Chapter 397 Charlotte Had Changed a Lot

Lily hopped in the car first.

Chloe helped Charlotte in, and Lily freaked out. "Charlotte, I'm so sorry! I totally messed up your plan! Just seeing Tina makes my blood boil, let alone working with her. She makes me wanna puke."

She kept apologizing like crazy. Holding Charlotte's hand, she tried to play it cool.

After all these years, Charlotte knew her too well.

Charlotte gave a little smile. "No need to rush with the apologies! You actually did us a solid today!"

Lily was puzzled. "What did I do?"

Charlotte gently touched her chest, where the crystal lamp had grazed her, leaving a faint pink scar. It still burned sometimes, a constant reminder of what Tina had done.

Charlotte's voice was soft.

She told Lily, "If we suddenly got along with her, it wouldn't seem real."

Lily didn't fully get it, but she trusted Charlotte.

If Charlotte said she did good, then she did, and she felt pretty proud.

Charlotte treated her to a meal.

Lily had a few drinks and was a bit tipsy when she headed home.

Bradley came to pick her up.

He supported the drunken Lily and greeted Charlotte, "Sorry, Charlotte, for all the trouble with her."

Charlotte and Chloe stood at the restaurant entrance.

Even though she was pregnant, it was hard to tell under her loose down jacket, which only added to her charm.

Charlotte gently brushed her golden hair and smiled. "Get her home quick!"

Bradley nodded to her and Chloe, then helped Lily into the car.

It was warm in the car, and Lily had been drinking.

She took off her coat and kissed Bradley's handsome face.

Even after years of marriage, Bradley was still into his wife's body, but now they were in the car on a busy street, not the best place.

He kissed her gently for a bit, his voice husky. "We'll continue this at home."

Lily pressed her face against his and giggled. "Bradley, I did something good today!"

Bradley stroked her shoulder and asked patiently.

Lily then recounted how she had scolded Tina, ending with a silly, "Charlotte praised me!"

Bradley was both amused and exasperated.

Clearly, Charlotte had known Lily wouldn't hold back and had brought her along on purpose to lower Tina's guard. After Lily's outburst, Charlotte even praised her for doing a solid.

At the same time, Bradley felt a bit emotional.

Charlotte had really changed.

He still remembered when he first met Charlotte; she was so pure and only wanted love.

Time had really changed her a lot.

He couldn't say if it was good or bad, but Frederick liked it.

Frederick also came to pick up Charlotte and Chloe. He first took Chloe back to Hawkins Mansion.

Chloe and Andrew's wedding was scheduled for about a month later, but she planned to take Gavin to Copenhegan before that, so it would be a family reunion.

The car drove into Hawkins Mansion and parked in the lot.

Chloe got out of the car.

Frederick followed and called out to her.

"What's up?" Chloe said hesitantly.

Frederick reached out and ruffled her hair, speaking softly, "When are you leaving? I'll arrange a private jet for you! And don't be too headstrong. If anything happens, come back and talk to us, okay?"

Chloe glanced at the car.

Charlotte lowered the window and looked at her gently.

Chloe's eyes welled up, and she softly replied, "In a few days. Frederick, I'll."

Frederick patted her head again. "Alright, it's cold. Go inside quickly!"

Chloe turned and ran inside.

Frederick got back in the car and asked Charlotte to roll up the window. As he started the car, he said, "In the blink of an eye, Chloe is getting married. I still remember when she was little."

As he spoke, he felt a bit sad.

Lola was still a child now.

The baby in Charlotte's belly was also a child.

Frederick had mixed feelings, feeling happy about having a little girl but also dreading the thought of her growing up and being married off.

Charlotte had no idea what he was thinking.

She was still thinking about Tina.

Just then, Tina called her, and Charlotte answered but didn't speak.

On the other end, Tina was quiet for a sec before saying, "Lily won't forgive me. Charlotte, can't you cut me some slack? Besides hooking up with Ethan, I haven't really done anything to you."

The car was dimly lit.

Charlotte held the phone, her face blank.

But her tone was chill. "Tina, you gotta get that I don't care about feelings anymore, it's all about status now! If you wanna patch things up, it's doable, but I need to see some real effort from you."

Tina was stunned.

She was sharp enough to get what Charlotte meant.

Charlotte wanted her to play nice!

In Syeattel's high society, not all rich ladies had the same clout. The one everyone buzzed about had the most power. Tina never thought Charlotte had climbed that high.

Tina hated being second to anyone.

But she needed to get along with Charlotte now.

Her face twitched, and she finally gritted her teeth and forced out, "Charlotte, I'll show you I'm serious."

Charlotte smiled and hung up.

Frederick guessed what the call was about and gently held her hand.

Charlotte shook her head. "I'm good! These issues with her need to be sorted out eventually."

Early the next morning, Tina showed up with a gift.

It was a necklace worth millions.

Charlotte met her in the small flower room, with bodyguards nearby, of course.

In the fancy, cozy room, Charlotte wore a woolen long dress, lounging on the soft sofa. She opened the pricey necklace, glanced at it, then casually tossed it on the table.

"It's pretty!" she said lightly.

Tina was secretly fuming.

She told herself she had to get used to this kind of snub. Once she became Landon's wife, she wouldn't have to put up with Charlotte anymore. Who knew who'd be on top then!

Tina swallowed her anger. "I remember you have a dress that would go perfectly with this jewelry."

Charlotte smiled.

She took a sip of the water Dana brought her. "So, tell me, what do you want from me for such an expensive gift?"

Tina didn't beat around the bush. "I want to marry into the Carter family!"

Charlotte looked at her thoughtfully.

Tina quickly added, "Landon likes to play around, but he's tight with Brian. Charlotte, we're old friends; you gotta help me with this."

Charlotte laughed. "Brian can't make him marry you!"

Tina felt super awkward.

She lowered her tone. "Then, get me into your circle! I know there's a party at the Hughes family tomorrow night, with big shots from both Syeattel and Bostan."

Charlotte slightly curled her lips. "You wanna meet Landon's dad, Matthew Carter?"

Tina didn't deny it.

Charlotte got it. Landon didn't want to take over the family biz, so Tina wanted to show her good side to Matthew to win his favor and leverage his support to marry into the family.

What a move.

Charlotte picked up the velvet box and opened it.

She held the expensive necklace against her neck and asked Tina, "Does it look good?"

Tina got up, walked behind Charlotte, and gently fastened it for her. "It looks awesome!"

Charlotte slightly curled her lips and said to Dana, "Call Celine and tell her I wanna bring someone to the party tomorrow night."

The servant nodded. "Okay, I'll contact her right away."

Charlotte kept sipping her water.

Tina felt uneasy. The invite she couldn't get, Charlotte just had a servant call Celine for it. Was it because they were tight, or did the Hughes family respect Charlotte that much?

Charlotte put down her cup.

She said lightly, "I have once done a favor for the Hughes family."

Tina couldn't help but feel nervous.

At this moment, she kinda regretted what she had done to Charlotte. Even though there was no proof, she still felt guilty.

Luckily, Charlotte didn't know!

Charlotte spoke, "By the way, I heard you're now investing with Elizabeth. I know a bit about Brian's racing team; they like to stir things up. Be careful!"

Tina was sure. Charlotte considered her one of her own now!

She couldn't help but feel smug. Charlotte was like a flower in a greenhouse; she would never be her match!
