Chapter 408 I'm Looking for a Wife, Not a Business Partner
Landon couldn't believe his ears. "You got mad skills like that?"
Charlotte was chillin', messing with the roses, snipping them just right and setting them up all pretty in the vase.
She gave a sly smile. "Just wait and see!"
Landon thought about lighting up a smoke but decided to pass.
Right then, Frederick strolled in.
The sunroom was cozy, like a spring day. His wife was sitting there, all peaceful, arranging flowers in a white wool dress.
From behind, she still looked as slim as ever.
Her golden hair flowed down her back, looking like something out of a painting.
If Landon wasn't there, Frederick would've been all over Charlotte.
Frederick was kinda pissed.
But he kept it cool, picked up the vase, and said, "Looks pretty nice!"
Charlotte smiled.
She turned to Landon and said, "Don't sweat it! I'll totally come through on my promise!"
Landon looked at the couple, feeling all sorts of mixed up.
He wanted to get closer to Charlotte, but his brain was telling him to back off.
In the end, he bailed.
As soon as he was out the door, Frederick started grilling her, "Why were you alone with him?"
Charlotte fiddled with the vase and shot him a look. "Are you jealous, or just looking for an excuse to get handsy?"
Frederick chuckled softly.
He leaned in close and whispered in her ear, "You know me too well, Mrs. Hawkins."
Despite his words, he didn't do anything but hang out with her.
Charlotte carefully arranged two bouquets, sending one to Chloe.
Chloe was thrilled!
When Andrew got back to the bedroom after hanging with Matthew, he saw her admiring the flowers. With a drink in him, he said boldly, "You don't usually get your hands dirty like this!"
Chloe didn't want to get into it.
But they'd been close so many times. It was hard not to get it.
Her face turned a bit red, and she said softly, "You always mess with me, knowing I won't fight back!"
Andrew walked over, gently took her hand, and led her to the sofa.
She wrapped her arms around his waist, feeling the warmth of his body through his thin shirt.
Andrew looked down at her.
He gently touched her face.
"When have you ever not fought back?"
Talking about this with a guy, a girl was always at a disadvantage. Chloe stammered, looking a bit hurt, "But you never listen to me!"
Andrew's gaze was soft.
He didn't say anything, just leaned down and kissed her.
Chloe stopped him. "Didn't we agree?"
"I never agreed!" His voice was super gentle, whispering as he kissed her, "Chloe, when a guy and a girl are together, if he doesn't want to do it, it means there's something wrong with the relationship."
Otherwise, how could he resist?
Chloe half-heartedly resisted.
In the heat of the moment, she was a bit distracted, touching Andrew's sweaty, handsome face, and said softly, "Matthew's been coming over these past few days, and I just feel like Charlotte's so capable! Andrew."
She sniffed. "Do you think I'm useless?"
Andrew was in the heat of the moment. How could he have the patience to comfort her? He was just a regular guy with feelings and desires!
He bit her nose and said warmly, "No."
He lifted her onto the bed, and another round of passion kicked off.
After it was really over, she leaned against him, breathing lightly.
She was still kinda bothered. Charlotte was capable, and the women around Andrew were also super capable, like Grace, not to mention Celeste.
Chloe hated Celeste, but she couldn't deny her excellence.
She was pretty angry and insecure.
Andrew chilled out a bit, seeing her face, he knew she still cared. He kissed her head. "I'm looking for a wife, not a business partner! Why would I need someone so capable?"
Those words made Chloe feel better.
She lightly tapped his skin with her slender fingers, half-flirty and half-testing. "But Frederick and Charlotte have a great relationship!"
Andrew smiled.
Charlotte had those Devereux family genes; she wasn't like her mom, who was Andrew's sister.
His sister Victoria was a lot like Chloe, pure and cute.
Andrew's gaze got even softer.
He pulled her little head closer, letting her lean against his chest, and said softly, "We're different!"
He liked Chloe just the way she was.
If he wanted a strong, capable wife, he wouldn't have waited this long.
After some sweet talk, she finally felt happy.
Chloe sniffed and bit his shoulder a few times, saying softly, "They'll be heading back to Syeattel in a few days, and they want to take me with them!"
