Chapter 54 Daisy and Jenny Come to Plead

Charlotte didn't hide anything. She'd cut ties with the Cooper family ages ago.

"I don't know. I was holding it for someone else," she said, looking indifferent.

Jenny couldn't hold back any longer. "Charlotte, you have no shame! Didn't you used to love Ethan the most? How long has it been, and now you're living with someone else? And that person is Ethan's brother-in-law. Are you doing this to get back at us?"

"Revenge?" Charlotte let out a cold laugh. "It's a miracle I survived Ethan's torment. How would I have the ability to get back at the Cooper family?"

Jenny was about to lose it again, but Daisy stopped her.

Daisy's tone was gentle, just like before. "Charlotte, you probably don't know. Ethan's company had some issues this morning! I heard Frederick is intentionally making things difficult for him."

Charlotte was stunned. Then she remembered Frederick's unusual behavior last night and what he had said earlier! She thought he was just flirting with her, but he actually did it. Such a man was undoubtedly charming. Just thinking about it made Charlotte excited, and she felt a sense of satisfaction that the Cooper family was finally having some bad luck.

Charlotte didn't soften. She looked down at her coffee and spoke calmly, "Then you should go ask Frederick or Chloe for help. Why come to me?"

Daisy smiled faintly. "Charlotte, I know you're smart and understand the situation! I also believe you're with Frederick out of necessity, but your true love is still our Ethan. I assure you..."

Charlotte couldn't listen to any more of this. It was too disgusting! She was so angry she almost laughed. "Mrs. Cooper, you're overthinking it. I have no feelings for Ethan anymore! I suggest you see a psychiatrist. How else could you think I would love someone who tried to ruin my life?"

She turned and left.

Jenny cursed from behind, "Charlotte, don't be ungrateful. I don't believe you don't love Ethan anymore! Isn't it your duty to help him?"

Charlotte stood there, feeling like even breathing was a dull pain! She thought, 'Yes! I had loved Ethan deeply and foolishly given my all. That's why you were so certain that even today, I should still do anything for Ethan without complaint. But that was long over! I'm a person, not a dead animal!'

Charlotte couldn't take it anymore and threw her unfinished coffee in Jenny's face. Jenny screamed in anger.

Charlotte coldly said, "Miss Cooper, you should learn from Mrs. Cooper how to ask for help properly!"

Jenny had never been treated like this before. She grabbed her coffee, intending to throw it at Charlotte, but a hand stopped her. It was Ethan. It was silent and everyone was watching them.

Ethan gritted his teeth and scolded Jenny, "Have you had enough?"

Witnessing Ethan's rare outburst, Jenny began crying in frustration. "Ethan, I'm doing this for your own good! Look at her. She's teamed up against you with someone else. Why are you still defending her?"

Charlotte didn't want to stay any longer and turned to leave.

Ethan called after her, his tone very calm. "Charlotte, I don't need your help."

Charlotte didn't say a word. She walked straight out, leaving her past behind, never to look back.

Daisy followed her, persistent and unwilling to let Charlotte go easily. "Charlotte, won't you reconsider our past?"

Charlotte was shaking with anger. Just then, a warm hand gently held hers, and another hand took the wine glass from her. Charlotte looked up in surprise and saw Frederick. She thought, 'It was only five in the afternoon. Why was he back already?'
