Chapter 711 Johnny, What Are You Waiting for?
In the swanky car, the distinguished man looked drop-dead gorgeous while smoking, even though he was as cold as ice towards her.
Shirley's feelings for Johnny weren't just about chasing power; she genuinely admired him as a man. She knew this all too well.
Gray smoke slowly rose, creating a hazy barrier between them. Johnny glanced at Shirley. She looked like a mess, her wet dress clinging to her curvy body. Johnny, being a seasoned man, saw right through her little act.
Under his gaze, Shirley's body trembled slightly.
Her voice was hoarse, "Mr. Flores, I need your help. Maybe your wife found out I was around, and now I'm in a tough spot. The TV station has cut off all my work! My family background is not good, and my parents worked hard to get me through college. I beg you... please ask Mrs. Flores to show some mercy."
She said, tears welling up in her eyes, looking pitiful and moving.
Johnny's blue eyes were deep, and he kept smoking leisurely. His gaze made Shirley weak in the knees.
After a while, Johnny smiled lightly, "You think it's Mrs. Flores who's out to get you, but why don't you go to her instead of coming to me?"
Shirley was stumped.
Honestly, a woman's clever tricks were like a thin veil to a man, and most men who fell for it wouldn't tear it apart. She didn't expect Johnny to be so blunt.
She was so embarrassed that her face turned red, feeling awkward.
But unexpectedly, Johnny leaned over and opened the car door on the other side, saying indifferently, "Get in the car."
Shirley was stunned again.
She couldn't believe what she heard, and couldn't believe that Johnny wasn't shutting her out anymore. She was sure that Johnny knew her intentions, but he still let her get in the car... Did this mean he accepted her pursuit?
Shirley got into the car with trembling legs.
Sitting in the luxurious black car, next to the man she admired, she looked at the white carpet, breathing in the inviting scent of leather, and the faint perfume on the man beside her. Money and power, combined, were the ultimate turn-on.
She desired this man, wanting to possess him.
"Mr. Flores?" Shirley asked in a trembling voice, "Where are we going?"
Johnny ignored her. He took out his phone and dialed a number, giving a brief instruction to the person on the other end, "Come downstairs."
After hanging up, he still didn't pay any attention to Shirley. He turned sideways, holding a cigarette between his long fingers, such a stunning sight.
Shirley didn't dare to disturb him further and watched him obsessively. She didn't understand why someone like Johnny seemed so insignificant to Lola.
Lola was just relying on her family background!
About three minutes later, Felicity came down by elevator. She thought Johnny had something urgent, but when the car window rolled down, she saw an unexpected person... Shirley!
Johnny must be out of his mind, right?
He let such an ambitious woman get in the car. What was he trying to do? Clearly, Lola had already proposed a divorce. If he didn't want to divorce, shouldn't he show an attitude of staying away from this woman? Why was he still tangled up with her?
Could it be that Johnny really liked her?
Felicity was stunned for a while and softly called, "Mr. Flores?"
Johnny instructed the driver, "Go! Take Ms. Wells home."
Shirley was flattered and a little expectant, softly giving her address... The driver, holding back his anger, stepped on the gas without a word.
Felicity sat in the front passenger seat, not saying a word. She didn't know what to say!
It started raining again outside, and a heavy silence settled in the car... Shirley kept trembling. After a long time, she was so cold that she couldn't stand it and yearned for some warmth, so she leaned towards Johnny.
Johnny turned his head to look at her. His deep eyes showed no emotion, and Shirley didn't dare to overstep.
About half an hour later, the car stopped downstairs at Shirley's dwelling. The driver said in a bad tone, "We're here!"
Inside the dim car, the air was charged with an unspoken tension.
Shirley was a very smart woman. She knew her advantages were nothing more than being young, attractive, and bringing a sense of novelty. She mustered up the courage to say, "Mr. Flores, would you like to come up to my place for a bit?"
From start to finish, Johnny kept his cool, gentlemanly vibe.
But ditching work to drop off a young, beautiful woman wasn't exactly proper. He looked down, patted his pants calmly, and said, "No need!"
Shirley felt a pang of disappointment. She thought Johnny, not getting any warmth at home, had softened his attitude today to hook up with her. A guy like him didn't need to worry about the cost of cheating, right?
Just when she was feeling a bit embarrassed, Johnny spoke again.
He turned to look at Shirley, "Can you speak Torontow?"
Shirley quickly replied, "I can handle basic conversations."
Johnny quietly observed her for a few seconds, then lit a cigarette. The smoke swirling inside the car was really suffocating, but no one dared to speak, fearing to upset him.
After a quick smoke break, Johnny said lightly, "I have a social event tomorrow night with Torontow clients. Prepare to accompany me! ... Felicity, help Ms. Wells get the right dress and jewelry."
Shirley was overjoyed. "Thank you for giving me the opportunity."
Felicity, sitting in the front, listened to her boss's instructions with a trembling heart. She had known Johnny for many years and understood his temperament better than anyone. Johnny might not care much about Shirley, not even willing to have an affair, but it was clear he was now supporting Shirley.
