Chapter 383 The Price of Saving Charlotte

Frederick gently patted her hand.

He softly said, "That day I prayed to God, and now I'm here to tell God the good news!"

Charlotte was momentarily at a loss for words.

At this moment, Patrick walked over.

He said to Frederick, "You can start now!"

Frederick had Charlotte sit aside, and he followed Patrick. The Hawkins family, men and women, young and old, prayed in unison.

By the time they finished, it was already four in the afternoon.

Frederick took Charlotte to meet the astrologer alone.

The astrologer, with his wise eyes, looked at Charlotte and her rounded belly. "Very good!"

Charlotte smiled faintly.

In private, the astrologer was very easygoing and spoke freely.

He smiled and said, "I rarely see a man as persistent as Frederick. Perhaps that night, Frederick moved God!"

He didn't say much else.

Looking at the sunset hanging over the mountains through the window, the astrologer said, "Dusk is so beautiful."

Frederick agreed.

The astrologer smiled slightly and made a gesture. "Frederick, you may leave now."

Frederick helped Charlotte up.

He bowed slightly. "Sorry to have disturbed you."

The astrologer said nothing.

Frederick didn't say more, and he left with Charlotte. As they walked out, the sunset painted the sky a fiery red.

Inside the room, the astrologer remained motionless, only his face showing some expression.

The disciple knelt on the ground, crying softly, "Why do you defy fate?"

"Get up!"

The young disciple didn't rise, still crying.

The astrologer, eyes fixed on the sunset, said slowly, "My fate is deserved! Seeing Frederick is like seeing my younger self. I hid here to avoid it, but I'm no wiser than Frederick."

A hint of relief appeared on the astrologer's face.

He didn't help Frederick; he was just seeking his own release!

The bell tolled!

The astrologer passed away!

The Hawkins family was heading down the mountain.

Patrick and Frederick exchanged a glance, guessing the reason. They rushed back, and the disciple conveyed the astrologer's last words, "The astrologer said he wanted to thank Frederick."

The Hawkins family was slightly stunned.

Back home, their hearts were still heavy.

Frederick smoked in the study.

Charlotte knew he was in a bad mood, so she made his favorite food and brought it to him.

She took away his cigarette.

Frederick slowly raised his eyes, looking at her, and said in a low voice, "The astrologer probably foresaw the outcome before he helped me."

Charlotte felt sad too.

She walked over and gently hugged Frederick.

He rarely showed vulnerability and wasn't used to appearing weak in front of his wife, but today was an exception.

"Frederick," Charlotte spoke softly. "I guess the astrologer had something on his mind and it was suppressed for many years."

She choked up a bit. "The astrologer must have had a beloved girl when he was young."

Frederick held her waist.

Charlotte cupped his handsome face and kissed him. "Frederick, I feel as bad as you do! But our purpose in living should be to live better, or we would be letting the astrologer down."

Frederick said, "I didn't know you could be so comforting!"

Charlotte gently stroked his warm neck and said softly, "Eat something. You haven't eaten much all day! And, does your leg hurt?"

Frederick shook his head.

He said it didn't hurt.

But Charlotte knew that his leg was left with a lasting ailment after that snowy night.

She wanted to massage it for him.

Frederick wouldn't let her. He looked at Charlotte. "I was terrible in the past, causing you to never be able to be a pianist again. Now my leg has problems too; consider it my compensation to you."

Charlotte was a bit angry.

He never cared about his leg injury was because of this?

"Frederick, I don't want this kind of compensation! You are my husband, the father of our four children. If your leg has problems, how will you hold me and the kids?"

Frederick's gaze deepened.

Charlotte lay on his leg, whispering, "I really don't want this kind of compensation! If your leg hurts, all I feel is heartache; what else can I get?"

He said softly, "Charlotte, I'm afraid you won't be happy."

He had regained his memory and wasn't sure if their feelings were still the same in Charlotte's heart, so he did it on purpose, but Charlotte easily saw through it.

"Mrs. Hawkins, you're too smart."

Charlotte didn't say much more.

She just leaned against him gently and whispered, "Frederick, I hope when we grow old, we won't have the same regrets as the astrologer! As long as we love each other, we should express it."

Frederick was quite moved.

He agreed.

Charlotte made him finish his meal and then prepared to give him a hot compress.

Frederick wanted to joke with her, but the astrologer's passing weighed on his mind, so he just smiled faintly.

Late at night, when Charlotte fell asleep, Frederick took out a photo from the drawer.

It looked like Charlotte, but it wasn't.

It was a young girl from many years ago, very bright and beautiful. On closer inspection, it was Adeline, Andrew and Victoria's mother.

That night, the astrologer agreed to help but also asked Frederick for a favor.

He asked Frederick to return the photo to that person in Copenhegan. The astrologer also said he had wronged someone, and saving Charlotte was just repaying his past mistakes.

Frederick thought he should make a trip to Copenhegan.

He didn't plan to let Charlotte know about this, just as the astrologer wished, to let the past be like the wind.

Late at night, Frederick returned to the bedroom.

Charlotte was not asleep.

He walked to the bedside, leaned over, and kissed her forehead. "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Charlotte gently hugged his waist. "Frederick, I'm afraid. I'm afraid this is a dream! When I wake up, you won't be by my side."
