Chapter 637 Tonight, She Wants to Let Loose!
In the private room, things were a bit tense.
Rufus clearly had a thing for Amara. He didn't say much, but he handed her a cup of water.
Floyd knew Rufus was into Amara. He grinned warmly. "It's rare for us to hang out like this. Let's skip the business talk and just enjoy a meal!"
Then he leaned over to Zachary and Maurice, joking. "See, young folks get comfy with each other real quick!"
Maurice gave a slight smile.
Zachary, the stern head of the Hughes Family, managed a rare smile as he sipped his water, quietly observing Amara.
Amara looked a lot like her mom.
She seemed delicate, but after years of training with Landon, she had become much more capable, something Zachary was grateful to Landon for.
Floyd leaned in again, all enthusiastic. "The food here is awesome! The salmon is fresh from the coast!"
Zachary nodded with a certain air.
No one else had any objections.
So Floyd let Rufus handle the meal. Just as Rufus was about to call the waiter, Kingsley showed up at the door. Under the light outside, he looked dashing in his bespoke suit, exuding an air of nobility.
Kingsley's gaze swept across the room, finally landing on Rufus. Kingsley, naturally arrogant, made Rufus seem a bit uneasy in comparison.
"Everyone's here!" Kingsley walked in, followed by Rebecca, who gave Amara a slight smile.
The atmosphere got really tense.
Floyd was the first to feel uncomfortable. He was indeed trying to poach Amara, but he had contacted Charlotte. He didn't expect Kingsley to show up directly.
Being the older one, Floyd adopted a formal tone. "Kingsley, what a coincidence. We're having a family dinner today, not very convenient."
"A family dinner!" Kingsley nodded, sitting directly opposite Amara. Looking at her, he slowly said, "Since it's a family dinner, how come you don't even know Amara's taste? She doesn't like this food. Her favorite is herb-crusted lamb chops. Mr. Palmer, could you check if they have lamb chops here?"
He laid out a napkin for himself, smiling. "They need to be fresh. Amara's taste has become quite refined with me."
Rebecca stifled a laugh behind him.
Everyone else looked displeased.
Amara was here to seek investment from Floyd. Although the chances were slim now, she couldn't completely disregard his face. She said calmly, "These dishes are fine. I'm not used to them yet, but I need to be."
After speaking, she glanced at Kingsley.
Kingsley gave her a slight smile. Honestly, he was very handsome. Even though Amara was determined to break up with him, she couldn't escape the allure of his looks.
She slightly averted her gaze.
Kingsley then looked at Maurice, asking, "Why are you attending Mr. Floyd Palmer's family dinner? Is Sarah in contact with Mr. Palmer, starting a new relationship?"
Maurice was drinking water and almost spat it out.
Zachary was a bit annoyed.
The Hughes Family and the Hawkins Family had a rocky history. Years ago, Gavin almost drove the Hughes Group into the ground. Even though things had gotten a bit better, Amara's situation had forced the Hughes Family to try and cozy up to the Hawkins Family, but the Hawkins Family couldn't care less about them.
Zachary said in a deep voice, "Of course not!"
Kingsley nodded. "That's good! Honestly, I don't think Amara and Rufus are a good match either. Forcing them together wouldn't be right."
Zachary eyed Kingsley, who just smiled slightly.
Zachary squinted. He got why Kingsley was here, probably out of jealousy, but he didn't expect him to stand up for Amara.
Just then, the waiter brought in the food. Rufus closed the door and sat down. Trying to win Amara over, Rufus thoughtfully prepared condiments for her, which Kingsley didn't stop.
Amara declined, "I can do it myself!"
She still wasn't used to the food and ate very little. Kingsley, however, shamelessly ate her portion too. Amara looked at him, a bit annoyed. Were they really that close now?
Clearly, he didn't like this kind of food either.
Rufus's eyes dimmed, but Floyd gave him an encouraging look.
With Kingsley around, the meal ended quickly.
Logically, with Floyd's attitude, Amara should have given up.
Amara got into the car, and her secretary said disappointedly, "We need to find a new investor, right? Floyd is too much, wanting to marry off his son for an investment!"
Amara sat quietly.
After a while, she whispered, "I've evaluated it. Floyd is still the best option. We can't give up on this investor."
The secretary was skeptical.
Amara said softly, "He definitely sees the potential in the project. He didn't build a billion-dollar fortune without skills! He won't give up for personal reasons. For the project, I have to persist."
The secretary admired her. "Ms. Butler, you're making a big sacrifice!"
Amara smiled faintly.
Just as the car was about to drive off, Maurice hurried over. He even disregarded etiquette, opening the car door and saying to Amara, "Let's have a cup of coffee. No outsiders."
Amara looked up at him, and the secretary didn't dare to speak.
After a moment, Amara said softly, "Alright."
She didn't want to get involved with the Hughes Family, but they seemed unwilling to give up. Now it was clear they wanted to team up with Floyd. Some things needed to be clarified.
Amara got out of the car and followed Maurice.
As they walked into the club's lobby, they ran into Kingsley. He seemed a bit uncomfortable, having had some drinks, and was resting on a sofa. Hearing footsteps, he probably sensed it was Amara and opened his eyes.
Maurice was always afraid of Kingsley.
Despite being older, he was very deferential. "Kingsley, I'm taking Amara for a cup of coffee. It won't take long."
Amara remained silent.
Kingsley chuckled lightly. "Alright!"
Maurice turned to Amara. "Let's go!"
After a few turns, they arrived at a more upscale private room. Zachary was sitting upright, drinking coffee.