Shirley had been suppressed recently, but once she appeared with Johnny, people would know she was Johnny's lover. Shirley would become highly sought after.
What about Lola? Did Johnny consider her feelings? Or was he just trying to provoke her... No, Felicity felt Johnny wasn't just trying to provoke Lola. He was weary in his marriage and wanted some fun. Shirley was his fun because Shirley was the person Lola cared about the most.
Felicity was silent for a while, then spoke, "Mr. Flores, this is difficult for me."
Johnny lowered the car window and flicked the ash off his cigarette. He said indifferently, "If Lola asks you, just tell her the truth."
Felicity smiled bitterly, "Alright! I can do this for you, but you don't regret it."
Though she was a secretary, she was also a confidant and a loyal subordinate, having the right to have a little tiff with Johnny, with a pretty cold expression. Shirley originally wanted to mock her a bit, but now didn't dare to make a move.
She could realize that Johnny valued this secretary named Felicity.
Felicity, in her 30s and looking great.
Shirley regarded her as a rival.
With Johnny's support, Shirley's career took off.
In a month, she landed two major hosting gigs for events and secured two advertising deals... Her worth significantly increased. She moved from a small apartment to a mansion worth $5 million.
With fame came more friends. When friends from the industry came to congratulate her,
Shirley received a gift that was a red coral from Johnny, very precious, which Shirley placed at the entrance of her home.
It was said that Johnny and Shirley drank champagne that night.
Their rumors spread widely, but never made it to the newspapers or mainstream media, only circulating among people in the industry, as no one dared to offend Johnny.
Lola was not completely unaware.
Johnny still hadn't agreed to a divorce, but he rarely came home. Lola was waiting for him to come clean with her.
She thought a man with a woman outside wouldn't last long, as the woman would eventually pressure him to make it official. They always wanted legitimacy.
At night, after taking a bath, she stood on the balcony in a white bathrobe. The night breeze gently lifted her hair.
It was at this time that Johnny came back. He got out of the black car and looked up to see Lola, who stood in the night breeze, more beautiful than the moonlight, with a kind of lonely and vulnerability.
Johnny had one foot out of the car, holding onto the door with one hand.
He looked at her almost greedily, his Adam's apple moving involuntarily up and down. In his mind, the image of the last time he forced himself on Lola appeared, her face full of tears under him, hoarsely begging him to stop at the end.
Johnny's hand on the car door gripped tightly.
Lola opened her eyes. She saw Johnny, and their eyes connected. They hadn't seen each other in over two weeks. Lola's lips moved, but then she saw someone else get out of the car. It was Shirley.
Johnny was dressed in a sharp black suit, while Shirley was in white, making them look like a striking pair.
Lola quietly watched them.
Johnny kept his eyes on her, while Shirley stayed by his side, looking charming. After a while, Johnny said a few words to Shirley and then went inside.
Shirley smiled at Lola, carrying herself like a champion.
Lola looked at her for a few seconds, then turned and left the balcony. She met Johnny on the staircase, under the crystal chandelier.
She looked down at Johnny and said calmly, "Angelina and Austin are asleep! If you want to come back to see them next time, it's best not to invite your lover back here!"
Johnny looked at her calm face and sneered, "What are you talking about? Ms. Wells is just a companion I brought for social events."
He clearly didn't want to talk to her. He went upstairs to check on the kids, grabbed a document, and left in a hurry. When he left, Lola was neither on the staircase nor in the hall.
Johnny quickly went downstairs but paused at the last step. He looked up, but no one was around.
When he got back in the car, Shirley leaned over and whispered, "She didn't argue with you, did she? Mr. Flores, I can explain... Nothing happened between us, right?"
Johnny ignored her. He tossed the document aside, lit a cigarette, and turned his head to the other side to smoke quietly.
His coldness made Shirley uncomfortable, but she didn't dare to get angry at him because everything she had now was given by Johnny—resources, mansion... She liked the life of luxury and being admired. She didn't want to go back to the past, but she wasn't satisfied. She wanted more; she wanted to become Johnny's wife!
But the prerequisite was that Johnny spent the night at her place.
She couldn't figure out Johnny's thoughts. He clearly supported her and gave her everything, but he didn't spend the night at her place, nor did he have a sexual relationship with her... Occasionally, he would let her lean on his shoulder, and he would thoughtfully touch her face, but when she got emotional, he would push her away.
Shirley didn't know what he was waiting for.
Tonight, Johnny had been drinking and was clearly in a bad mood, so when the car stopped, she made her move and softly said, "You've had too much to drink, and there's no one to take care of you at the hotel. Why don't you come to my place? I'll make you some hangover soup, and give you a shoulder massage."
She thought Johnny would refuse, but to her surprise, he agreed.
They stepped inside, under the bright lights.
Like a long-burning flame, they stumbled and kissed passionately, not even making it to the sofa, kissing right at the door.
Shirley wrapped her arms around Johnny's neck, kissing him wildly.
Her slender fingers unbuckled Johnny's belt, ready to go further, then her hand was stopped. She looked up into a pair of clear eyes, filled with an unexpected indifference.
