Chapter 714 Johnny, Let's Divorce!
Lola stared at Johnny, frozen in place. After a moment, she glanced down at the laptop screen, the images of a couple kissing blending with the sight of Johnny standing before her.
'If I hadn't seen it myself, I wouldn't have believed he could be so passionate with another woman,' Lola thought.
She kept all of this in mind. It was burned into her memory. Whenever she felt soft for him, she would recall this revolting scene.
Johnny's fingers trembled slightly, and it took him a while to get a grip. He walked over to her, grabbed the laptop from her lap, and said, "Stop watching this!"
He tried to delete the video, but the file was too large to delete. Frustrated, Johnny slammed the laptop shut, and the screen went dark.
Johnny then began picking up the photos scattered on the carpet. They were all pictures of him kissing Shirley.
He had seen these photos at the Hawkins Mansion, captured from very suggestive angles. Frederick had thrown them in his face and slapped him several times. He had endured it because he had no defense.
Even now, looking at them still made him shocked. He didn't know how his marriage with Lola had ended up like this, and how he could have hurt her so deeply with Shirley.
Suddenly there was a flicker of fire, and the photos were burned. The firelight cast a shadow on his face, making him look even more sinister. His voice was strained, "I didn't have sexual relations with her!"
After he spoke, there was a long silence in the study.
It wasn't until he felt the burn on his fingers that Lola spoke calmly, "I've etched this into my mind. I'll never forget it, Johnny. I've filed for divorce. With the evidence Ms. Wells provided, I think our marriage will be over in six months at most. The property division will remain as it was. This house is where the kids are used to living, but if you want it as your wedding home... I'll move out with the kids as soon as possible."
Her tone was extremely calm.
Johnny knew her temper well, having grown up with her. He stepped forward and slowly knelt in front of her. He wanted to stroke her hair, but as soon as he touched her, she pushed his hand away. "Don't touch me!"
Lola's reaction was so intense that it almost startled Johnny.
He looked at his hand and smiled bitterly, slowly lowering it. He said, "I don't love her! I never did, not even a little!"
"You don't love her, not even a little," Lola repeated his words, then gave a light laugh. "Johnny, don't you think it's too late to say this now? Everyone in Seattle knows Shirley is your mistress. You made me and my parents lose dignity. Did you ever think about my parents, who treated you like their own son? You had everything Kingsley had, and even more. Why? Because they genuinely cared for you. But you went down the same path as your father. Did you think about Angelina and Austin when you did those disgusting things with Shirley? No, you didn't!"
"Johnny, you're not fit to be a father! Kingsley was right. You're an ungrateful jerk. You only cared that I still thought about Darren. You wanted to use women to get back at me. But if it weren't for Darren, Angelina and I would have died in Novaria! He died in a foreign land, and I can't even visit his grave once a year?" As Lola spoke, she felt a wave of suppression.
She found it laughable.
Johnny slowly knelt down, trying to hug her for comfort.
But Lola didn't want it. She resisted his touch, and didn't even want to see him. She looked at him calmly and said, "Johnny, let's get divorced. I don't love you anymore!"
Johnny trembled in the darkness. The night masked his fear, but Lola didn't care anymore. She told him to leave.
Johnny refused, "I can't leave you alone. I'll stay with you."
When Lola went to bed, he followed her. He closed the bedroom door and tried to kiss her, to rekindle her passion and memories.
But Lola was indifferent, "Johnny, can you get aroused anytime, anywhere? Isn't Shirley enough for you?"
Johnny's face turned as pale as a sheet. He clenched his fists lightly and asked in a low voice, "What will it take for you to believe me? I didn't sleep with her."
Lola acted as if she hadn't heard. She had drunk a little and just wanted to sleep. She wanted to sleep so badly. Maybe after a good night's sleep, everything would be back to normal, and she would still be the old Lola.
She lay down on the bed, curled up, and pulled the blanket over herself.
Johnny wanted to approach her, but he knew she was very resistant, so he just curled up on the sofa. He turned off the light and listened to her breathing become steady, indicating she had fallen asleep.
In the darkness, his face hurt, but he didn't care.
Maybe he was too tired. Johnny slept until dawn. When he woke up, the morning light filtered through the curtains, soft and comforting. The house was just as it had always been, and he could still smell Lola's favorite bath gel.
All of this made Johnny feel disoriented.
When he sat up, he stared blankly at everything, unable to distinguish between reality and illusion. The sudden pain in his face reminded him of the reality of yesterday.
"Lola!" He quickly got up from the sofa and hurried downstairs, expecting to see Lola sitting at the dining table. After all, she usually had breakfast at home. But the dining room was empty.
Cindy saw him come downstairs and said, "Mrs. Flores left early this morning." Then she busied herself with cleaning the table.
Johnny didn't care about his wrinkled shirt. He sat at the dining table, lit a cigarette, and asked softly, "Did Mrs. Flores have breakfast?"
Cindy pointed to the newspaper on the table. "No, I guess she didn't feel like eating."
Johnny looked over. The Seattle Morning News headline was a scandal, with a huge photo.
The main characters were him and Shirley.
This was all part of Shirley's plan. She had spent $200,000 to buy the front page, but if it meant becoming Johnny's wife, it would be worth it.