Andrew had been resting with his eyes closed, but now he opened them.
He wanted to keep her, but Chloe was pretty willing. "I have work after the holiday too! Andrew, I'll be waiting for you in Syeattel!"
Andrew laughed. "Alright! I'll come see you and our son when I can."
With only a few days left together, the man couldn't help but indulge in intimacy.
Chloe wanted to too, but she was worried about his health, given his age.
"What do you mean? Didn't I satisfy you?"
Andrew seemed pretty concerned, and that night he tormented her until she was half-dead, only stopping after she called his name several times.
Meanwhile, Charlotte had a plan in mind.
A guest came from Syeattel, staying at Adeline's place for a day in secret.
Even Andrew and Chloe didn't know about it.
After Charlotte finished her business, Frederick took his wife and kids, along with Chloe and a tearful Gavin, back to Syeattel.
Andrew was super busy; he didn't even make it to the airport to see them off.
Chloe sat on the private jet, reluctantly turning off her phone.
She understood Andrew. After his project had failed, it was now only half a month away from launch. The atmosphere was probably too tense, and he didn't ask her to come and watch.
Chloe thought, if she could find the time, she would definitely go.
This was Andrew's years of hard work!
Frederick sat next to her, folding his newspaper, and snorted at Chloe's pitiful look. "You'll have plenty of time to see each other after you get married."
Chloe blushed and said, "I wasn't thinking about him!"
Frederick chuckled.
Chloe made a face at him.
When they got back to Syeattel, they went their separate ways. Frederick took Charlotte and the kids back to the villa.
Back home, the kids had free time, and the couple went upstairs.
They didn't like having servants come in to clean, preferring to do it themselves.
Charlotte was pregnant, so Frederick handled the luggage.
Charlotte found him considerate.
She wanted to rest but couldn't sleep, so she went to the walk-in closet and hugged him from behind.
Frederick was slightly startled.
Then he smiled. "Even if I look good, Mrs. Hawkins, you should restrain yourself."
Charlotte didn't argue with him.
She softly leaned against his back and said quietly, "Frederick, you're so thoughtful!"
Frederick felt a warmth in his heart.
He mimicked her tone and whispered, "I told you, I want to be a good husband and father! And doing these things makes me feel good."
Charlotte chuckled softly.
She thought back to when they first met; he actually enjoyed socializing now and then.
Even though he didn't mess around with women, he had his fair share of fun.
Just as things were heating up, a servant knocked on the door. "Charlotte, someone named Jennifer Wallace is here to see you!"
Charlotte raised her voice. "Got it!"
She walked over to Frederick and said gently, "I'm gonna go meet her!"
Just as she was about to leave, Frederick grabbed her arm.
He pulled her lightly into his arms, his handsome face showing some discomfort. "It's Landon's mom, right? Charlotte, even though I know you're doing this for Andrew, I'm still a bit upset!"
Having been married to him for a long time, Charlotte knew how to handle him.
She gently stroked his arm and said softly, "Besides doing it for Andrew, I'm also doing it for Chloe."
Matthew wanted to climb the Hawkins family ladder.
But she wanted the project Matthew had.
All in all, she just wanted to make Andrew's path to success a bit shorter.
Naturally, Chloe would benefit too.
Frederick quietly watched her, his gaze deep. He wasn't really that angry, but he liked expressing his feelings to Charlotte, and then she would comfort him.
He liked that she cared about him this much.
Frederick didn't say anything.
Charlotte could guess his thoughts. She stood on tiptoe and kissed his lips, smiling lightly. "We already have several kids, and you're still like this."
Frederick wrapped his arms around her slender waist and kissed her for a while.
After he had kissed her enough, he finally let her go downstairs.
Charlotte adjusted her clothes, making sure everything was in order before heading down.
Downstairs, a very elegant and beautiful woman was sitting.
She was a novelist. And also Landon's mom.
Charlotte stood at the staircase and smiled lightly. "Jennifer."
Jennifer was in her forties but looked like she was 35. Charlotte calling her this didn't seem out of place.
Jennifer quickly stood up, her voice also gentle.
She stepped forward to support Charlotte, but Charlotte smiled lightly. "I'm not that delicate! I exercise every day."
The two sat down and chatted casually.
