Chapter 741 Lola Gives Birth, Stella Is Born
Lola could definitely taste it.
She looked down for a long time before finally scooping some up and bringing it to her lips.
Smoothies are supposed to be cold and refreshing.
But this one had a slight bitter taste on her tongue.
Lola savored the flavor, eating slowly at first, then faster and faster. Soon, she finished the small bowl and looked up at the maid, saying, "It's pretty good."
The maid sighed in relief.
She took the bowl with a smile and said, "There's another bowl you can have later. Mr. Hawkins said you shouldn't have more than two."
Lola replied calmly, "Okay."
Seeing Lola willing to drink made the maid happy, and she left with a spring in her step. As she reached for the door handle, Lola's voice came from behind, "I'd like some roast chicken later."
The maid turned back, delighted. "Sure, I'll have the chef make it right away."
Lola felt a bit embarrassed under the maid's gaze and pretended to look at the book in her hands. The maid reminded her, "Ms. Hawkins, your book is upside down."
Lola's face warmed, and she cleared her throat, "It's for prenatal education."
The maid went downstairs.
Frederick put down his magazine and asked, "Did she eat?" Charlotte was also concerned, and Angelina and Austin perked up their ears to listen.
The maid spoke briskly, "She did! Ate quite well."
She thought for a moment and added, "She probably knew who made it, but didn't say anything... Now she wants the chef to make roast chicken. Mr. Hawkins, Mrs. Hawkins, I'll head to the kitchen."
Frederick was pleased, "At least she's eating now, still..."
He realized something and immediately shut his mouth.
Charlotte knew what he wanted to say and could only sigh softly, turning to take care of Angelina and Austin.
As Austin went upstairs, he couldn't help but glance outside the villa.
Outside, a black SUV was parked.
Johnny leaned against the car, the night wind lifting the hem of his shirt and his hair. He stood there for a long time until his phone rang.
It was Dino Thibodeaux from The Hawkins Mansion, sounding a bit nervous, "Mr. Flores, Ms. Hawkins is eating and her appetite is better, you can rest assured."
Dino hung up quickly, afraid someone might overhear.
He had taken Johnny's bribe to report back to him, and if Frederick found out, it would be disastrous!
Just as he hung up, he saw Frederick standing at the door.
Who knew how long he had been listening.
Dino's hand shook, his lips trembling for a long time, not daring to speak. He knew Frederick's rules and temperament.
Frederick's gaze was deep.
After a moment, Frederick approached, pulling a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, taking one out, and saying, "Dino, can I borrow a lighter?"
He pretended to complain, "Charlotte is strict. I don't dare smoke in front of her. Gavin has given it to me secretly."
Dino knew he was safe.
He quickly took out a lighter, lighting Frederick's cigarette and saying, "Mrs. Hawkins cares about your health."
Frederick's long fingers held the cigarette, his narrow eyes slightly squinting.
There was still a hint of his youthful handsomeness in his features.
He smiled and patted Dino's shoulder, "You're right! Just don't tell Charlotte."
Dino quickly promised, "I won't say a word, you can count on it."
Frederick left the kitchen, walking through the dim garden, the cigarette smoke curling around his fingers. His eyes were slightly wet.
It was as if he could see the past again.
That year, he brought Johnny back, telling him this was his home now, he could call him Dad or Uncle.
Johnny thought he was chosen for his rare blood type, but if Frederick didn't care Johnny, why would he bring him home? No matter how valuable his rare blood type was, how many people would be willing to bring him home?
Especially since Johnny had an accident in elementary school.
He lost a lot of blood.
Frederick had donated a pint of his own blood to save him. A pint is the limit. If he didn't truly see Johnny as a son, why would someone as cold as him do that?
Frederick walked through the path, turning a corner where he could see outside the villa.
Sure enough, he saw the black SUV.
Johnny was standing there, not smoking.
Frederick watched for a while, then silently turned back towards the villa. Johnny saw him too, his lips moving slightly, but Frederick had already gone inside.
That night, Johnny stood outside for a long time.
Summer turned to fall.
