Chapter 470 Stop Dreaming!
Chloe pushed the door open, and there was Andrew, deep in conversation on the phone.
He was probably talking to some bigwigs at the company, looking all serious. He said a few more things and then hung up.
When he saw Chloe at the door with the kids, his face softened a bit.
"Come here," he said gently.
Little Natalie, all innocent and wobbly, tried to climb onto the hospital bed with her chubby legs but couldn't make it. Andrew scooped her up and gave her a kiss.
Gavin, being the older and wiser one, had a better grasp of what was going on.
He walked in, called out "Daddy," and then went quiet.
Andrew patted him on the back. "What's up, buddy?"
Gavin looked at him and said, "You're a grown-up. Can you take care of yourself and not make Mom worry?"
Andrew chuckled, feeling a warm glow inside.
"Are you worried about me?" he asked softly.
Gavin's face turned red, and he stubbornly replied, "I'm not worried about you!"
Andrew knew what was going on in his head and didn't push it. He just ruffled his hair and said, "Had breakfast yet? Let Nathan take you to grab something. The snacks here are just as good as at home."
Natalie didn't want to leave. She clung to her dad, her little face pressed against his stomach.
But Gavin picked her up, saying gruffly, "Let's go."
Natalie, with tears in her eyes, was carried away by Gavin.
The room got quiet, and a nurse came in to set up an IV for Andrew. She was quick and efficient.
Chloe walked over and gently lifted his hand, revealing a slender palm with needle marks.
"Does it hurt?" she asked softly.
Andrew leaned back, looking up at her. After a moment, he said in a low voice, "Do you feel sorry for me?"
Chloe nodded and sat by the bed, slowly wrapping her arms around him.
His body felt warm as usual, but she knew he had a rough night. Andrew's health was never great, and if he hadn't been so vigilant, who knows what could've happened.
Feeling her slight trembling, Andrew softly said, "I'm fine now, Chloe. Don't cry."
Chloe rested her face on his shoulder. Andrew held her, silently comforting her.
After a long while, she whispered, "Andrew, when I heard the news, I wasn't scared of you being with someone else. I was scared something would happen to you."
Her voice was full of vulnerability.
Andrew felt a pang of sadness hearing her words.
He stroked her hair gently and said, "I won't be with anyone else. There's nothing to worry about."
She didn't say anything more. She just held him, the man she loved deeply.
She looked up like she wanted to say something, but Andrew stopped her, pressing his forehead against hers. "Some things should be handled by a man."
"What things?" Her voice trembled.
Andrew chuckled and gave her nose a playful pinch. So contradictory! She knew exactly what was up.
Perhaps because the residual fear had drained him completely, or maybe because he was just wiped out from waiting for her all night, Andrew relaxed and drifted off to sleep. His head rested on her soft belly, and he was out like a light.
Chloe didn't move. She leaned against the headboard, letting Andrew rest on her.
She looked at him with so much love. Even at his age, he was still so handsome. No wonder other women were interested.
If he had saggy skin, girls like Nina wouldn't even give him a second glance!
Chloe gave him a playful bite. Just then, Nathan came back with the kids and opened the door to see this scene.
Nathan, ever the thick-skinned one, just grinned.
Gavin's little face turned red, but he looked happy.
Chloe felt a bit embarrassed. She gently laid Andrew down and then tucked Natalie under the covers.
Natalie hugged Andrew, sighed softly, and stayed put like a good girl.
Nathan signaled Chloe to talk outside. They stepped out, and Chloe softly said, "Nathan, let me handle Nina."
Nathan was ready for this. He said in a low voice, "Andrew said not to let you get involved in anything dirty!"
He chose his words carefully, "Let Andrew handle it!"
Chloe didn't push it and nodded.
Nathan's face darkened a bit, "We let her off the hook before, and she didn't appreciate it. Now she pulls this stunt. She has to pay."
Chloe watched him. It was the first time she saw Nathan look so grim. From his look, she finally understood the trials and tribulations Andrew had faced before.
Nathan quickly changed his expression and started chatting about everyday stuff, "There's a mole in the house! Andrew thinks we should keep it from Adeline. That person has been with her for decades, and he's afraid telling her would break her heart."
Chloe nodded.
After chatting, Nathan hurried off to handle things.
Four bodyguards were added at the door of the hospital room.
People came and went to visit, but all were stopped.
Andrew didn't wake up until the afternoon.
When he opened his eyes, he felt something warm in his arms and saw Natalie's little face.
Natalie looked at him with big eyes.
Seeing Andrew awake, she babbled, "Eat!"
Andrew grabbed his phone and saw it was two o'clock.
Natalie hadn't eaten yet?
He sat up, and Gavin, sitting by the bed, looked at him, "Natalie has been awake for a while!"
Andrew scolded with a smile, "Gavin. Why didn't you feed her first?"
Feeling better, he got up and took Natalie to the bathroom. After she did her business, Andrew dressed her in her little pants and kissed her.
Chloe had set the food.
Andrew was indeed hungry. He sat down and took a couple of bites, then suddenly asked, "Is everything okay with your crew?"
Chloe lightly brushed her hair, "The crew is replacing the third female lead, so it's on hold."
Andrew didn't ask further. They both knew Nina had to be dealt with.
Chloe took a few bites and softly said, "After this film, I won't act anymore."
