Chapter 31: I Slept with Him
Bernice had something to say.
She exhaled and said, "Do you realize what it means for you to leave the music center? Do you know how many people envy you for having so many top-notch students?"
Charlotte knew. But what could she do? She could only choke back her tears and apologize to Bernice.
Bernice was extremely annoyed.
She lit a slim lady's cigarette, took a few puffs, and then looked up, saying, "Charlotte, did you offend someone?"
Charlotte nodded heavily.
She knew it had to be Ethan. She really wanted to know how many more tricks Ethan had up his sleeve to deal with her.
Bernice put out the cigarette, still feeling it was a pity. "To appease the parents, Charlotte, you have to leave the music center for now. If there's a chance in the future, I'll bring you back."
Even though she said that, they both knew that after something like this, it would be incredibly difficult for Charlotte to reestablish herself in the industry.
Charlotte walked out of Bernice's office, her face pale.
While packing her things, her colleagues looked at her with sympathy, except for Tina, who sneered, "Charlotte, you should know the rules here! Don't think you can break them just because Bernice likes you. Now look, your reputation in the industry is ruined! Who would dare hire you to teach piano now?"
Charlotte took a deep breath and said coldly, "You teamed up with Ethan, didn't you? Tina, aren't you afraid of being used by someone like Ethan?"
Tina leaned in closer, smirking.
She lowered her voice and said, "Charlotte, do you think I'm like you? Let me tell you, there's a lot you don't know. I was dating Ethan long before you were with him, got it?"
Tina enunciated each word clearly, "I slept with him."
Charlotte felt a wave of nausea.
She was disgusted with Ethan, and Tina was gloating in front of her. Charlotte kept a straight face and said, "Well, congratulations!"
She picked up her box and was about to leave, but Tina grabbed her arm.
She wouldn't let Charlotte go.
Tina thought, 'It isn't enough! Why? Why does Charlotte get everything handed to her on a silver platter: Bernice's favor and the title of Ethan's girlfriend?'
She had worked so hard for so long and was still not as good as Charlotte. Was it because she wasn't as capable? No, it was because she came from a small town and was looked down upon.
Now, she had finally surpassed Charlotte.
Tina said smugly, "Do you know why Ethan never slept with you? Because, Charlotte, you always act so reserved. Men find that boring."
Charlotte looked down and laughed coldly, "Well, I wish you and Ethan a lifetime of happiness together!"
With that, she forcefully pushed Tina away and walked out quickly.
Tina was furious, but then she felt triumphant. Charlotte now had no family support or career, like a stray dog. What was there to be jealous of?
Feeling great, Tina sat down and sent a message.
[I just got a black silk nightgown. Why don't you come over to my place and see me in it?]
