Chapter 183 Charlotte, Give Me a Chance
After Charlotte got out of the hospital, she flew to Vienner.
She stayed for a week, hung out with Bernice, but eventually, Bernice sent her back. "There's so much happening back home. You shouldn't just stay here with me. I'm doing great! There's sunshine, handsome guys, and the doctors are good-looking," Bernice said with a wink.
Charlotte smiled. "Alright, I'll head back then!"
Bernice drove her to the airport.
Before leaving, she held Charlotte's hand and whispered, "You've grown up! You're different now!"
Charlotte had just returned to her city.
Lily called, asking for gifts and inviting Charlotte to Bradley's birthday party.
Charlotte had just put down her luggage. Sitting on the couch in her small apartment, she smiled. "I have several gifts, but I think I'll skip the birthday party!"
Lily whispered, "Bradley didn't invite him!"
Charlotte knew who "him" referred to. After thinking for a moment, she agreed.
On Friday night, Charlotte went home to change into a dress and took a cab to the club.
The private room was already lively.
Most of the guests were Bradley's friends, but there were also a few of Lily's classmates, whom Charlotte knew.
Charlotte handed over the gift. It was a pair of watches, quite expensive, made in Vienner.
Lily was excited. "This is too expensive. Charlotte, you're too generous!"
She called Bradley over.
Bradley actually admired Charlotte a lot.
Charlotte could have married into a wealthy family, but she gave it up.
He had seen Frederick begging for reconciliation. If he were a woman, he wouldn't have been able to resist, but Charlotte had.
Bradley, with his arm around Lily's waist, said flatteringly, "I wasn't lying, was I? I said I didn't invite him, and I didn't. I can't stand him either!"
Charlotte smiled faintly. "Bradley, it would be better if you didn't mention him."
Bradley, trying to be funny, said, "I invited a lot of buddies today, all of them are good-looking. Charlotte, take your pick!"
Lily pinched his waist. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Bradley apologized and made a gesture, seating Charlotte next to Nicholas.
Charlotte didn't expect to meet Nicholas in such a setting.
But they were all adults now, and avoiding him would be petty. Charlotte greeted Nicholas graciously, "Long time no see, Nicholas."
Everyone in the circle knew about Charlotte and Frederick.
Nicholas looked at Charlotte's sharp little face, feeling a complex emotion. He couldn't forget the ten days he spent with Charlotte, nor the fireworks they watched together.
She was single again, but he was about to get married.
After a few words, Nicholas said hoarsely, "I'm getting married next month."
Charlotte offered her congratulations. "Congratulations, Nicholas!"
Nicholas felt bitter.
He had no feelings for his future wife, and the person he liked was right in front of him, but it was impossible for them.
He smiled faintly. "Thank you!"
After that, they didn't talk much. Charlotte quietly watched Bradley confess to Lily with Lily in his arms, watched others laugh and sing!
She envied Lily a bit, for daring to love and hate!
As for her, a past relationship had made her afraid to easily trust in love again.
Later, Robert came over and caused a scene.
He was drunk, holding a bottle, and started acting crazy, wanting to congratulate Bradley.
"Bradley! I don't envy you at all! You're holding Lily now, but I have Tina, and Tina is pregnant with my son! I'm in a good mood now. Life is great! No woman will ever control my drinking again, no woman will control me being with others. As long as I give Tina money, I can shut her up. At home, I still enjoy myself, and she serves me even while pregnant!"
Lily's face turned pale.
Robert stared into her eyes and said, "Tina's due in a few months. When are we getting the divorce papers? You better hurry and make room for her."
Lily coldly replied, "Don't worry. I have no attachment to that place of yours!"
Robert pointed at her. "Fine. We'll get it done when we have time! Whoever doesn't go is a jerk!"
Robert left.
Lily hid in the bathroom to cry. Charlotte wanted to comfort her but stopped at the door.
Through the slightly open door, she saw Bradley holding Lily and whispering, "Don't cry! Today is my birthday. Weren't we supposed to be happy?"
Charlotte didn't go in. She turned back, grabbed her purse, and prepared to leave early.
"I'll take you home!" Nicholas immediately stood up.
Charlotte gently shook her head. "No need! I can easily get a cab. Nicholas, you're getting married, so treat her well. Don't get entangled with others, or your wife will be unhappy."
As she spoke, her fair and delicate nose turned slightly red.
Perhaps, she was speaking from experience!
Nicholas realized this too and retracted his outstretched hand, smiling slightly. "I will! Take care on your way home!"
Charlotte nodded. "Tell Lily for me."
Feeling down, she thought about taking a walk after leaving, but as soon as she stepped out of the club, she saw a familiar SUV parked at the entrance. The person in the car jumped out as soon as he saw her.
It was Oliver! He was wearing dark blue jeans and a black leather jacket.
From the side, his long, straight legs were very attractive to girls.
Charlotte smiled. "Oliver, what are you doing here?"
Oliver walked up to her, his gaze deep. "I just got back from a business trip and found out you were here. How was it? Can I take you home?"
Charlotte looked at his young, handsome face. She knew Oliver's intentions.
He liked her and wanted to pursue her.
Charlotte thought for a moment and said, "Oliver, I don't want to get into a relationship right now. Don't waste your time."
A long, slender finger touched her lips.
Oliver's expression was more serious than ever. "Pursuing a girl can only be called romantic, not a waste. Charlotte, I know you don't want to talk about relationships right now, and you might never like me, but I want to try. I have to try. How will we know if we're a good match if we don't try?"
Charlotte looked up at him.
At this moment, Oliver seemed particularly mature and charming.
Oliver's voice was slightly hoarse. "I like you! I want to be with you! I'm not like Nicholas. My whole family likes you, and there's no obstacle between us. You just need to enjoy my pursuit! Charlotte, give me a chance!"
The night breeze lifted Charlotte's dress.
Standing together, they looked beautiful and romantic!
Oliver gently held her slender shoulders and slowly leaned in.
He wanted to kiss her.
Charlotte dodged, and his kiss landed on her nose, appearing intimate and ambiguous to onlookers.
Charlotte admitted that Oliver's proposal was tempting. A new relationship was indeed the best way to heal, but she didn't want to do it this way.
Oliver was a valued friend, and she didn't want to treat him lightly.
She softly said, "Oliver, can you give me some time to calm down?"
Oliver looked at her for a long time, then asked very softly, "So this isn't really a rejection, is it?"
Whatever Charlotte said was carried away by the wind.
Not far away, a golden Bentley was parked.
Frederick sat inside, quietly watching them. The streetlight cast shadows on his handsome face, revealing no emotion.
He watched Charlotte look at Oliver tenderly.
He watched Oliver open the car door and gracefully help Charlotte into the passenger seat.
He watched Charlotte sit in Oliver's car.
Had Charlotte accepted Oliver? Were they going to be together?
Frederick's car remained parked outside Charlotte's building all night.