Maurice led the way in, saying softly, "Zachary, Amara is here!"
Zachary looked up.
At this moment, Zachary's gaze wasn't as restrained as it usually was. Instead, it carried a hint of regret and nostalgia as he looked at Amara, almost as if he were seeing someone else through her face.
After a long while, Zachary finally said in a hoarse voice, "You look so much like your mother! Have a seat."
Amara sat across from him.
Zachary started reminiscing about the past. "The first time I saw her, I was deeply captivated by her. If I could, I would have cherished her. Amara, you are very much like your mother, making people want to protect you."
Maybe because he was in a high position with endless power, when men reminisce about past romances, they always carry a bit of regret. But to Amara, it was nothing but irony.
She suppressed her emotions. "But you lied to her! You told her you weren't married, so she, at just 20 years old, dated a man nearly 40!"
Zachary sighed lightly. "I truly loved her!"
Amara smiled faintly, her voice choking slightly. "Your love was a curse for her! Maybe at first, you did love her, but when she got pregnant and threatened your family, you discarded her! Do you know how much she suffered giving birth to me and how difficult my life has been? You are not worthy of even mentioning her. Three years ago, if I had a normal family, I wouldn't have ended up with Kingsley. So now, what right do you have to want to be a loving father?"
Zachary closed his eyes. "Do you hate me?"
Amara shook her head. "No! My mother should hate you! You wronged her, and she never forgave you until her death! But now you have no relation to her, and likewise, I hope you don't contact me. I will never take the Hughes name."
Zachary laughed. He looked at Amara and said in a deep voice, "You are still too young! Whether you want to marry into the Palmer Family or the Hawkins Family, do you think you can hold that position without strong family support?"
Amara felt she was not like him.
She stood up and said calmly, "I don't have such ambitions!"
As Amara held the door handle, Zachary's deep voice came. "You will regret this! Amara, I genuinely want to make it up to you now, as long as you call me Dad."
Amara paused. She said very softly, "I don't have a dad!" Then she walked out.
Behind her, she heard the sound of a cup shattering. But Amara didn't care.
Maurice tried to persuade, "This matter can't be rushed. At least give her some time to buffer!"
Zachary pointed to the door. "Three years have passed, and she still hasn't figured it out! She is as stubborn as her mother. What's wrong with being a mistress? Why make a fuss, saying I deceived her?"
Maurice's tone was restrained. "You did deceive her!"
Zachary fell silent.
Amara walked out, the night was deep, and she felt worse than before.
In the lobby, Kingsley was still sitting, but he seemed more sober than before.
Seeing Amara, he picked up the coat beside him and said, "I'll take you home."
Amara softly refused, "The company has a car coming."
Under the light, Kingsley's handsome face looked at her. "I sent your driver away."
Amara was speechless.
Kingsley smiled faintly, draping the coat over her shoulders. "Take a walk with me to digest. The food here is really bad!"
Maybe because Amara was too sad and wanted company, she didn't refuse.
There was a river near the club, and the night view was quite nice. They walked silently, Kingsley with a cigarette between his lips, nodding lightly at her, asking if she minded.
Amara smiled faintly.
Kingsley lit the cigarette, exhaling a thin stream of smoke. He leaned on the railing and asked her, "Do you fancy Rufus?"
Amara gently wrapped the coat around herself.
It had Kingsley's unique tobacco scent. Her soft cheek brushed against the collar, with a hint of longing.
Kingsley quietly looked at her delicate face and slender neck, then called her name.
Amara responded, turning to him. "Why did you come today?"
He just looked at her body wrapped in his coat.
After a long while, he finally moved closer.
His hand slipped inside the coat, his head resting against her forehead, his voice light and hoarse. "Is the coat warm? You seem to like it."
As he spoke, he held her waist, caressing back and forth through the silk shirt.
Amara leaned back slightly, but he pulled her back. She was aroused by his desire.
Maybe it was the alcohol or her bad mood, but tonight she wanted to let loose. She let him caress her, and they ended up kissing, stumbling, and colliding, their lips and teeth clashing.
Kingsley's Adam's apple bobbed, and he asked her in a low voice, "Where do you want to go?"
Amara understood his meaning. Given their past encounters, she didn't pretend to be coy. She gently hugged his waist and whispered, "Let's go to a hotel."
"Are you sure?" Kingsley leaned in to kiss her for a long time, giving her enough time to change her mind.
But Amara didn't stop him. They went to the nearest five-star hotel. When getting a room, Amara leaned against Kingsley's chest, the coat covering her face.
The hotel staff stared at Kingsley's face, trying to see who the woman was, but he didn't let them.
He took the room key and led Amara into the elevator. Although they had agreed to make love, in the elevator, they were not as open as before. Amara leaned on his shoulder, her breathing quickening.
He was unusually gentle and considerate. "Should we go to the apartment or back to the villa?"
Amara shook her head lightly.
She brushed the hair from her cheek and said softly, "Let's stay here."
Kingsley didn't say anything more, holding her face and kissing her lightly.
As the elevator door opened, Kingsley held Amara, found the room number, and swiped the key card. Unlike before, he wasn't in a rush. He asked thoughtfully, "Should you call Hailey? I'll take a shower first."
Amara nodded, watching him go to the bathroom.
After he left, she took out her phone and called Hailey saying she was working late.
Hailey was very concerned, repeatedly telling her to take care of herself.
Amara blushed.
Just then, Kingsley came out, saying, "It seems we're short one bathrobe. I'll call the receptionist."
