Chapter 524 So It's Because Johnny isn't Here

Lola pressed her face against his back and whispered, "Let me think about it!"

Johnny was a bit surprised.

He knew Lola well enough to know that with her pride, she wouldn't say something so vague unless she was really moved. Plus, she was willing to live with him and soften her stance. It was probably because she loved him.

After a while, he turned around and kissed her gently.

Morning light streamed through the window, bathing them in a soft, peaceful glow.

Lola whispered, "If you keep kissing me, I'll be late for the law firm!"

Johnny gave her another quick kiss and soon had breakfast ready. While eating, she looked at the bandage on his face and couldn't help but laugh, "With that, you can't go messing around with young girls."

"With one at home, I don't have the energy for more," he said shamelessly, making Lola think he was being cheeky, so she didn't continue the conversation.

After breakfast, Johnny drove her to the law firm, then headed to the airport to pick up a partner from Cairo who was also planning to return to the country.

The car stopped in front of the law firm.

Johnny turned to her. "I'll pick you up after work, and we'll have dinner with them."

Lola looked at him in confusion.

Johnny smiled lightly. "Travis Perry and his wife! By the way, you know his wife too. We went to the same kindergarten, Melissa Martin, the one who plays the piano really well."

Lola remembered and looked at Johnny. "You guys kept in touch abroad? You never mentioned it."

Johnny studied Lola's expression. After a while, he smiled. "If you don't want to meet, we won't."

Lola smiled faintly and got out of the car. She entered the law firm and soon called Gavin, "I have some funds here that you might need!"

Gavin's voice sounded tired, likely from his intense battle with the Hughes Family.

"Lola, you've helped me a lot already!"

"Come over, you'll definitely need it."

Half an hour later, Gavin came over in person. When he saw the check, he was slightly stunned. It was from Johnny.

Gavin placed the check on the desk, sat down slowly, and rubbed his forehead. "When did your relationship with him get so good that he would write a $20 billion check? Are you two getting married?"

Lola blushed. "Just take the money!" She smoothed her hair and added, "We're not there yet!"

Gavin's eyes were intense. He picked up the check, flicked it, and then said, "Honestly, I really need the money right now, but if I take it and you two break up, I'd rather die than not be able to repay it! I won't allow you to lower yourself for money."

Lola kicked him. "Do you think I'm that kind of person? Don't worry! Even if we break up, I'll find a way to repay him."

Gavin said no more, and took the check and left in a hurry. Once in his car, he called Johnny. He politely thanked Johnny and addressed him courteously.

Then, he tried to return the check to Johnny. But Johnny was already at the airport, and it was noisy on his end. "Gavin! Besides Lola, don't we have this kind of friendship? Or do you not trust my sincerity towards Lola, or are you still holding a grudge about that fight we had years ago? Gavin, I've always wanted to talk to you face-to-face over the years."

He was eloquent and said a lot. In the end, Gavin accepted the favor and quietly said, "Thanks."

On the other end, Johnny smiled slightly.

That evening, Lola came home early.

Before 7 PM, the apartment was empty, and she felt a bit out of place. But she used to be alone, and it was fine!

Lola started looking for things to do.

She followed a tutorial to make a simple meal, but it didn't taste good. After a few bites, she threw it away and ordered a steak from a five-star hotel.

While waiting for the steak, she got herself a glass of red wine and played some music.

She kept telling herself that she was enjoying this luxurious solitude!

But when the steak arrived, and she was eating the finest steak, drinking the most expensive wine, living in the top-tier apartment, something still felt off.

Finally, she realized it was because Johnny wasn't there.

Holding her phone, she hesitated for a long time but didn't press the call button.

Lola threw the phone aside and thought, 'I'm losing my cool! It's just a few times, why take it so seriously!'

Johnny came back at that moment.

The door opened, and he saw Lola lying on the couch, looking very dejected.

Her long legs were draped over the armrest of the couch, and he found it incredibly cute.

Lola heard the door and turned to him. Johnny did the same.

After a while, he lifted the bag in his hand. "I brought you something to eat, your favorite pizza."

"You remembered!"

Johnny changed his shoes, walked in, and placed the food on the dining table, opening it for Lola.

Seeing that Lola didn't move, he simply picked her up and placed her on a chair at the dining table.

Lola complained, "I can walk by myself!"

Johnny took off his jacket, revealing a crisp white shirt and black casual pants, looking sharp and fresh. It was just that the wounds on his face still hadn't healed.

Lola ate the pizza and asked, "Did you really meet old classmates and Travis looking like this?"

Her parents were quite familiar with Travis's parents.

Johnny smiled slightly. "It's not a date; looks don't matter! By the way, did the police contact you today? I heard Mrs. Nelson was bailed out."

Lola nodded and lowered her voice. "It's been classified as a civil dispute, so it's hard to say!"

Johnny asked her, "Do you regret it? Giving her the legal fees and ending up with such a bad person."

Lola chuckled. "Haven't I met enough jerks? Besides, she's not the worst."

The air was silent.

After a while, Johnny ground his teeth. "Ms. Hawkins, can we not bring that up again?"

Lola smiled faintly. She continued eating the pizza, her appetite quite good. "Tastes just like when we were kids."

Johnny watched her finish eating, cleaned up, and then leaned against the dining table, speaking slowly, "People might not taste the same as when we were kids, Ms. Hawkins, do you want to try tonight?"

Lola admired his thick skin.

She usually had a pretty thick skin herself, but compared to Johnny, it was nothing.

She wiped her lips. "Sorry! Post-meal exercise isn't good for digestion!"

Johnny checked his watch. "How about in an hour?"

