Chapter 596 Kingsley Receives $800,000

Amara stood in the rain outside his apartment, hoping to see him. But he got the wrong idea when he saw Ralph hugging her. He got super mad and treated her like crap while they were in bed. She thought he was going to propose, but then he handed her a check for $400,000 for one night and told her to buy birth control. That's when she realized he only saw her as a toy.

Kingsley suddenly hit the brakes.

The black Cullinan gleamed under the city's neon lights.

But he was in a foul mood.

He couldn't drive, his mind stuck on the image of Amara leaving in tears. He hadn't even let her shower or change, just used her for his own pleasure and then kicked her out.

It was 3:30 in the morning, and it was pouring.

How did she get home? Did she have any money on her?

He hadn't thought about it, because when he gave up on her, he stopped caring.

Kingsley leaned back, his Adam's apple bobbing. After a long pause, he grabbed his phone and called Rebecca. "Find her for me."

Rebecca's voice was groggy. "Okay!"

Rebecca used the Hawkins Group's connections to search all over Syeattel, including the hotel where Amara was staying.

She was thorough and found out from the receptionist that a distinguished gentleman had visited.

Rebecca paid $400 for the surveillance footage.

Stunned to see Maurice, she wondered how he had become entangled with Amara.

At 9 PM, Kingsley's car was parked by the roadside. He had no appetite and was waiting for news.

Rebecca's message came through. Besides the video, there was a note: [Mr. Hawkins, I found out that Amara's adoptive parents visited Stellaria City a few days ago. Ralph's mom even had a conflict with her, which is recorded at the police station! Coupled with Mr. Hughes' visit, I think it's related to her background. She might have been threatened, which is why she left you. I can't find where she is at the moment.]

Kingsley's face went pale.

He watched the video and read the note over and over.

Rebecca called, hesitantly asking, "Mr. Hawkins, do you need to delay your flight?"

Kingsley replied hoarsely, "Delay it for a week."

Rebecca sighed in relief.

Next, Kingsley used all his connections to find Amara.

He hadn't figured out what to say or how to handle things once he found her, given how messed up things were between them. But he knew he should at least make sure she was okay.

He knew he owed her an apology for offering money for sex and calling her worthless.

She was such a crybaby; she probably cried her eyes out when she left.

But even with all his connections, Kingsley still couldn't find Amara, which made Frederick curse him out over the phone for being useless and driving away the only daughter-in-law.

Kingsley was in a foul mood.

He didn't go back to the Hawkins Mansion but returned to that apartment.

When he opened the door, the smell of food hit him.

He was a bit stunned, then quickly walked to the kitchen, calling out "Amara," but it was just the Hawkins Mansion's maid in the kitchen.

The maid smiled and said, "Mrs. Hawkins was worried you wouldn't eat, so she sent me to make something nice for you. This lamb chop recipe was taught to me by Mrs. Hawkins, cooked with red wine."

Kingsley couldn't help but remember the time he and Amara went to the supermarket to buy lamb chops. That day, he spent all the money Amara had on her. She looked heartbroken.

The maid, not understanding, rubbed her hands and left after setting the food on the table.

Kingsley took off his coat and sat at the dining table.

He looked at the lamb chops, which were actually better than Amara's, but he still had no appetite. He took out his phone and silently dialed her number.

Amara's phone was still off.

Kingsley threw his phone on the table and didn't eat a single bite.

A week later, he still hadn't found Amara.

After taking a shower, he went to the guest room where they had sex that night.

Usually, he definitely wouldn't have sex with her in the guest room.

His disgust that night was evident, but Amara didn't notice. Even though he hurt her, she tried her best to please him.

Kingsley smiled bitterly.

He leaned against the headboard, touching the pillow that still seemed to have her scent.

On the nightstand, under the ring box, was a small receipt from the pharmacy that Amara had left behind. She had bought birth control pills, and according to the clerk, she took them right there in the store.

Did she hate him when she took the pills?

She had tried countless times to tell him about the Hughes Family, but he never gave her the chance. She probably left because she was disappointed in him!

In the end, it was he who was abandoned in their relationship.

That night, Kingsley lay on that bed and dreamt that Amara came back, reliving everything that had happened before.

"Amara!" He woke up, heart racing, only to find the room cold and empty. On an early summer night, the only sounds were the insects outside and the faint hum of the air conditioner.

The next day, he skipped work and drove five hours to Stellaria City to meet the owner of the breakfast shop, leaving behind some Syeattel specialties.