Cindy said sarcastically, "She looks far worse than Mrs. Flores. Do all men like women like that?"
Johnny took a deep drag on his cigarette and glanced at Cindy, who then fell silent.
After a long time, Johnny said softly, "I don't like her."
Cindy thought he was being ridiculous. If he didn't like her, why spend so much money on her and make Lola so angry? Was he keeping her to take care of him in his old age? She didn't believe it.
Johnny drank a cup of black coffee, went upstairs to take a shower, and changed his clothes before heading to the office.
He predicted that the company's stock would plummet when the market opened, and he knew Kingsley and Gavin would both take the opportunity to kick him while he was down. Even Landon might join in.
With pressure from all sides, it was possible they wanted to destroy him.
Johnny slowly went downstairs. The driver and Felicity were already waiting outside. Felicity professionally reported the situation as they got into the car, "According to our monitoring, the shareholders are all very anxious. The major shareholders want Mrs. Flores to come out and clarify things."
Johnny sat in the back seat. His face still showed signs of swelling, but it didn't detract from his good looks. He said calmly, "There will be no clarification. Lola has filed for divorce."
Felicity was taken aback, guessing that Shirley had angered Lola. She asked softly, "What should we do about Ms. Wells?"
Logically, Shirley had caused such a big mess, and Johnny should deal with her personally. But with the company in chaos, he really didn't have the time. Besides, he felt a bit repulsed by the idea.
He rubbed his forehead and said, "From today on, I don't want to hear anything about her."
Felicity understood that this meant Shirley was being blacklisted. She nodded. "Understood."
They continued discussing business matters. When they arrived at the office, they immediately held an emergency meeting that lasted over ten hours. By the time it ended, it was already ten at night.
As Johnny walked out of the meeting room, Felicity said, "Ms. Wells has called over twenty times. She wants to see you."
Johnny paused. He knew Felicity was deliberately making things difficult for Shirley. He said, "I won't see her. From now on, you don't need to report her calls."
They took the elevator to the top-floor office. Someone was waiting for Johnny. It was Kingsley.
Over thirty, Kingsley was mature and handsome, looking very much like a young Frederick. He sat on the guest sofa, his long legs crossed. When he saw Johnny, he uncrossed them.
Kingsley said, "Johnny, let's have a talk."
Felicity could tell that Kingsley was not here for a friendly chat. She looked at her boss, who handed her his files, "Sure."
Half an hour later, in the guest room, two men lay on the carpet.
Kingsley's idea of a talk was a brutal beating for Johnny.
Kingsley panted heavily, looking at the man he had once admired. He sneered, "From the moment you brought that woman back, you should have known you were a traitor! Johnny, there are things my dad and Lola won't say, but I will! After Lola divorces you, you don't need to call my parents Mom and Dad anymore. You're a Flores."
He added, "Or maybe that Wells woman has parents. Stop looking for new ones everywhere! A man with dignity who keeps a mistress and cheats shouldn't be afraid!"
Johnny struggled to sit up.
Kingsley, feeling a toothache, barely managed to get up and kicked Johnny a couple more times before leaving.
A white Bentley was parked downstairs, with pink interior.
Amara was waiting in the car. When she saw him come out, she immediately went to help him, "I've told you so many times, you're too old to be fighting. Isn't it childish?"
Kingsley got into the car, tilting his head so Amara could apply medicine, "How could I just stand by and watch Lola get hurt? If Gavin were here, we would have beaten Johnny to a pulp!"
Amara gently applied the medicine. When she was almost done, she said, "I don't feel sorry for him! I just think you shouldn't have to do it yourself. You could have hired some big guys to do it. Wouldn't that be more effective?"
Kingsley stared at her for a while, then pinched her soft cheek, "I didn't realize Mrs. Hawkins was so ruthless! Anyway, I wouldn't dare keep a mistress. You would definitely have someone break my legs."
Amara, feeling sorry for his injuries, kissed him on the cheek. She said seriously, "As long as you're happy."
Kingsley said nothing. He just gently held Amara in his arms and smoothed her hair.
Johnny lay there for a while before Felicity came over with a first aid kit. She knelt down to treat Johnny's wounds.
Felicity thought, 'He really got beaten up badly!'
She said gently, "Mr. Flores, does it hurt?"
Johnny didn't respond. He just stared quietly at the ceiling light. Felicity quickly treated his wounds and then gave him some shocking news, "The Hawkins family must have pulled some strings. The lawsuit was filed this morning, and the court issued a summons this afternoon. It was just delivered to me. Mr. Flores, let me read it to you."
Johnny slowly sat up, leaning against the sofa, and reached out his hand.
Felicity handed him the summons.
It was just a small piece of paper, but it felt like it weighed a thousand pounds. He stared at it for a long time before saying softly, "Leave me alone for a while."
Felicity had more to say, but seeing how distressed he was, she quietly left.
In the luxurious guest room.
Johnny looked at the summons over and over, until his eyes hurt. He took out his phone and called Lola. It rang twice before she hung up. He tried calling again.
He had been blocked by Lola. She had blocked him on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and every other social media and communication channel.
He couldn't find her. He couldn't even say a word to her.
