Chapter 90 She Really Loved Frederick
"Ms. Garcia?" Charlotte guessed it was Director Bernice Garcia from the music center. Bernice had always looked out for her, and an invite from her was hard to turn down.
Charlotte called back. Bernice didn't say much, just laughed. "I'll share some good news over lunch."
Charlotte was curious.
With a couple of hours until lunch, Charlotte decided to measure the living room curtains and snap some photos of the apartment. She planned to hit up some furniture stores in the afternoon.
At noon, she met Bernice at a restaurant. Bernice loved spicy food, so Charlotte joined her, soon breaking a sweat.
As they were finishing up, Bernice got to the point. "You know, Tina's been boycotted by the parents."
Charlotte was shocked. "How? Just a few days ago, she seemed to be getting along great with them."
Bernice gave a knowing smile. "Charlotte, do you really not know, or are you just pretending?"
Charlotte's face turned serious. After a pause, she asked, "Does this have something to do with me?"
Bernice didn't mince words. "It's more about the famous Mr. Hawkins. He went to a class reunion with you, and it went really well! Now, those parents want to get close to Frederick through you."
She shrugged. "They're pushing to replace Tina and have you teach their kids."
Relationships could be so fickle. Charlotte smiled faintly.
Bernice, understanding her thoughts, said, "You don't have to come back if you don't want to. I wouldn't want to deal with this either! Anyway, Tina's out at the music center. I heard someone can't stand her. She's crying and pleading in the big boss's office right now!"
Charlotte guessed who it was.
She had broken up with Ethan, but he still managed to worm his way into her life. However, Charlotte's heart was now unswayable.
Bernice wisely didn't pry further about Charlotte's relationship with Frederick.
After lunch, Bernice had to return to deal with the mess Tina had caused, so she left quickly.
Charlotte composed herself. She didn't want to dwell on the past. No matter what Ethan thought, she couldn't let him affect her anymore. She needed to forget about him completely.
Charlotte took a cab to the furniture store.
She chose rich Baroque-style fabrics, ordered a set of floor-to-ceiling drapes, and picked out two blue vases, one large and one small, to match the colors.
Just these items cost her a lot.
Charlotte didn't feel bad about spending the money. She thought the Morning Dew deserved the best.
The manager swiped her card and respectfully offered a small gift. "Miss Russell, we'll deliver and install the items by 4 PM. Please rest assured."
Charlotte smiled. She wandered around a bit more, picked up some nice lace tablecloths and decorations. Finding things she liked put her in a great mood, and she sent a message to let Frederick know she wouldn't be home until after 6 PM.
Frederick quickly replied: [Okay, Miss Russell.]
Looking at those simple words, Charlotte felt a gentle stir in her heart. She thought she really did love Frederick a bit.
She didn't feel ashamed.
It's perfectly normal for a woman to love a man like Frederick.
Back at the apartment, the installation crew quickly set up the drapes, and the effect was even better than Charlotte had imagined.
Paired with the Morning Dew piano, it was stunning.
Charlotte arranged fresh flowers in the vases and placed the beautiful lace tablecloths where they belonged. The whole apartment changed quite a bit, becoming much cozier.
The doorbell rang.
Charlotte thought it was the installation crew returning, so she immediately went to open the door, but standing there was Frederick.
Charlotte blushed slightly. "You have a key. Why did you ring the doorbell?"
Frederick wrapped his arm around her waist and pressed her against the cabinet by the door.
