Chapter 846 He Wants to Be a Good Husband and a Good Father 1

She had been packing for a while when Grant returned.

He noticed the two suitcases she had packed and asked, "Why didn't you wait for me to help? ... Why so few things?"

Nancy replied, "Yeah, this is everything."

Grant glanced at her, then walked into the closet and opened the wardrobe.

It was empty. He turned to Nancy and asked, "Where are all your clothes?"

Nancy had always loved fashion and had a lot of beautiful clothes, especially given her background.

Nancy walked over and closed the wardrobe door.

Leaning against it, she said softly, "I'm pregnant now, so I can't wear those clothes. After the baby is born, my body will change, and I might not fit into them anymore. It's better to turn them into cash."

Grant knew they wouldn't fetch much money.

The main issue was that their rented apartment couldn't accommodate all her clothes, so she had gotten rid of them.

He felt a pang of sadness.

Without saying anything, he picked up the two suitcases and led Nancy downstairs.

The car was no longer the luxury vehicle they once had; it was now a regular family car.

Grant loaded the luggage, helped Nancy into the back seat, and closed the door, his eyes lingering on her.

After a moment, he said softly, "Thanks for sticking with me."

Nancy might never know the significance of her and the baby's presence.

Without them, he might have lost the will to start over or even a sense of purpose... he might have just wasted away.

But now he had a wife and a child, and he couldn't afford to give up.

After paying for his mistakes, he would continue living with them.

Nancy didn't say anything; she just gave a faint smile.

Grant closed the car door.

As he got into the car, he looked at the villa through the rearview mirror.

It was the place he had bought when he was at his peak in Syeattel. Now... he was leaving.

But he thought, one day, he would bring Nancy back here.

Their new place had an elevator, which was Grant's insistence.

Nancy was pregnant, and later she would have to take care of the baby. He didn't want her to suffer.

When they opened the door, the apartment was small.

It couldn't compare to their previous home.

But it was much better than Nancy had imagined. The kitchen, furniture, and bathroom were all quite new...

Walking into the bedroom, Nancy started hanging their clothes in the closet, one by one.

While she was doing that, Grant filled a bucket with water and disinfectant and wiped everything down.

He wanted to make sure it was clean.

After a while, Grant wanted to cook for her, but the small fridge was empty.

He decided to drive to the store.

Nancy stopped him and took out her wallet. "I saw a supermarket across the street from the entrance of the complex. Let's just buy from there. I'll go with you."

Grant was worried she might get tired, but she insisted on going for a walk.

In the end, they went together.

Under the shade of green trees, they walked side by side.

After a while, Grant gently put his arm around her waist to make it easier for her.

He always felt a bit guilty.

Nancy smiled softly, "It's okay! Honestly, most regular couples live like this. If they can handle it, so can I!"

Grant didn't say anything more.

They bought groceries, meat, and milk.

Even though their finances weren't what they used to be, he couldn't skimp on nutrition for Nancy.

They also picked up some household items. The bedding from the villa didn't fit here, so Nancy chose a floral bedspread.

Grant looked at it and asked, "Isn't it a bit too tacky?"

Nancy, however, loved it. "I think it's very cheerful."

She looked up at him, and Grant felt a stir in his heart. He bent down slightly and gently kissed the corner of her mouth. "As long as you like it!"

Nancy's voice was soft, "I want to buy a few more things, but I'll be frugal and not spend recklessly."

Grant hugged her shoulders and called her silly.

After two hours, they went back together.

Grant carried the groceries inside and told Nancy to rest.

He started putting things away and said, "You take a nap, and I'll call you when the food is ready. I have some errands to run in the afternoon. You can take a walk around the complex or read a book. I'll be back for dinner."

Nancy paused while changing her shoes. "Let me cook."

Grant had already taken the groceries to the kitchen.

After a while, his voice came from the kitchen, "When I'm home, I'll cook! When I'm not, I'll prepare meals and leave them in the fridge. You just need to heat them up."

He paused and said, "Nancy, I didn't keep you with me just to make you suffer."

He had promised to be a good husband and father.

In these tough times, he had to do better than other men because Nancy was wonderful, and she deserved his wholehearted devotion.

Nancy's eyes welled up with tears.

She went to the bedroom, spread the bedspread, and tidied up.

She placed a small vase on the bedside table. It was empty now, but she filled it with water.

Grant had said that when he had time, he would pick roses for her.

After a while, the sounds of cooking came from the kitchen.

Grant, worried about waking her, came over and closed the door, making the noise much quieter.

Nancy didn't fall asleep.

She lay in bed, listening quietly to the sounds of Grant cooking.

She didn't find it noisy. In fact, she found the sounds quite soothing.

What Grant didn't know was that it wasn't just she who had given him a home; he had given her a home as well.

She didn't think about the future.

She just wanted to cherish the present and protect this home. Maybe one day, it would blossom.

She slowly fell asleep.

An hour later, Grant came in to wake her for lunch.

He opened the door and saw Nancy lying on her side, the blanket not fully covering her, revealing her six-month pregnant belly.
