Chapter 550 Lola Just Left Him Like That!
Johnny saw that shirt and was a bit taken aback.
He didn't say anything for a while.
Lola glanced at the red stain and, instead of asking more questions, softly said, "It's dirty! Let's just toss it!"
"Okay," Johnny replied with a faint smile.
Lola gently threw it into the trash and went back to her tasks, like the whole thing was no big deal.
Johnny watched her quietly. After a bit, he walked over and gently hugged her. "You should rest! You're pregnant; don't overdo it."
Lola didn't resist, letting him carry her to the bedroom.
He set her down on the bed, looking like he wanted to kiss her, but he didn't.
Lola looked at him.
Johnny gently touched her cheek, his voice rough. "Get some sleep."
"What about you?"
"I've got some things to finish up."
After a long pause, Lola softly said, "You've been really busy lately. Trying to get everything done before the wedding?"
Johnny didn't answer, just kept stroking her hair.
Lola whispered, "Go ahead and be busy."
She pulled back the covers and lay down, turning her face to the other side of the bed. "Johnny, turn off the light; it's too bright."
Johnny leaned over and turned off the light.
He looked at her profile and called her name, "Lola."
Lola responded with a soft hum.
After a moment of silence, Johnny slowly got up and walked out of the bedroom.
In the dim room, Lola opened her eyes.
She couldn't sleep; she spent the night counting the minutes, listening to how long Johnny smoked in the study while she lay awake.
She only fell asleep at dawn, but when she woke up, he was gone.
Lola sat on the bed, dazed.
She could smell breakfast and the faint scent of blood from last night.
Lola numbly picked up her phone and dialed his number. It rang for about half a minute before Johnny answered, his voice gentle. "Awake?"
Lola said calmly, "Off to the office so early?"
There was a brief pause before he replied, "Not really! I have a business meeting. Remember to eat breakfast! I have to go now."
Lola hung up silently. Her hand dropped, and she sat there in a daze for a long time. When she finally came to her senses, her cheeks were wet with tears.
Before calling Travis, Lola hesitated. She knew what Travis wanted. But she still asked because she cared, because she couldn't accept it.
When Travis answered, he seemed to know what she wanted to ask and said directly, "You guessed it?"
He chuckled lightly. "Lola, now you've seen the true nature of men! You look down on me, but Johnny's no different! No, he's different. If I had you, I wouldn't care about anyone else."
Lola coldly interrupted him, "Which hospital is Melissa in?"
Travis sneered. "Can't afford a private detective?"
"I don't want to spend that money! Aren't you just waiting for my call?"
Travis said approvingly, "True! Melissa is in the private VIP section of Sunshine Hospital, paid for by Johnny."
Lola hung up immediately. She got out of bed, washed up, and ate her breakfast quietly.
She changed into a set of clothes and drove out, just like usual, but this time she headed to Sunshine Hospital.
The traffic was a nightmare, and the car radio was blaring some story Lola didn't even catch.
Half an hour later, she pulled into the hospital parking lot and spotted Johnny's black sports car.
She didn't need to go inside to see her future husband tangled up with Melissa.
Through the glass window, she saw Melissa in Johnny's passenger seat, her tired face leaning into his arms. Johnny looked like he wanted to push her away but couldn't bring himself to do it.
They sat there quietly, like lovers caught in a moment.
Lola looked down at her hands gripping the steering wheel so tight her knuckles were white.
Even though she had suspected it, seeing it still hurt like hell. She felt sick to her stomach.
All she wanted was a simple, honest relationship, a man who was truly hers, but Johnny couldn't give her that.
When Melissa lost Travis and everything else, Johnny remembered he was her first love.
He pitied her and took care of her, forgetting that he had once betrayed Lola for being Melissa's first love.
Lola mocked herself, thinking it was her own fault.
She had loved Johnny for over 20 years, and now she realized all her pretense of generosity was pointless; it wasn't worth it.
They were engaged and had a child on the way, but it still couldn't keep him faithful.
Lola didn't confront them. She just calmly started the car and left.
Her car was high-performance, and even the engine purred soft.
She drove right past Johnny's car. Melissa's arm blocked his view, and Lola just drove away. In that last glance, her eyes were glistening with tears.
Lola went back to the apartment without packing any luggage; she just grabbed her passport and documents. She had multiple visas and could fly anytime.
That afternoon, she flew to Azurea Empire. At the airport, she called her family to let them know she was safe, then told her dad, "I'm canceling the wedding with Johnny."
Frederick was shocked. He quickly asked why, but Lola just said calmly, "We're not right for each other! Dad, the plane's about to take off! Bye!"
She hung up and walked through the gate.
Frederick stared at the phone in disbelief, then immediately called Johnny. As soon as Johnny picked up, Frederick yelled, "Johnny, what the hell is going on? Why is Lola canceling the wedding? What did you do? Are you seeing someone else?"
Johnny was stunned, instinctively saying no. But then he saw Melissa's coat in his car. Lola had seen it.
Johnny started to panic, his voice tightening. "Dad, keep Lola there!"
Frederick said coldly, "She's already gone! I don't know where she went!"
The phone slipped from Johnny's hand and hit the car floor with a thud, the screen cracking on impact.
He frantically drove back to the apartment, nearly breaking down the door. Everything inside was just as it had been. Even the breakfast he had made for her was half-eaten, and there was half a glass of milk left, just like always.
He ran to the bedroom and the dressing room. Her things were all there. Except for her documents and passport. On the bedside table lay a small, shiny object: the diamond ring he had given her.
Johnny was losing it.
He frantically dialed her number, but each time, he got the same result: her phone was off. Desperate, he called her secretary to find out where she had gone.