As the black SUV drove away, the owner watched for a long time.

Back in Syeattel, Kingsley sat for a long time at the KFC he and Amara had once visited. He ordered a coffee and a cherry pie, which she had said was delicious.

He still wasn't used to it, but he slowly finished it.

Maybe his appearance was too striking, as many kids stared at him. A particularly pretty little girl even asked, "Sir, are you heartbroken?"

Kingsley was taken aback.

After a moment, he smiled faintly. "Yeah. I wasn't a good boyfriend and lost my girlfriend."

With that, he got up and walked out.

He didn't return to that apartment, leaving the diamond ring and Amara's pharmacy receipt there.

If there were two timelines, the other Kingsley and Amara would be living happily in that apartment.

He definitely wouldn't make her cry again!

Kingsley still flew out of Syeattel, heading to Libytania, but he left Rebecca in Syeattel.

Time flew by. Originally, Kingsley planned to stay in Libytania for no more than a year, but unexpectedly, he stayed for three years.

At the end of the first year, Lola had a baby, and he came back once. The arrival of the baby made the Hawkins Mansion especially lively.

Kingsley didn't adjust to the time difference and went straight to Johnny's villa to visit Lola. And Johnny took good care of Lola.

Lola and Johnny's son was named Austin Flores.

Austin was healthy and strong, reportedly crying from morning till night but still full of energy.

Angelina adored him! Even Bobby was jumping around the bed, extremely excited.

When it was time to feed the baby, Kingsley and Johnny stepped out, the two men chatting casually in the living room. Johnny suddenly said, "I heard you kept Ralph at the Hawkins Group?"

Kingsley just smiled faintly, but Johnny, being sharp, immediately understood his intention. It was nothing more than hoping that with Ralph there, Amara might come back one day.

Johnny asked, "If you care so much about Amara, why didn't you keep looking for her?"

Kingsley walked to the window.

He opened the window, took out a cigarette, and lit it. After smoking half of it, he said in a low voice, "I won't look anymore."

It had been so long that his relationship with Amara, like that diamond ring and receipt, was left behind in that apartment. He still had to manage the Hawkins Group and had no energy to deal with anything else.

But these were just excuses. He knew Amara was disappointed in him and truly wanted to leave. The only thing he could do was to give her freedom.

Kingsley took a deep drag on his cigarette.

He had lost weight, looked much more mature, and his profile resembled a young Frederick.

Johnny vaguely remembered that Kingsley was 28 this year.

He said hoarsely, "Why are you smoking so much now?"

"Work stress is getting to me; smoking helps," Kingsley replied casually, then stubbed out the cigarette. It was time to check on Lola and Austin again.

In the evening, Lola invited him to stay for dinner.

Johnny made lamb chops; seeing this reminded Kingsley of Amara, so he declined.

When Kingsley drove back to the Hawkins Mansion, he passed by that apartment.

He parked downstairs but sat in the car for half an hour, ultimately not going up.

Kingsley returned to the Hawkins Mansion.

The house was bustling with joy over Austin's birth.

Sienna and Charlotte had bought many baby items and were organizing them. Charlotte looked gentle, and Sienna clung to her, creating a warm scene.

Seeing Kingsley return, Sienna happily ran up and hugged his arm. "You've seen Austin! He looks almost exactly like Johnny!"

Kingsley smiled faintly.

Sienna's face darkened. "Kingsley, you don't smile much anymore!"

Kingsley tapped her head. "If you smiled all day like a fool."

At the mention of "fool," he was momentarily dazed.

Sienna didn't notice and went back to looking at baby items with Charlotte, but Charlotte looked up at Kingsley and said gently, "Go upstairs and rest. I'll have Sienna call you for dinner."

Kingsley nodded and went upstairs.

He was very tired, but he couldn't sleep. Standing by the window, he smoked another cigarette.

There was a knock on the door.

Sienna carefully squeezed in through the door crack, holding an envelope, and said mysteriously, "Someone wrote you a love letter while you were away in Syeattel!"

She added, "It's 2022, and someone still writes letters!"

Kingsley's eyes deepened, and he asked her to bring it over.

"Dad asked me to give it to you! It arrived last week." Then she ran off after speaking. After all, it wasn't unusual for Kingsley to receive love letters.

Kingsley pursed his lips and casually opened it.

Inside was a cashier's check for $800,000.

Seeing the amount, Kingsley's blood froze. He looked closely, and although the check wasn't signed by Amara, he was sure it was sent by her. The return address was Syeattel, indicating she had come back.