Johnny often made food for Angelina and Austin to bring back, and most of the time, Lola was willing to eat it, probably for the sake of the baby.
Since Lola was willing to eat, Johnny devoted himself to studying recipes.
But she still wouldn't forgive him, wouldn't let him accompany her to check-ups, wouldn't see him. Even as the due date approached, she didn't want him there.
"Dad, does having a baby hurt a lot?" Angelina asked.
Johnny was momentarily lost in thought, then he remembered being with Lola when she gave birth to Austin. She was in so much pain, her face pale, gripping his hand tightly.
But when Austin was born, Lola smiled gently.
She softly said, "Johnny, he looks so cute."
Lost in thought, Angelina called him again, bringing him back. Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang. It was a secret call from The Hawkins Mansion, "Mr. Flores, Ms. Hawkins might be going into labor early."
Johnny's hand trembled as he held the phone.
He quickly hung up and told Angelina, "Mommy is having the baby, we need to go."
Angelina was very nervous.
As they left, she held onto Johnny's pinky. Since the incident in Sunset City, Angelina hadn't been this close and dependent on him for a long time.
Johnny's eyes reddened.
He knew Angelina was scared, so he gently hugged her, speaking softly, "Daddy's here."
Angelina still held onto him.
Johnny, not wanting to waste time, picked her up despite her being ten years old, and quickly got in the car. He drove fast but steady, mindful of Angelina in the car.
Seattle Wellness Oasis Hospital.
Lola's baby arrived a week early.
The situation was better than everyone expected. Stella didn't make Lola suffer for long. After arriving at the hospital, the obstetrician personally examined her and said, "Prepare for delivery."
She was a family friend of the Hawkins, bending down to gently encourage Lola, "Everything looks good, the baby's head isn't too big, and the special blood plasma has already been delivered to the hospital."
She paused, not to say something inappropriate.
In her pain, Lola heard and knew the blood was Johnny's.
He regularly donated blood.
Lola was in a daze from the pain, her mind drifting back to many memories; both good and bad, all involving Johnny.
Dr. Willow Reed gently asked, "Do you need someone to be with you during the delivery?"
Last time, when Lola gave birth to Austin, Johnny was there. Even though they were divorced now, this baby was Johnny's, and he was already outside.
Under the bright lights of the delivery room, Lola's face rested on the pillow, and she shook her head lightly.
A tear slid down her cheek.
Willow gently touched her face and softly said, "I'll step out for a moment to speak with your parents."
Lola nodded.
From start to finish, she didn't ask about Johnny.
Willow left the delivery room, closing the door quietly behind her.
The Hawkins family was all there. Charlotte was the first to approach and ask, "How is she?"
Willow patted her hand and smiled, "Everything looks good. I estimate the delivery won't take more than two hours, and the baby is very active, seems eager to come out."
Charlotte was relieved and wanted to go in to be with Lola.
"Mom, let me go in with her," Johnny suddenly spoke, his voice hoarse. Angelina was still clinging tightly to his hand.
Charlotte felt conflicted, but Willow spoke up.
"Lola said she doesn't need anyone with her."
Johnny's eyes dimmed, and he silently stepped back, leaning against the wall, gazing at the delivery room door... just a door separating him and Lola.
At that moment, a woman's high-pitched scream came from the neighboring delivery room.
It sounded like she couldn't bear the pain.
Johnny's face turned pale, and his fingers trembled uncontrollably. If he ever regretted anything, he regretted it now. He had wanted a child to keep Lola, but the pain of childbirth was something Lola had to endure.
Frederick, seeing him like that, felt a surge of anger.
"Is regret useful now? The baby is about to be born, with eyes and a nose."
Johnny called out bitterly, "Dad."
Frederick glared at him, then turned to look at the delivery room door. His daughter was giving birth, and as a father, he was heartbroken. He wished he could string Johnny up and give him a good beating.
Just then, the delivery room door opened again, and a nurse came out to speak to Willow, "Ms. Reed, she's fully dilated. Please come quickly."
Willow hurried back in.
In the hallway, the Hawkins family waited in silence.
