Chapter 378 I Owe Them Too Much (Part 1)

Frederick gave a nod.

He cracked a small smile.

Andrew felt a twinge of jealousy and took a sip of his coffee to hide it.

Frederick casually flipped through a magazine and said, "If you really care about Chloe and are willing to drop everything for her, then the moment is almost here; the project's almost wrapped up, no worries left."

Andrew took that to heart.

Just then, Gavin came downstairs, saw Andrew still there, and snuggled into his arms, calling him "Daddy" in his soft little voice.

Andrew ruffled his son's hair.

Gavin looked up at him with big, hopeful eyes. "When the snow gets heavier, will you build a snowman with me?"

Andrew didn't say anything.

He lifted his son onto his lap and pulled a candy out of his pocket for Gavin.

Gavin popped the candy into his mouth and kept looking at him expectantly.

Andrew really wanted to stay and make Gavin happy. But he had to bounce; there was a ton of work waiting for him.

He hesitated for a moment.

Frederick noticed and took Gavin from him, patting him gently. "Go upstairs and play with Johnny first. I gotta talk to your dad."

Gavin's little face fell with disappointment.

But he obediently went upstairs.

Andrew felt like crap.

Gavin was already five, but as a dad, he hadn't spent much time with him, which was a major fail on his part.

He couldn't even promise to have a snowball fight with him.

Frederick saw his expression and knew he was feeling down.

He couldn't step in Andrew and Chloe's relationship, as it was mutual affection.

He always hoped Chloe could get what she wanted, so he personally poured Andrew a cup of coffee and asked thoughtfully, "What are your plans after this project ends?"

Andrew held the cup and looked at the light snow falling outside.

He got what Frederick was hinting at.

He spoke softly, "The Devereux family has some businesses that aren't doing well. I want to pick them up and maybe make something out of it."

Frederick didn't say anything more.

Andrew had a flight at four in the afternoon.

But he left at two, and Frederick knew why.

Andrew hugged his son and left in the light snow. When he got into the car, Nathan couldn't help but ask, "It's not time yet; why are you leaving?"

Andrew took off his leather gloves and looked ahead with his long, narrow eyes.

"I'm heading to the studio. And stop halfway; I want to grab a cup of cider."

Nathan grinned.

Andrew was going to see Chloe, so he teased, "She'll definitely be stoked to see you."

Andrew felt a wave of emotion hit him.

After a beat, he muttered, "I owe her and our son too much."

Nathan wanted to say something comforting but held back and just sighed.

It was a freezing winter day with light snow falling.

The studio had no heating. Chloe was shooting a shampoo commercial, wearing a summer dress. After each take, her assistant would rush to wrap her in a blanket.

She was shivering but still laser-focused on reviewing the photos.

Andrew stood at the door, watching her.

She had once said that even though her job seemed small, it was her livelihood, so he didn't want to interrupt her even though he felt bad for her.

But Chloe spotted him.

Everyone around noticed the refined, elegant man too.

The director recognized Andrew. He didn't make a big deal out of it and quietly asked Chloe, "Is he here for you?"

Chloe locked eyes with Andrew.

Nathan, always quick on his feet, immediately handed out bags of cider to everyone and said with a grin, "Mr. Devereux was just passing by and decided to visit Miss Hawkins. It's cold, so enjoy some hot drinks."

He handed the hottest cup to Chloe.

Chloe held the cider and walked up to Andrew.

Andrew looked at her intently.

He took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders, gently adjusting it. "You should wear more clothes."

Chloe, a bit surprised, asked softly, "Did you come here just to see me?"

Andrew glanced around and then asked back, "Did I come here just to bring them cider?"

Chloe didn't say anything.

She took a sip of the cider, feeling warm inside.

"Are you not mad at me for talking to you like that?"

Andrew's blue eyes locked onto hers for a long moment before he smiled. "You're much younger than me; I won't get mad!"

He finally patted her head.

The gesture was tender, like a husband about to leave.

Chloe, feeling the gentle touch, didn't want to spoil the moment.

Andrew lowered his voice. "Finish up and go home early! Gavin wants to build a snowman. Keep an eye on him; he gets fevers easily. And take care of yourself too. Adeline keeps saying she wants to take you to Copenhagen for some health treatments."

Chloe was taken aback.

Just then, they were ready to start shooting again.

Chloe took off the coat and handed it back to him.

Andrew didn't take it.

He said softly, "Wear it during breaks! For New Year's, I'll take you and Gavin to Copenhegan, okay?"
