Chapter 55 Rivals in Love Meet

Charlotte looked stunned. Frederick casually draped an arm around her shoulder and asked, "How'd you end up bringing wine to a coffee shop?"

Charlotte's mood lifted a bit. She didn't hide anything and softly replied, "Ran into some acquaintances and chatted for a bit."

Frederick's blue eyes locked onto hers, then shifted to the 'acquaintance' behind her. "Oh, it's Ethan," he said, his tone indifferent.

Ethan, on the other hand, looked tense. He wasn't dumb; he knew Frederick didn't like him, not just because of Chloe but probably because of Charlotte too.

The two men locked eyes, the atmosphere thick with tension.

Charlotte gently tugged on Frederick's arm and whispered, "Let's go back."

Frederick nodded, breaking his gaze.

Just then, Daisy walked out of the coffee shop and greeted them warmly, "Frederick!"

She seemed to just notice Charlotte with him and said in surprise, "Charlotte, why are you with Frederick? Weren't you with Ethan...?" She trailed off, hesitant.

The effect was perfect. Any other guy might have taken it out on Charlotte, but not Frederick. He wasn't about to be misled by a scheming woman.

He tossed his laptop bag to Charlotte and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. As he lit one, he said nonchalantly, "Ethan had a girlfriend? I heard from Chloe that Ethan and she were each other's first love."

Daisy's expression turned awkward. She quickly said, "I meant that Charlotte's father is an accountant at the Cooper Group."

"Really?" Frederick exhaled a puff of smoke and flicked the ash. "I thought Ethan had dated Charlotte and then dumped her, being a heartless guy!"

Daisy felt very awkward.

Ethan spoke up calmly, "Frederick, you're overthinking it! Miss Russell and I never had a past, nor will we have a future."

Frederick smiled. He used the hand holding the cigarette to ruffle Charlotte's hair. "That puts my mind at ease!"

Charlotte thought he was cheeky, but he had helped her. She looked up at him. Frederick was naturally handsome, exuding maturity and confidence. She couldn't help but feel a bit softer towards him.

Ethan had been with her for four years and knew her looks all too well. Charlotte liked Frederick.

Ethan stood straight and said coolly to Daisy, "Let's go!"

Daisy, with a complex expression, pulled Jenny along as they left. Jenny, unwilling to give up, threw a fit once they got in the car. "Mom, why didn't we expose Charlotte? Isn't Frederick our relative? He would definitely side with us!"

Daisy told her to shut up. "Do you think being relatives puts us on equal footing? Did you see Frederick's attitude? If he doesn't agree, the marriage between Frederick and Chloe might not even happen."

Jenny was stunned.

Daisy ignored her and looked at her son. "Ethan, you know how important this marriage is! No matter what you do outside, you can't touch Charlotte."

Ethan sat in the driver's seat, saying nothing.

Daisy knew he was strong-willed and didn't say anything more. She believed Ethan would figure it out. She thought, 'Besides, Ethan hadn't been that fond of Charlotte even after four years together. He was just feeling a bit uncomfortable now. He would gradually forget her after getting married. As for Charlotte and Frederick, that was absolutely impossible.'