The secretary said she had booked a ticket to Azurea Empire but didn't know the exact location.
Johnny quickly booked a ticket on the same flight, but he was more than ten hours behind Lola. At the airport, he had a half-hour call with Frederick, during which he spilled everything about Melissa.
Frederick listened in silence and then hung up.
At the airport, Johnny sat dejectedly on a chair, staring at his phone, hoping Lola might call him, even if it was just to yell at him or break up with him.
But she didn't. She left without a word, only telling Frederick to cancel the engagement, not wanting to say a single word to him.
Johnny tilted his head back slightly, holding back tears. He had no feelings for Melissa. As Travis had guessed, he just didn't want to see a woman lose her uterus and then her life.
He had briefly helped Melissa and comforted her.
This help and comfort cost him Lola. Looking back now, he realized she had found out that night.
If he had confessed at the time, would there have been another chance?
In the countless nights over the next three years, Johnny asked himself this question more than once. That night, he should have told Lola.
Johnny chased her to Azurea Empire.
He couldn't get any news about Lola. A week later, Lola flew to Torontow, and he chased her there.
And so, in the following six months, Lola frequently flew from place to place, and Johnny could never catch up with her, always a step behind.
Six months later, Lola stopped flying and stayed in Novaria. But she couldn't be found.
Johnny had business to attend to back in Syeattel, so he returned to handle company matters. When he was ready to fly back to Novaria, he calculated that Lola was already eight and a half months pregnant.
The night before his flight, he stayed in Lola's apartment.
He couldn't sleep at all. For the past six months, Johnny had only been able to sleep about three hours a day. Even sleeping pills didn't work.
He sat on the bed, with a box next to him containing the wedding dress their family had chosen for her.
Their wedding had not been canceled.
That day, Johnny rushed back from abroad and stood alone in the church to complete their wedding. When the white doves flew up, he looked up and tears fell.
He didn't know where she was; he hadn't heard her voice in a long time.
He didn't even know if he could ever see her again in this lifetime, as she had left so resolutely, not wanting him or even their home!
Johnny gently stroked the wedding dress.
His longing for her had almost turned into hatred; she had left without even listening to an explanation.
How was she and the baby now?
Was she planning never to forgive him for the rest of her life?
His phone rang in his pocket. Johnny didn't want to answer, but the phone kept ringing persistently, as if it wouldn't stop until he picked up.
Finally, Johnny answered.
The person on the other end hesitated for a long time before speaking, "Johnny, I'm from the Sunshine Blood Bank! A week ago, Miss Hawkins transferred all the blood from the blood bank and airlifted it to Novaria."
Transferred all the blood from the blood bank?
Johnny went nuts, demanding to know where in Novaria the blood was sent.
But the person on the other end didn't know, only saying it was sent to the airport and handed over to someone there.
Johnny hung up and rushed to the airport.
He quickly arranged for a private jet and flew to Novaria. He bought out all the major screens and media to search for Lola, spending a fortune, but she still seemed to have vanished from the world.
A week later, Johnny got a call from Frederick.
The call was brief, only telling him that Lola had given birth to a daughter named Angelina Hawkins.
Johnny was stunned, holding his phone in the night wind.
After a long time, he trembled and asked, "Dad, where is Lola?"
Frederick shook his head. His voice was very low. "I don't know! Johnny, come back and live a normal life; give Lola and yourself a way out!"
Johnny held his phone in silence, stubbornly refusing to give up on Lola.
Frederick could only sigh, feeling very sad, "You know her personality!"
In fact, Lola had already given all her tolerance to Johnny. She was such a stubborn person, yet she had always made exceptions for him!
After hanging up the phone, Johnny sat by the river, silently smoking.
He looked up at the starry sky.
The night sky in Novaria was very bright, with twinkling stars. He thought with a bittersweet feeling, 'I have a daughter now, named Angelina!'
Was it painful for Lola to give birth to Angelina?
With no family around, was she very lonely and scared?
He remembered Frederick's words. He said to let go, to give himself and Lola a way out, but if he let go, could he still live?
Johnny didn't know.
He returned to Syeattel in February.
He thought that if he came back and stopped searching, Lola would eventually return. So he waited for her to change her mind and come back.
But he waited day by day, month by month, year by year, and Lola never came back. Occasionally, he would hear news about her. Even the photo of Angelina was secretly shown to him by Molly behind Gavin's back. She was a very cute little girl, looking like Lola, with blonde hair. The two-year-old girl looked at the camera, smiling happily.
Johnny's eyes turned red, gently touching the photo, his voice hoarse. "Can I have this photo?"
Molly nodded.
Johnny took the photo and looked at it in his palm for a long time.
Molly looked at him and felt he had changed.
Over the years, Johnny had lost a lot of weight and didn't talk much.
Every week he would come back to see Frederick and Charlotte, but each time he would leave after dropping off things, not staying long. Today, he stayed a bit longer because it was Charlotte's birthday.
Feeling sorry for him, Molly secretly gave him the photo of Angelina.
At that moment, Gavin came downstairs and saw the photo in Johnny's hand. He looked at Molly, and she immediately felt guilty.
Johnny gently put the photo away and said softly, "Thank you!"
And he still left.
Gavin watched him leave and after a long time asked Molly, "Didn't he ask anything?"
"No! Even if he did, I wouldn't dare say!"
Over the years, Molly was still under Gavin's ''control.''
Gavin didn't say much about the photo.
Molly secretly relaxed.
On the way home, Gavin got into the car and slowly said, "Actually, you'll see her soon! Lola is coming back next week."