No one brought up old grievances with Johnny at that moment; no one mentioned the unpleasant past. The waiting was long, and Kingsley even invited Johnny to go have a cigarette.
Johnny refused, raising a hand to stop him, "I quit smoking."
Kingsley snorted and went off alone.
In the delivery room, Willow and the nurses kept encouraging Lola. As she fully dilated, Lola's forehead was covered in sweat, but she bit her lip, refusing to cry out.
In her pain, she felt the overhead lights swaying.
Memories flooded back.
"Lola, let's have another baby."
"Lola, I won't make you sad anymore, and there won't be any more Shirley..."
But Johnny, it's too late. The image of you kissing Shirley is something I'll never forget. In her dazed pain, Lola's face was wet with tears; she probably felt very angry with him.. At the moment the baby was born, she let out an unconscious scream, filled with agony and sorrow!
Stella was born at 10:10 in the morning, a perfect time.
"She's beautiful! Looks like her mom."
The nurse quickly cleaned the baby and brought her to Lola. Lola's forehead was still sweaty, her hair sticking to her skin, but she turned to gaze tenderly at the baby.
She was indeed beautiful.
Lola couldn't help but feel joy.
She looked at the baby gently, but her face grew paler. Willow noticed something was wrong, lifted the white sheet, and urgently said, "Prepare the blood plasma, start the transfusion! The mother is hemorrhaging."
As she spoke, Lola had already lost consciousness.
Time was critical, and Willow and the nurses worked frantically. Outside, the family knew something was wrong.
Frederick grabbed someone and asked, "What's happening?"
The obstetrician brought out a form for him to sign, briefly explaining, "She's hemorrhaging, we're already giving her a transfusion. Frederick, don't worry, we have plenty of blood plasma."
Frederick didn't waste a second, even though he was anxious.
He quickly signed the form.
His hand shook as he signed, and Charlotte gently supported his arm, giving him strength.
Willow didn't waste any time either, going back into the delivery room. After a while, a nurse brought Stella out, a cute baby that made everyone's eyes well up.
They were both happy and angry at Johnny.
Johnny's face was pale, his fingers trembling as he gently touched Stella, his eyes wet. Kingsley couldn't hold back and muttered, "If only your love had been more understanding, you and Laura wouldn't have ended up in this situation.Do you know how much pain Lola went through to have this baby?"
He always knew that, but back then, he was like a madman, thinking that having a baby would keep Lola. Now he knew, even ten babies wouldn't keep her, it would only make him lose her.
"I'm sorry! Dad, Mom, I'm so sorry."
Charlotte couldn't bear to listen. As a woman, she could empathize with Lola the most.
Frederick swallowed hard and said, ‘What’s the point of discussing this now?’
He waited anxiously.
The Hawkins family all waited anxiously, waiting for Lola to be safe.
*
After an hour of emergency treatment, Lola's bleeding was stopped, and she received a lot of blood plasma.
But she remained unconscious.
When she was moved to the VIP room, she vaguely heard Frederick and Charlotte talking, and the sound of the baby crying.
Her fingers moved slightly.
It was evening when she finally woke up, opening her eyes to see Charlotte's concerned face.
"Mom! Where's the baby?" Lola's voice was hoarse.
Frederick quickly brought Stella over for Lola to see, "Look, she looks so much like you."
Lola turned to look at the adorable baby beside her pillow, unable to resist gently touching her. Stella suddenly scrunched up her face and started crying.
It turned out her diaper was wet.
Frederick didn't want Charlotte to tire herself, so he quickly took Stella, efficiently changing her diaper and cleaning her with warm water. He said, "Lola, I never took care of you like this when you were little."
Lola had spent two years in a lab when she was little.
She smiled faintly.
She didn't remember much from that time, only that she slept a lot, but there was a handsome man who came to see her from time to time. He would press his face against the incubator and talk to her, watching her. His face always showed longing and regret.
Just like... just like Johnny now.
Thinking of him, Lola's expression darkened.
A father knows his daughter best, and Frederick saw her thoughts. He softly said, "He's outside. He said he wants to see you and Stella."