Jennifer had brought a beautiful set of deluxe parenting books, published abroad and hard to find on the market. Charlotte liked them very much.
After some small talk, they finally got to the main topic!
Charlotte took out an invitation and said softly, "There's a charity gala next month, and almost all the elites in the country will attend! Jennifer, I know you don't want to have any dealings with that man, but you also have to think about Landon's future! The Carter family has no children, and Landon is the only heir. I won't comment on Matthew's character, but doing business with him will definitely give Landon a different life."
This was a sore point for Jennifer.
No mother wanted to see her son spending his days racing and mingling with women.
She also wanted to see Landon get married and have kids. To see him on the right track in life.
Jennifer thought of the past and felt a bit sad. "It's my fault! I gave him such a terrible life."
She was close to Charlotte, so she shared some of her wild stories.
Charlotte patted her hand, reassuring her.
From then on, Jennifer became a frequent guest at the Hawkins villa. She often came to keep Charlotte company. Interestingly, Landon had also visited, but the two never met.
Charlotte went upstairs.
She sat on the sofa, lost in thought.
Frederick, having finished unpacking, walked over and hugged her shoulders from behind, asking softly, "What's up? Something on your mind?"
Charlotte held his fingers.
She spoke softly, "Landon's mom just told me about Landon's affairs. I actually feel a bit guilty!"
Frederick chuckled.
He could guess her thoughts immediately; it was about Landon sleeping with Tina.
Well, it was good that he did!
He teased her on purpose, "What? Feeling sorry for him?"
Seeing his expression, Charlotte immediately clarified. "I'm not feeling sorry for him; I'll only feel sorry for you!"
She was good at comforting people, turning around and resting her head on his waist.
Frederick chuckled.
For the next half month, Charlotte took Jennifer to several parties.
They were small in scale but hosted by elites.
After a few times, people knew Jennifer, who was Charlotte's sister and the god-granddaughter of Adeline from Copenhegan.
In terms of age, she should be Adeline's god-daughter.
But Charlotte insisted she be her godsister.
People naturally didn't dare to neglect someone from the Devereux family.
Charlotte felt it was about time.
She called Landon over, arranged for him to work at the company, and occasionally guided him personally.
Landon had inherited Matthew's genes and had a talent for business.
Of course, most of it was because he didn't want to be looked down upon by Charlotte.
He learned quickly, and when Matthew heard about his progress, he called to thank Charlotte.
"It's my duty! Entrusting Landon to me shows your trust in me!"
The two had a pleasant conversation.
Charlotte subtly shifted the topic to the project, and it just so happened that Matthew was looking for a partner.
Partnering with anyone was still a partnership.
If he partnered with Charlotte, not only could he connect with the Hawkins family, but he could also let Charlotte help take care of his son.
This could achieve multiple benefits.
So Matthew readily agreed!
Charlotte was quite pleased.
She said cheerfully, "Matthew, see you at the charity gala next week! We can sign the letter of intent then."
Matthew laughed.
He said, "Charlotte, you really are suited for business! Ever thought about coming back to the business world? I have tons of projects, and you can help me anytime you want; of course, bringing Landon along would be even better!"
Charlotte smiled faintly.
She did all this precisely because she didn't want to bring Landon along.
She wanted Landon to willingly take over the family business, and at the same time, stop bothering her!
Having a young man who secretly admired her around all the time made her uncomfortable, even if Frederick didn't say anything.
Charlotte's mind was racing, but she didn't reveal a thing in her words.
After hanging up the phone, her phone rang again, and it was Lily.
Lily told her that because of various interventions, Tina's case had been expedited.
It was the death penalty.
Charlotte wasn't surprised by the result, but hearing it still made her pause slightly. After all, they were classmates back then, and such an ending was enough to make one sigh.
Lily added, "She wants to see us!"
Charlotte thought Lily wouldn't want to see her, but to her surprise, Lily said, "Let's see her! It's the last time in this life!"
Charlotte forced a smile. "Why are you suddenly so magnanimous?"
Lily lowered her eyes. "Charlotte, Robert is going too! It's a way to bring closure."
Hearing this, Charlotte knew that all these years, Lily had never let go and had always harbored resentment!
