Chapter 759 Lola, I'm Sorry about What Happened Yestoday
Johnny watched as the message was successfully sent.
He felt a bit of regret in his heart, yet it also seemed like he didn't regret it at all. He wasn't sure what the future held for him and Lola, but he couldn't ignore the kids' feelings.
He had been lost in his own world for too long and neglected them.
But he also knew what this meant. It meant that Lola would discover the truth about his leg one day. He didn't know how she would react, but Johnny thought he should have a choice. When he decided to let her go, it was for real. There was no reason to tie her down for life because of his leg.
Felicity noticed his bad mood and guessed it had something to do with Lola.
So after the doctor finished, she saw him out. When she returned, she heard Johnny say in a calm voice, "Find me a woman."
Felicity was taken aback," Find a woman?"
Johnny was a normal man, but with his leg injury and his pride, what if things didn't go well with a woman?
She didn't respond for a long time.
Johnny frowned, "What are you thinking? Find me someone with some status, whatever conditions she wants, for two years."
Felicity had been with him for many years and could guess his intentions.
She hesitated before asking, "Mr. Flores, do you want someone to pretend to be your girlfriend?"
Johnny didn't say anything.
He just gently stroked the armrest of the sofa, silently thinking,' Two years should be enough.'
By then, whatever unforgettable things happened between him and Lola, they would be at peace with it.
The Hawkins Mansion.
Lola quietly looked at Johnny's message for a long time. She thought about their encounter earlier that day and the sarcastic remark he made.
If he could come to terms with it, Lola would feel more at ease.
She thought that she would tell Angelina and Austin in the morning. They would be happy.
It was late, and Lola's bedtime had long passed, but she stood on the balcony, unmoving. She had stood in this spot many years ago, and Johnny had stood on his bedroom balcony, gazing at her.
Back then, he had just returned from abroad.
They weren't together yet.
Lola looked down and smiled bitterly. Dwight had asked her today if she still loved Johnny. She didn't answer, but now, in the quiet of the night, she couldn't lie to herself. Some feelings, once touched, last a lifetime.
But she didn't want to love him anymore.
Lola looked at the opposite balcony but didn't push open the connecting door.
She slowly turned and walked back into her bedroom.
The next day was a weekend.
Angelina ran over early to see Stella. She leaned over the crib, watching Stella, and couldn't resist picking her up.
She was young and struggled to hold her.
But Stella didn't mind at all. She waved her little arms, trying to hug Angelina, showing a few white teeth as she smiled.
Angelina kissed her as if she was kissing a doll.
Stella laughed happily.
Lola came out of the bathroom just in time to see Angelina reluctantly putting Stella back. Knowing Lola was going on a business trip, she said, "Mom, while you're away, Austin and I will take good care of Stella."
Lola sat on the bed and pulled Angelina into her arms.
In the past six months, Angelina hadn't seen her much, so she leaned on Lola with some dependence.
Lola gently stroked Angelina's head and said softly, "Later, Mom will take you and Austin to Dad's."
Angelina was stunned.
After a moment, she suppressed her joy and asked in disbelief, "Really?"
Lola kissed her, "Of course! Go tell Austin and pack your things. I'll take you over soon."
Angelina really missed Johnny. Although they often talked on the phone, it wasn't the same as seeing him.
She ran a few steps and then turned back, her face flushed, "Can I take Stella too?"
Lola thought for a moment and replied, "If Cindy goes with you, it should be fine."
Angelina happily ran out to tell Austin the good news. Austin, as usual, acted indifferent, though he was clearly pleased.
When Lola drove them over, she couldn't help but tease Austin a bit.
Austin initially felt a bit embarrassed, but later he saw Lola's expression of pure joy. She looked so confident and radiant, and none of the other moms of his classmates could compare. He couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
He thought that this kind of mom was great.
If Lola was happy, he was happy too. He was willing to forgive Johnny for now.
An hour later, Lola's car pulled into Johnny's villa.
It was still the same house, the same scenery. As she got out, Lola saw the maple grove at the side of the villa, still a tender green in spring.
Angelina and Austin had already opened the car doors.
The two kids stood outside, not going in immediately.
Lola took Stella out, and Cindy carried the baby supplies.
Lola gently asked, "Why aren't you going in?"
Austin replied, "Dad doesn't seem to be home."
Just as he finished speaking, someone came out of the villa. It was Felicity.
Johnny asked Felicity to stay; after all, the household staff couldn't match Felicity's sharpness. He worried they would say something wrong.
It had been over half a year since Felicity had seen Lola.
Now, with an old friend returning, she felt a wave of emotion, her eyes welling up, but she held back. "Ms. Hawkins, Mr. Flores had too much to drink last night, and his gout has flared up. He's resting upstairs..."
She spoke as if she wanted to say more but hesitated.
Lola understood and nodded. "Alright, I'll leave the kids with him. I need to catch a flight later."
Felicity realized she had misunderstood but didn't know how to clarify.
She took Stella's luggage and led everyone upstairs. As Lola stepped back into the house, her feelings were complicated; the last time she was here, it was to retrieve some documents, and she disagreed with Johnny.
So much time had passed.
Lola composed herself and calmly ascended the stairs. An old servant saw her and naturally called her Mrs. Flores. Lola gently shook her head. "Please call me Ms. Hawkins."
The servant looked a bit nervous, realizing the mistake.
Felicity walked alongside them, saying, "Ms. Hawkins, please don't mind. The staff here hasn't changed, and they still remember the good times you had."
Lola certainly didn't hold it against them; she smiled lightly.
When they reached the second floor, Johnny was indeed home, and his gout was acting up. He wore dark loungewear and was lounging on the sofa, looking lazy.
When Felicity brought them in, he lifted his gaze and immediately spotted Lola.
His gaze was deep.
Lola met his gaze, and for a long moment, they were locked in silence. Finally, Johnny's voice was hoarse as he said, "I'm sorry about what happened yesterday."
Lola stared at him.
After a while, she bent down and placed Stella in his arms. As she leaned closer, he caught a whiff of her hair's faint scent—both intoxicating and heart-wrenching.
In his arms, Stella was being good, her big eyes wide open.
Lola quietly asked, "Why do you keep getting gout? You never had this problem before."