Andrew looked at her.
Even with the kids around, Chloe said it, "I want to live with you, not be apart anymore."
Andrew didn't say anything. He just gently squeezed her hand under the table. "Eat up! You look thinner."
Chloe and the kids ate quietly. Andrew smiled, "From now on, I'll take care of the family. You can do whatever you want."
Chloe softly responded with a "hmm."
Gavin took a big bite of his food, thinking, 'Daddy seems very authoritative, and Mommy really listens to him!'
Andrew stayed in the hospital for three days.
During those three days, under Nathan's arrangement, Chloe met with Nina.
In the dim police station, the iron bars were rusty, and only a sliver of sunlight came through the window, making the space feel oppressive and cramped.
Chloe wore a pink dress, the only bright spot in the gloomy space.
Even in her thirties, she was still beautiful.
When Nina came out, she looked at Chloe with extreme jealousy.
As she sat down, the silver handcuffs made a crisp sound, and Chloe watched quietly.
Nina slightly raised her chin and sneered, "If I had succeeded that night, we wouldn't be meeting here! I would be Mrs. Devereux, and you would be the woman Andrew discarded."
Chloe smiled faintly. She looked at Nina's resentful eyes and said, "Life doesn't have 'ifs.' Miss Watson, you were wrong from the start. Even if you had succeeded that night and even got pregnant, Andrew still wouldn't marry you."
Nina's eyes filled with tears; she didn't believe it.
Chloe's smile grew fainter, "You messed around with him, using such despicable means, yet you don't even know what kind of man he is. You're truly pathetic!"
Nina sneered, "Stop pretending! Chloe, I'm in here now, and I've been kicked out of the crew, but so what? I'm still young, and I still have a chance!"
"You won't have another chance!" Chloe said softly, "I've seen Andrew in his prime. If you had seen him then, you wouldn't have dared to provoke him!"
Nina didn't believe it. "Chloe, you just want me to give up! You keep saying I'm not worthy of him, but are you? You've had two kids for him, but what else? How much will you sacrifice? I'm willing to give him everything."
Chloe listened quietly.
Nina slammed the table forcefully, and the person next to her, seeing this, held her down.
Nina panted, "You don't love him at all. You haven't even cooked a meal for him! But I can, I can take care of him."
Chloe coldly laughed, "You think taking care of him means feeding him that kind of food? Andrew eats home-cooked meals because of his bad stomach. And you think cooking will win his heart? Stop dreaming!"
Nina was just like Brenda back in the day, using excuses to cover up her ambition. They didn't deserve any sympathy.
Chloe got up and walked out. Behind her, Nina kept cursing.
When Chloe stepped outside, a black car was parked at the door, and Nathan was smoking by the car.
Seeing Chloe coming, he stepped forward, "Finished talking?"
Chloe nodded. She softly flipped through a stack of documents, which were Nina's. After a moment, she said, "Her troubled childhood led to her current resentment. Nathan, handle it as you see fit. Don't let her affect our future lives."
Nathan nodded. He made a phone call, and that night Nina was released.
Nathan looked at Chloe again.
Her bright face was calm and serene.
He thought to himself, 'Chloe may appear innocent, but she is actually even more decisive than Charlotte.'
Nathan collected his thoughts. He invited Chloe into the car, and on the way, Chloe didn't say a word.
Clearly, she wasn't in a good mood.
Fortunately, when they arrived at the hospital, Frederick was there.
When they opened the door, he was talking to Andrew, both looking a bit serious. Hearing the door open, they turned to look.
Frederick smiled faintly, "Scared?"
Chloe softly called out "Frederick" and walked over to ask, "Why are you here?"
The siblings had a good relationship, and she often relied on him.
Frederick adjusted his shirt collar and said, "I was on a business trip nearby, so I came to check on you!"
He pointed to Natalie and Gavin, "I'll take these two kids with me!"
Chloe was reluctant, but thinking about Andrew, it was better to take the kids away.
Besides, with Natalie being so young, she didn't want her to stay in the hospital all the time.
Frederick left without eating.
Chloe saw him and the kids off. At the car downstairs, Frederick smoothed Chloe's hair and said, "Actually, Charlotte was worried and asked me to come check. After talking with Andrew, it seems he doesn't need help! Charlotte just worries too much."
Chloe gave him a gentle hug. She softly said, "Thank you, Frederick."
Frederick patted her head and, after some thought, said, "Chloe, no matter what happens, I'll always be here."
After saying that, he turned and got into the car.
Chloe watched silently, thinking that if it weren't for Andrew, she could live with Frederick and Charlotte, and that would be pretty good too!
Back in the hospital room, Andrew wasn't resting; he was flipping through a magazine.
Nathan was very busy, taking calls one after another.
When Chloe came in, Nathan went out. Andrew patted the spot next to him, signaling her to come over.
Chloe walked over, and Andrew softly asked her, "Did you go see Nina?"
Chloe nodded. She leaned on his shoulder, "I wanted to hear her thoughts."
Andrew's hand stroked her slender waist, and he smiled faintly, "You silly girl."
Chloe was not happy.
She exclaimed, "Why didn't you tell Frederick to leave Natalie and Gavin here? You didn't even dare to say a word!"
Andrew's gaze deepened.
After a moment, he said in a low voice, "I wanted to spend time alone with you."
