-in-law and sister are having their wedding toast, and now there's another brother-in-law."

"The Mr. McCall! Quite the gentleman!"

Grant?

Gavin clicked his tongue, thinking for a moment before saying, "I'll be there soon." He hung up.

Turning around, he saw Molly standing there, looking worried.

Gavin pinched her cheek and said softly, "I'll be back soon!"

Molly grabbed his arm.

Gavin looked at her quietly. Molly hesitated before speaking in a low voice, "Gavin, I know I'm not very smart, so you and Mom handle everything at home. But... but Natalie is my sister too. I think I have a say. She loves Clayton, and Clayton loves the child. Please don't..."

She couldn't finish the sentence.

Gavin stared at her.

Under the crystal chandelier, his eyes were unreadable. After a while, he smiled faintly, "I'm just bailing him out. Nothing more! You have the makings of a good sister-in-law. Not bad."

Molly beamed, "Gavin, you're so good!"

Gavin suddenly hugged her.

He remembered when he wanted to get back at her, deliberately getting close to her, making her fall for him, and then abandoning her...

Many nights, he remembered her crying in the rain, begging him not to leave.

But he left anyway!

Gavin kissed her hair and said hoarsely, "I'm not good at all! You're the good one."

Molly blushed.

Gavin kissed her again, "Don't worry, I'll be back soon."

But Gavin didn't get to Grant. Before he arrived, the McCall family had bailed him out.

Gavin stood outside the police station, smoking two cigarettes quietly. He thought, 'It should be peaceful now.'

Indeed, the next day, Grant cleaned up the mess.

He didn't bother Natalie anymore.

Nor did he continue to oppose the Devereux family; he returned to his normal life.

In May, news of his engagement to Clara spread. The upper circles were small, and it was rumored that Alvina had threatened to kill herself, swallowing half a bottle of sleeping pills... Grant agreed to marry her at her hospital bed.

Everyone seemed to have found their place.

Life settled down.

In June, Natalie and Clayton couldn't get married as planned. The baby was causing quite a commotion in her belly, and Clayton suggested they wait until after the birth. By then, Natalie's belly was slightly showing.

Natalie had a feeling it was a girl... At the end of June, she met Grace at a salon and ran into Grant and Clara.

They were trying on wedding dresses.

Logically, Clara should have been full of joy, but she looked lifeless, her face pale. They didn't look like a couple about to get married, more like resentful partners.

Natalie only glanced for two seconds before turning away.

Suddenly, she felt a movement in her belly, the baby's first kick.
