Chapter 296 He Saw the Diary
Late at night, Cherie dropped off the papers.
In the study, Frederick and Charlotte were chilling side by side.
He signed first, quick and sure.
When it was Charlotte's turn, she held onto the paper for what felt like forever before finally bending down to sign her name.
Her eyes were all teary.
Frederick leaned back on the couch, watching her for a few seconds. He asked with a smirk, "Isn't this what you wanted?"
He felt a sense of satisfaction.
Finally, he had made Charlotte lose her cool.
Charlotte was in a bad mood.
She was different from him; Frederick didn't love her, and the divorce didn't faze him.
But she had all the memories and still divorced him.
From now on, they were strangers.
Charlotte gently put down the pen and said softly as she stood up, "I'll move out with the kids first thing in the morning."
Frederick was visibly stunned. 'So soon?'
Charlotte didn't say another word. She grabbed the doorknob of the study, gently opened the door, and quietly left.
Then the door closed softly.
Frederick stared at the door, his initial sense of satisfaction slowly fading.
Early morning, the movers were already at it, going in and out.
After tying his tie, Frederick went downstairs and saw the scene.
Coincidentally, Charlotte was also in the hall.
She calmly said to him, "I'll have someone move the stuff from the villa in a few days. I want the piano."
Frederick looked at her calm demeanor, his throat tightening. "Whatever!"
Charlotte nodded at him and then left in Jared's car.
Frederick didn't head to the office; he waited until the movers had cleared out all of Charlotte's stuff before slowly walking up to the second floor.
All of Charlotte's things in this newly renovated bedroom were gone.
Frederick sat on the mattress. He felt a bit agitated, lit a cigarette, and quietly smoked.
He thought Charlotte was heartless, leaving without hesitation.
At the door, the old housekeeper knocked and said cautiously, "Frederick, a small box was left behind by the workers. You should check if it's Charlotte's. It must be something important since it's in such a nice box."
Frederick reached out. "Bring it here."
The housekeeper handed it to him.
Frederick, holding a cigarette in one hand, touched the box with the other.
He could tell it was packed separately on purpose, so it must be Charlotte's treasure.
Maybe it was jewelry worth millions.
Frederick opened it carelessly, but to his surprise, it was just an old diary and a small voice recorder.
He frowned; such things were treasures to Charlotte.
Gently opening it, Frederick's blood froze; it was his handwriting, expressing his love and longing for Charlotte.
[I love Charlotte the most!]
[She likes to play the piano.]
[Every day, I will give her roses.]
[Our first child is named Lola, whom Charlotte exchanged her life for! Lola is not in good health. She has a bleeding disorder, and a rare blood type.]
[Charlotte is pregnant again. It's now over six weeks! I need to be gentle with her.]
[Charlotte can't drive.]
[When Charlotte hugs me, it means she wants me to kiss her. No matter how important the matter is, I gotta drop it and give her a kiss. She's still a girl, yet she's the mother of my two kids.]
Frederick's throat tightened as he quickly flipped through the pages.
The whole book was filled with it.
Frederick's handsome face turned pale. He turned on the voice recorder, and his voice slowly filled the bedroom where Charlotte once lived.
"Charlotte, when you hear this, I might not be by your side anymore. You must be crying, right? Silly girl, don't cry! At least we're still legally married and have two kids. The one in your belly is a boy; let's name him Kingsley. Charlotte, promise me; find me. No matter what, don't give up! I love you; I can't bear to live the rest of my life without you! No matter how wild my past was, it can't compare to what I felt with you!"
"Charlotte, I love you!"
"Charlotte, be brave for me one more time, okay?"
Frederick felt a bit dazed.
He really had loved Charlotte that much!
He told Charlotte not to give up, but he easily divorced her.
Frederick dialed Charlotte's number; he wanted to ask her.
Charlotte didn't answer his call.
Frederick then called Jared. Jared, leaning against the car and smoking, casually said, "Charlotte's at the cemetery. Looks like she's digging something up."
Frederick grabbed his car keys, hurried downstairs, and jumped into the car. As he touched the steering wheel, he felt his heart trembling. He didn't know what Charlotte was doing at the cemetery, but he had a gut feeling it was something big.
He also didn't know what he wanted after reading the diary!
Right now, he just wanted to stop her! The Hawkins family cemetery was quiet and cold.
The roses Frederick planted for Charlotte hadn't bloomed yet.
Charlotte, wearing a white coat, stood quietly in front of the stone wall, mourning her past love.
[Frederick & Charlotte.]
After a long time, she said softly, "Frederick, I'm sorry. I have to break my promise."
She gave up; she couldn't wait any longer.
But she always remembered their past love. Maybe the love in her memory was the most beautiful and the one worth holding onto, rather than trying to change a man who didn't love her.
A faint smile appeared on Charlotte's lips.
'Frederick, I'm back. From now on, I'll only stay with you; there'll be no one else between us!'
She moved the stone and took out the diamond ring inside. After years of slumber, the diamond ring was still as dazzling as before.
Tears welled up in Charlotte's eyes.
She gently put the diamond ring on her slender ring finger.
At the cemetery gate, Frederick parked the car and jumped out.
From a distance, he saw Charlotte.
He saw her gently put a diamond ring on her finger. She kissed the ring with tears in her eyes, like some kind of ritual, like some kind of confession!
"Charlotte!" Frederick's face was pale as he called her name.
In the morning light, Charlotte slowly turned her head and looked at him quietly.
In the breeze, she was very beautiful,
But she no longer belonged to him.
They were already divorced.
