Chapter 227 Can you keep me company
Charlotte laughed and shook her head, "No way!"
She paused for a sec, then started talking about Cici, her voice softening, "Lily, I know I shouldn't, but I just can't help wanting to look after that kid! She looks so much like her."
Lily thought it was weird too. How could there be such a crazy coincidence?
There was a kid, and she didn't have a mom.
Lily thought it was a bit sketchy and said, "You must be missing Lola too much! Charlotte, give it another shot. Maybe there's someone out there for you!"
It had been three years, and Charlotte was still single.
Lily felt kinda bad and worried.
But Charlotte wasn't stressing. Just as she was about to say something, her phone buzzed.
It was the same number from last night, but it was Cici calling, her voice all sweet and sticky. "Ms. Russell, I miss you so much!"
Charlotte's face softened right away. "I miss you too!"
Lola kept being cute. "I wanna see you!"
Charlotte hesitated.
Meeting a student outside of school days was against the rules. She held back for a long time before reluctantly saying, "We'll see each other on Friday, okay?"
Lola sounded super bummed. She didn't cry, just said softly, "Daddy's not home! I'm so lonely by myself. Ms. Russell, can you keep me company?"
Charlotte's heart melted instantly.
Lily, who was next to her, heard it too and felt the same!
Sure enough, Charlotte was already asking where she was.
Lola giggled. "Ms. Russell, look outside!"
Charlotte was surprised. She held her phone and looked outside the café, only to see a stretch Lincoln parked at the entrance, with the rear door open.
Cici was sitting inside the car. Wearing a little dress, she looked at Charlotte sweetly and obediently.
Charlotte immediately stood up, "Lily, I gotta go!"
Lily was stunned.
This looked like a setup, and Charlotte was falling for it.
Charlotte got into the car.
For some reason, she felt a familiar male scent in the car, a faint smell of tobacco mixed with pine.
As she frowned, Lola had already climbed onto her lap.
The driver in the front smiled. "Ms. Russell, Lola wants a kids' meal. I'll take you there!"
Charlotte immediately thanked him. When she looked down, Lola was already hugging her, afraid she would run away.
Charlotte felt a softness in her heart.
This little kid must have lacked parental companionship growing up.
She thought of Lola's dad and felt even more unreliable, thinking he must be out there fooling around with women, leaving the kid at home alone.
The Lincoln stopped.
Lola pulled Charlotte out of the car, eagerly walking into the fried chicken joint.
Charlotte thought it wasn't good for the kid to eat too much junk, so she carefully picked items with fewer hormones, her expression particularly gentle as she made her choices.
Lola propped her little head, looking satisfied. 'Mommy is so beautiful!'
Later, while Lola was munching on fried chicken, Charlotte took care of her attentively, and Lola thought, 'This is what it feels like to have a Mommy!'
She felt things were moving too slowly by calling Charlotte 'Ms. Russell' every day; when would she come to her house, sleep with her and her dad by this rate?
Lola squeezed hard. Her big eyes immediately filled with tears.
She tugged on Charlotte's sleeve, looking pitiful. "Ms. Russell, can you be my Mommy?"
Charlotte was visibly stunned.
Lola got off her chair and snuggled up to her, her voice full of grievance. "Daddy is very busy, and many ladies are after him, wanting to date him! Daddy is very handsome, and many people want to be my Mommy. Ms. Russell, do you want to be my Mommy?"
Charlotte thought, 'Cici's Dad is such a player!'
She felt really bad for the kid and patted her gently. "But you can't just pick a Mommy on your own!"
Lola snuggled into her arms, flashing a small smile. "But Daddy said, if I like a woman, she can be my Mommy! Ms. Russell, can you be my Mommy for the parent-teacher meeting next week?"
Charlotte let out a sigh of relief. So that's what it was. She had totally overthought it!
She figured she still needed to get the dad's okay, after all, Cici was his kid.
She said softly, "I'll talk to your Daddy about it."
After her little performance, Lola happily went back to munching on her fried chicken. After eating, she actually wanted to crash at Charlotte's place, but even her cutest act didn't work.
Honestly, this was already pushing it for Charlotte.
Even though she was Cici's teacher, she was still basically a stranger. Cici's Dad was really dropping the ball, letting his daughter hang out with a stranger without a second thought.
She decided she needed to have a serious talk with him.
At 8 PM, Charlotte dropped the kid back home.
When she got home, she called and asked Cici to have her Dad get on the phone.
Lola lay on her pink little bed, her tummy round and full, super satisfied. She took the call and handed the phone to Frederick, smiling. "Ms. Russell wants to talk to you."
How could Frederick answer?
If he revealed who he was now, Charlotte would probably freak out and then sue him for custody.
He needed some buffer time to make her not want to leave Lola and to give them more time to bond.
He hung up the phone, took his cell to his bedroom, and sent Charlotte a message, saying he was in a video conference.
Charlotte seriously talked about the kid's situation with him, finally hinting that as a dad, he should cut down on his dating time and spend more time with his kid.
Frederick chatted with her. That tone gave Charlotte a weird feeling! They sounded like a couple!
But he didn't stay serious for long before going back to his old ways, directly sending an invite: [Ms. Russell, I'd really like to meet you!]
The tone was pretty flirty.
Charlotte snapped out of her daydream and came back to reality.
This parent was always messing with her.
All his serious and not-so-serious words were just ways to flirt with women.
Charlotte was pretty ticked off!
She tried her best to hold back her temper, but finally couldn't resist sending a message: [Cici's Dad, I don't know if you talk to every woman like this, but it's not good for the kid's growth!]
Frederick looked at the message and smirked.
It seemed she was mad!
He tried to calm her down: [Ms. Russell, I'm sorry!]
Charlotte didn't reply, clearly very angry.
Frederick hadn't felt this way in a long time, he couldn't help but send another message: [Don't be mad, okay?]
Of course, Charlotte didn't reply.
Frederick looked at their message history, feeling a thrill he hadn't felt in a long time.
He missed her, and he wanted her.
For three years, he had been busy taking care of Lola and focusing on his career.
For three years, not only had there been no women around him, but he had also rarely even taken care of his own needs.
At this moment, just looking at Charlotte's messages made him feel quite restless!
Frederick couldn't help himself.
He tilted his chin slightly, his long eyes narrowing, his mind filled with images of him and Charlotte tangled up passionately. At the height of his desire, his Adam's apple bobbed uncontrollably, emitting a hoarse sound of longing.