Johnny said calmly, "Forget it!"
He opened the door to leave, but Shirley hugged him from behind, whispering seductively, "Am I not young and beautiful enough, or is my fit not good enough? Johnny, hug me, please? I want you to hug me!"
That "Johnny" made his eyes well up with tears.
He turned to look at Shirley.
Shirley, with red eyes, said, "I know you love her, but... I really don't want to define the relationship. I won't destroy your family. I just want one night of pleasure."
Johnny certainly didn't believe her.
But a man in despair always liked obedient women. He didn't like Shirley but liked her service. So he said indifferently, "Make me a cup of hangover soup and give me a shoulder massage."
Shirley was a bit disappointed, but then she thought, he was staying after all. She still had a chance.
Late at night, Johnny was unwilling to go back to the hotel and made do on the sofa for the night. Early the next morning, there was an emergency at the company, and he left, leaving his coat at Shirley's place.
In the car, he opened his phone to see if there were any messages from Lola. After what happened last night, surely she had some kind of reaction!
But in his Facebook chat with Lola, there was nothing. Lola didn't even give him a glance.
Johnny looked at it for a long time, then laughed at himself.
Wise Counsel Law Firm.
Lola sat behind her desk, quietly reading a case file. Her phone rang, and it was Amara calling to invite her to lunch.
After hanging up, Lola played with her phone, guessing that Amara wanted to talk about something.
She smiled bitterly. It seemed Johnny and Shirley's affair had become widely known! Although she was extremely disgusted, she thought she should have a good talk with Johnny. Maybe if he found a woman he liked, he would make a decision soon.
Lola packed up her things and went to the appointment.
In the outer office, employees said goodbye to her, and their eyes were filled with sympathy.
Lola thought self-deprecatingly, 'Is this the result of being childhood sweethearts? I had loved Johnny so much before, but I never thought it would end so disgracefully. Love is just a joke!'
Amara had chosen a lounge.
When Lola arrived, Amara was already there and pulled out a chair for her, "Lola, what would you like to drink?"
Lola tossed her long hair. "A cocktail, please."
Amara ordered for her and also got a dessert. When she turned back, she saw Lola lighting a slim cigarette.
Amara was stunned.
Lola usually didn't smoke, but she wanted one now. She took a puff, leaned back, and exhaled the smoke gently. Her eyes, looking at Amara, had a hint of seductive charm. Amara thought Johnny must be blind; Lola was much more attractive than Shirley.
Knowing what she was thinking, Lola smiled, "We've been talking about divorce for a while."
She was straightforward.
Amara didn't beat around the bush either. She said directly, "Kingsley heard some rumors. He wanted to confront Johnny himself, but I thought if they clashed, they would definitely fight. So I wanted to ask... Is it true that Johnny is keeping a woman outside?"
Lola's slender fingers trembled slightly.
After a moment, she lowered her eyes, took a few deep puffs of the cigarette, and said, "It's probably true... Maybe he's trying to force me to comply, or maybe he's really found some fun. Who knows!"
She added, "Amara, no matter what his mindset is, I can't tolerate it."
Amara was silent for a while, then drank with her, "I'll ask Kingsley to come pick you up. It's okay if you get drunk."
Lola smiled faintly. In the end, she didn't get drunk. There was already one unclear person in their marriage; there was no need to add another. She only had a light drink and called for a designated driver when she left.
In the car, she called Johnny's secretary.
"Felicity, could you send me Mr. Flores's schedule for the past two months? ... If it's too much trouble, forget it."
"Alright!" On the other end, Felicity seemed to have been waiting for her call and agreed immediately.
A moment later, Johnny's schedule was sent to Lola's email. She opened it and saw that in the past 60 days, at least half of the events were social engagements, and Shirley attended all of them with him.
July 3rd, Shirley.
July 5th, Shirley.
July 8th, Shirley, all Shirley!
Lola put down her phone and sat in the car, lost in thought. The designated driver, overhearing the conversation, kindly said, "If men make a mistake, his wife should really hold him accountable. If he gets away with it, he's just lucky."
Lola smiled faintly.
When she got home, unexpectedly, the children had been taken by Frederick and Charlotte. The maid said, "It was Mr. Flores's idea. He called earlier, and they left less than 10 minutes ago."
Lola slowly processed this, placed her briefcase on the sofa, and walked to the wine cabinet to take out a bottle of red wine.
The maid, seeing her, thoughtfully said, "I'll make you something to eat. Consuming alcohol without eating can be damaging for you."
Lola smiled gently, "Thank you, Cindy."
Suddenly, Cindy felt a lump in her throat and was on the verge of tears. She thought, 'how could Mr. Flores not cherish someone as good as Mrs. Flores? We had all seen it last time; He brought the woman from outside back. Mrs. Flores had been unhappy ever since.'
But she only dared to think about it and didn't say anything.
Half an hour later, Lola dined alone, pouring herself a glass of red wine.
A sound of a car echoed outside. She lowered her eyes and smiled faintly, knowing Johnny had returned. Sure enough, footsteps were heard in the hallway a moment later.