Lola rubbed her still sore waist and fake-smiled. "No need! If you need to, you can take care of it yourself."

Saying that, she threw a thick stack of napkins at him!

Lola went to the study, and Johnny looked at the stack of napkins and smiled.

It didn't take long for Frederick to find out about the large sum of money Gavin received.

Although he already knew the two were sleeping together, using $20 billion meant things were serious.

Frederick was pacing back and forth at home, making Charlotte dizzy.

Frederick finally stopped and said, "No, we need to call them back and ask!"

Charlotte sighed softly. "How are you going to ask? Ask them when they're getting married? Isn't that too unreserved? Doesn't Lola care about her dignity?"

Frederick sneered. "Young people today aren't like us back then. When we were in a relationship, we were truly committed. But these young people can sleep together today and break up tomorrow, as simple and common as eating and sleeping."

Charlotte also sneered. "Weren't you the one who wanted excitement back then? Forgot about that?"

Frederick blushed. "That was so long ago; Charlotte, you still remember? Besides, I was faithful to you, never touched anyone else!"

Charlotte continued reading. "Really?"

Frederick was eager to prove himself. In the end, he sat beside Charlotte, feeling aggrieved. "Aren't we talking about the kids? Why do you keep bringing me up? Can you say you've had a bad life all these years? Which wife lives as comfortably as you? If they're not dealing with mistresses, they're guarding against husbands having illegitimate children."

Charlotte smiled slightly. "Thinking about it, you're alright."

"I have to be!" Frederick held her hand and kissed her cheek. "We have so many years ahead of us. Once the kids' matters are settled, I'll take you on a trip around the world."

Charlotte didn't like traveling much.

Being pestered by him, she smiled faintly. "Frederick, you are my whole world."

Frederick was stunned.

Charlotte never said such romantic words. He pestered her to say it again, but she refused. In the end, Frederick's desire was aroused, so they had an intimate moment on the sofa, twice.

They ended up all sweaty.

Afterwards, Charlotte sat in his lap, stroking his handsome features. "At your age, you still can't settle down!"

Frederick's eyes were full of affection.

They had been married for over 20 years, and Charlotte was as beautiful as ever, maintaining a figure like a woman in her thirties. Their frequency of lovemaking hadn't decreased much from their younger days, which was probably a blessing from above.

He kissed her and couldn't resist her shoulder.

Charlotte felt he wanted to do it again and pushed him. "Enough, you need to control yourself!"

Today, Frederick didn't want to control himself.

Just then, there was a knock on the door from the servant. "Frederick, Lola is back!"

Frederick looked down at Charlotte in his arms, his voice hoarse/ "I'll go talk to Lola, you rest well."

Charlotte was a bit worried.

Frederick was a bit crazy about the kids' marriages, so she added, "Marriage is a big deal, let Lola decide for herself! Johnny is great, but they need to think it through."

Frederick nodded and gently stroked Charlotte's shoulder. "I'll go downstairs first."

He dressed in front of her, even shaking a bit while zipping up his pants, making Charlotte blush.

Frederick felt proud.

He went downstairs, and Lola was lying on the couch watching TV, an animated show.

Frederick walked down and cleared his throat. "You're one of Seattle's top lawyers, and you still like watching cartoons."

Lola turned to look at him, then ate a chip. "Dad, it's called staying young at heart! Aren't you the same? You indulge in daytime pleasures and call it staying young at heart!"

Frederick sat across from her, glaring. "If your mom heard that, she'd kill you! You only dare to talk back to me, but you act all sweet in front of her."

"One must act properly with proper people!"

Frederick was annoyed.

He took a sip of water and then started questioning, "Tell me about Gavin's funds!"

Lola laughed. "Dad, that's not what you really want to ask, is it?"

Frederick decided to be direct. "Fine! Then tell me, what's going on with you and Johnny? Do you have a plan? If it's settled, I can have your mom prepare, and I can give Johnny some advice, like preparing a house."

"It's too early!" Lola smiled faintly. "Dad, we need to get to know each other better, right? Marriage isn't something to rush into. If it doesn't work out and we get divorced, or if a child gets involved, it would be too troublesome!"

Frederick agreed.

But these two kids were family, and if things went wrong, it would be difficult.

Lola knew his concerns. She paused for a moment, then smiled faintly. "At worst, it'll be like before!"

With that, she stood up. "Dad, I have work at the firm; I need to go!"

Frederick frowned. "So busy? I haven't finished asking!"

Lola bent down and kissed him. "You can call Johnny back and question him thoroughly. He'd be happy to tell you all his hobbies! Dad, trust me, men have more in common to talk about."

Frederick thought Lola was a rogue. Could Johnny really handle her?

As Lola got up, she smiled. "Dad, take a bath! You guys were quite intense."

With that, she ran off. Frederick couldn't even catch her to hit her!

As Lola left, she got a call from Johnny. His voice was gentle. "Did dad call you home for a lecture?"

Lola sat in the car. She held the steering wheel with one hand and chatted with him on the phone with the other, feeling relaxed. "Johnny, you have spies in my house!"

He chuckled. "Key positions need my people, otherwise how could I win you over?"

Lola paused. She thought of her father's words, Gavin's questions, and her own longing for Johnny.

For the first time, she asked him, "Johnny, are you serious? Have you decided to spend your life with me? You won't leave, disappear, or talk about breaking up again, right?"

Johnny was silent for a moment. His voice was slightly hoarse, even trembling. He said, "I'm serious! Lola, I won't leave again!"

Lola's throat tightened. Finally, after eight years apart, she was willing to admit she still liked him, still wanted to accept him. Her voice hoarse, she said, "Where are you? I want to see you!"
